I do not play Money: The Wasting. I DO play Yu-Gi-Oh, though, but my only even remotely decent cards are Thousand Dragon and Chaos Command Magician.

I found out today that people play Magic: The Gathering regularly at a local bookstore in town. Will this motivate me to pick it up again in an effort to crush 30 and 20 something year olds in the dust?

Hells no, I'm going to see if I can sell them my cards.

shoot, i've probably wasted more money on yugioh stuff myself, although i admit i started yugioh LONG before i got into magic.  i remember buying so many packs of the "invasion of chaos" set trying to get a black luster soldier: envoy of the beginning, chaos emperor dragon: envoy of the end, or a dark magician of chaos.  i finally got the first two through trading, though... and now they're banned in advanced format... >_<;

...which reminds me, if i ever get some copies of the promo cards from that one 2006 yugioh game that came out recently, i may try to make an advanced-legal version of my old chaos deck.  here's some links to the cards i'm talking about.  i just wish they made an american version of the last one - they didn't have a translation posted...

hopefully before too long, i'll have some of the decks i've been trying to make ready.  right now, my job and a lack of some specific cards have kinda kept me from making much progress.  =/  here's a list of the decks i'm trying to make:

for magic standard format:

  • green/white/blue deck focused around +1/+1 counters and creature tokens
  • blue/red izzet deck
  • blue/black dimir deck

for yugioh advanced format:

  • a new chaos deck
  • a "tune-up" for my water deck
  • elemental heroes deck
  • insect deck

'sup guys, thought i'd revive this thread, seeing how i've got some news.  i managed to attend the pre-release event of Yugioh's new "Power of the Duelist" expansion a few days ago over in North Little Rock.  i participated in a sealed tournament, and ended up decently well with 2 wins and 2 losses, both of which were very close - had i lasted one more turn on my last duel, i would've decked out my opponent, but luckily for him he managed to bring out the Ultimate Tyranno (3000 ATK 2-tribute monster that must attack ALL of your opponents monsters simultaneously at the beginning of the battle phase) he got from his packs and pretty much owned my face, lol.  as my luck would have it, i pulled no holofoils from my packs, although i DID get some pretty good cards.

i also fixed my old chaos deck for advanced format.  take a look:

MONSTERS x18

  • d.d. warrior lady
  • d.d. assailant
  • d.d. survivor
  • d.d. scout plane
  • banisher of the light x2
  • banisher of the radiance
  • kycoo the ghost destroyer
  • helios - the primordial sun
  • exarion universe
  • breaker the magical warrior
  • gren maju da eiza
  • chaosrider gustaph
  • tsukuyomi
  • spirit reaper
  • sangan
  • magician of faith
  • magical merchant

TRIBUTE/SPECIAL SUMMON MONSTERS x5

  • helios duo megistus
  • golden homunculus
  • guardian angel joan
  • majestic mech - goryu
  • chaos sorcerer

SPELLS x15

  • soul release x3
  • soul absorption x3
  • dimensional fissure
  • nobleman of crossout
  • grand convergence
  • card destruction
  • mystical space typhoon
  • lightning vortex
  • graceful charity
  • swords of revealing light
  • snatch steal

TRAPS x12

  • macro cosmos x2
  • karma cut x2
  • elemental absorber
  • bottomless trap hole
  • interdimensional matter transporter
  • return from the different dimension x2
  • dust tornado
  • mirror force
  • hidden soldiers (the new promo card i got at the pre-release! - when your opponent normal/flip summons a monster, you can special summon a level 4 or lower dark monster from your hand!)

TOTAL: 50

well, there it is - lemme know what you Yugioh duelists think.  i'm wanting to get a bazoo the soul eater, a dark magician of chaos, and a cyber dragon in there eventually.  actually, i pulled a cyber dragon from my very first pack of cybernetic revolution, but i foolishly traded it off because i didn't realize how good it was at the time...  >_<;

i'm still working on my water deck (i'm still needing two hydroggedons, mainly), and i'm hoping to build a machine deck soon.  i have all the VWXYