anyone here play Magic: the Gathering or Yugioh??
« on: May 10, 2006, 04:44:08 pm »
just curious if anyone played any type of trading card games such as these.  feel free to post any decklists or card game related stuff.  if this thread starts getting popular enough, i may share some of my own decklists.

and NO, this is NOT a thread to discuss the Yugioh ANIME, because it SUCKS, and the actual card game is MUCH DIFFERENT (just my personal opinion, so don't flame me if you DO like the series).  also, if there are any other anime-related card games you want to talk about, i'd appreciate it if no one bashes each other for playing a card game related to an anime series that a lot of people hate (for example, i think Inuyasha has a card game out now, and i know that most people either love or hate Inuyasha, so don't make fun of someone simply if someone enjoys playing the card game based off of Inuyasha).  just wanted to clear that up and avoid any unneccessary posting.

btw, this is the first thread i've started on this forum, so bear with my seemingly strict introductions... i just want to avoid some conflicts, that's all.  >_<;

ok... start posting, dammit!...if you're interested... >=P

I used to play Magic all the time about 10 years ago, back when Revised and 4th were the basic sets (and Ice Age if you count that as a basic set and not an expansion)
Then WotC started blowing up with all the expansions and ruined it for everyone.

My brother and I still whip out our decks every so often to play against each other. Our decks havent changed much in 7 or 8 years I imagine though sometimes we mix it up to try something new - like the all common deck or the no more than 1 of any non-land card deck.  Each of us has three decks we usually play, and we select them randomly before a match so we  don't know which ones we or our opponent will have until we square off.
The weakest of his is a green-red deck that mostly tries to build up a big fireball or disintegrate or lightning bolt you to death.  His middle strength deck is all black discard deck.  His strongest deck is mostly blue-white with emphasis on counterspelling and slight of minding things like circles of protection to make him or his creatures immune to whatever color I'm playing.
The weakest of mine is almost entirely artifacts, just to bust up his slight of mind deck.  Better is all green, built not for speed but for longevity (all hail Llurgoyf in long games).  My strongest is probably my white deck, with Serra Angels and Veteran Bodyguards backed by cards to increase stats like blessing, castle and angelic voices and yet other cards to force the opponent to swap defending or attacking creatures like General Jarkeld.  I get Jarkeld out with a pumped up Angel or two and its usually a win for me.

you'll have to join my board to see it i guess, since it took me three posts to get up

yes, it's that big

what else do you call a deck that size, that can atually win?

*note* the deck was built for group brawls, not one on one dueling

I play Magic, but it's been awhile since me and my friends played it,my buddys are busy right now,we're getting ready for a wedding(my best friend is getting hitched on the 20th),plus they've introduced me to the Inuyasha game, which is very fun.

I used to play Yugioh, and no offense to any Yugi players, but alot of us thought the game got too complicated with the rules, and various cards kept going on the banned list, off, then on again.Inuyasha's ruels are much easier to work with, and Magic's aren't too bad.

I've also got a bunch of the cards from Megaman NT Warrior.I never got to play the game with anyone, likewise TMNT,but i have all my NT Warrior and TMNT cards in a collector's binder.I also have alot of the Sailor Moon CCG cards in a collector's binder, also. It's a shame the game got cancelled before they could make cards of Professor Tomoe and the Death-Busters from Sailor Moon S.

I play Magic the Gathering, I resell Yugi-Oh cards, and I play the original Star Wars CCG, of which I have about 700 something cards.

Ya'll want any Yugi Oh cards? I probably have them.

I used to play Magic: The Gathering all of the time in high school.

Nowadays I just want to get rid of my collection.

Well specifics aside, PM me with a list of cards you are interested in, and I'll cut you a good deal.
I have quite a few that people appear to be after.

right now I'm selling off

-The Creator : Limited Edition
- Panther Warrior: Limited Edition
and
Elemental Hero Wildedge: 1st Edition

Among hundreds of other things I get through various wholesale sources which I'm not telling you.

Hit me up with a PM and I'll see if I have your cards.

yeah, thanks again, heirophant.  i kinda have an idea for my own nanako sig (as well as a tifa avatar), but i doubt my computer could handle the stuff i'd need to do it.  =/  btw, cute avatar there, what's it from??

all right, i'm gonna post my decks as they are now.  i haven't played in a while, so they're probably a little un-updated.  lemme know what you guys think:

YUGIOH TRADITIONAL FORMAT CHAOS DECK

  • black luster soldier - envoy of the beginning
  • chaos emperor dragon - envoy of the end
  • chaos sorceror
  • guardian angel joan
  • jinzo
  • dark ruler ha des
  • d.d. warrior lady
  • d.d. assailant
  • d.d. survivor
  • d.d. guide
  • d.d. scout plane
  • banisher of the light x 2
  • kycoo the ghost destroyer
  • breaker the magical warrior
  • gren maju da eiza
  • witch of the black forest
  • sangan
  • magical merchant x 2
  • greenkappa
  • night assailant
  • magician of faith
  • cyber jar
  • soul absorption x 3
  • soul release x 3
  • dimension fusion
  • painful choice
  • graceful charity
  • pot of greed
  • monster reborn
  • change of heart
  • mystical space typhoon
  • harpie's feather duster
  • raigeki
  • skull lair x 2
  • return from the different dimension x 2
  • interdimensional matter transporter
  • fiend comedian
  • bottomless trap hole
  • dust tornado
  • sakuretsu armor
  • mirror force
  • ring of destruction

the main focus with this deck is to remove as many cards from play as possible with soul release, skull lair, banisher of the light, etc. while soul absorption is on the field.  if i have all three of them out, i can gain 7500 life points from using just one soul release!  i've got some karma cuts from the new shadow of infinity set recently that i'll probably add, and if i ever get a bazoo the soul eater, i'll probably throw him in too.

YUGIOH ADVANCED FORMAT WATER DECK

  • ocean dragon lord - neo-daedalus
  • levia dragon - daedalus x 2
  • mobius the frost monarch
  • giga gagagigo
  • b.e.s. crystal core
  • catapult turtle
  • amphibious bugroth mk-3 x 3
  • nightmare penguin x 3
  • mother grizzly x 3
  • penguin soldier x 2
  • familiar-possessed - eria x 2
  • mermaid knight
  • maiden of the aqua
  • abyss soldier
  • aqua spirit
  • a legendary ocean x 3
  • terraforming
  • salvage x 2
  • swords of revealing light
  • premature burial
  • brain control
  • snatch steal
  • creature swap
  • lightning vortex
  • dark hole
  • mystical space typhoon
  • giant trunade x 2
  • gravity bind x 2
  • tornado wall x 2
  • spiritual water art - aoi
  • solemn wishes
  • call of the haunted
  • torrential tribute
  • dust tornado x 2

this is a basic yugioh "legendary ocean" deck, personally tweaked to my preferences.  lots of card-bouncing and control, and using gravity bind with a legendary ocean is always mean - try summoning a 2650 attacker with no tributes!  what's ALSO mean is using swords of revealing light, waiting until the 2nd turn of its effect, use a giant trunade, and then play swords again.  then do it again if you have another giant trunade!  opponent = OMFGPISSEDLOL  >XD

MAGIC: THE GATHERING STANDARD(?) FORMAT BLUE-BLACK DECK

  • island x 11
  • swamp x 8
  • dimir aqueduct x 3
  • duskmantle, house of shadow
  • waterveil cavern
  • oboro, palace in the clouds
  • phantom warrior x 2
  • thieving magpie x 3
  • surveilling sprite
  • daring apprentice
  • graceful adept
  • puppeteer
  • archivist
  • spawnbroker
  • hisoka's guard
  • ghost-lit warder
  • drift of phantasms
  • shape stealer
  • kami of the crescent moon
  • thought courier
  • index
  • telepathy
  • freed from the real
  • confiscate
  • boomerang x 3
  • remove soul x 3
  • muddle the mixture
  • mana leak x 3
  • hinder x 2
  • thoughtbind
  • rewind x 2
  • royal assassin
  • dimir house guard
  • wicked akuba
  • stinkweed imp
  • nezumi ronin
  • seizan, perverter of truth
  • vigor mortis
  • strands of undeath
  • dimir guildmage
  • dimir doppelganger
  • circu, dimir lobotomist
  • szadek, lord of secrets
  • perplex
  • dimir signet x 3
  • kraken's eye x 2
  • sensei's diving top

um, yeah.  this is my magic deck.  yes, it is very big (80 cards, to be exact...50 for my yugioh decks) and only decently playable.  there isn't really a theme to this deck, other than the fact that it is blue-black.  i used to run mono-blue, and then ravnica came out, so i started running some of the dimir cards.  anyway, i'll probably end up deconstructing this deck and making a REAL dimir deck, plus an izzet deck, a simic deck, and an azorius deck.  hell, i may even go for a multi-guild deck if i'm crazy enough.  also, i have some of the older cards that one of my friends gave me, so i may just ditch the whole standard format build and make whatever my messed-up mind comes up with, provided i have the right cards - my yugioh collection is significantly larger than my magic collection, since i only started magic just a couple of years back, probably around the time mirrodin came out.

well, there you have it.  let's cuss and discuss.

I'm sorry tetsu, your decks are weak. Your gonna need to run a maximum of 40 cards for almost any deck. Also, your only half playable deck is the chaos deck, which is banned from Advanced format aka the only true format. Water decks don't fly well at tournaments after maybe hte first game or two, and with no draw power like Graceful Charity in the water deck you might not get your hands on some cards you need. But what do I know, I can't really insult fun decks when I play Gearfried the Swordmaster/Blast with Chain, lol.

hmm, my decks are weak, are they??  well, i admit i haven't played a lot recently (mostly casual play anyway), and i haven't had a lot of time to really sit down and tweak them.  as far as the size of my decks, i personally like having slightly larger decks, as i believe they give me more resources and versatility.  if i DID add in some more draw power, as you say (as well as some "tutor" cards, which i already have 3 mother grizzlies and a sangan in my water deck, btw), then the size shouldn't be too much of a problem.  also, as far as my chaos deck goes, more cards in my deck = more cards i can remove from play and gain life from.  also, i wouldn't wanna "deck out" with my 2 magical merchants, even though that DOES kinda seem unlikely.  i AM gonna gonna shrink my magic deck(s) that i plan on making in the future - i already dismantled the one i posted earlier, and i'm trying to get all my stuff sorted.  i doubt i can make exactly what i have in mind, but i'll try to come up with something.

in the meantime, why dontcha post YOUR decklists, ~Shinta?  gotta back yourself up if you're gonna talk smack, lol.  >=D  you said you run gearfried the swordmaster, so you're probably running a "warrior toolbox" deck.  those are pretty good - i had a friend who ran one.

oh yeah - and PLEASE, spell my name correctly next time...  "tetsu" just sounds... weird...  >_<;

WOW, that IS huge.  i think magic: the gathering online has a format called "prismatic" which uses huge decks with all 5 colors - you might check into it.  of course, you'd probably have to spend a shitload of money to buy digital versions of all your cards, though...  >_<;

I can quite garuantee the win-loss ratio on such a monstrosity will never be in favor of the Ws.  Goodness gracious, even when we used to play all color decks, we'd build them around our Gold strengths (Legends or Dark Heart of the Wood)  We wouldnt just throw in every peice of garbage that looked good.
I've seen someone whip some tail with a 4 color deck though - everything but black I beleive.  But it had rare and exotic cards up the wazoo.  Dual lands and birds of paradise for mana wealth, circles of protection and slights of mind for protection, counterspells and control magics, and lightning bolts and disintegrates for direct damage.  It had surpsingly few summons other than those that could serve more than one purpose (such as mana creation).  As long as it wasn't beaten down before it got rolling or Tranquility never made it to the table before being countered it usually won.
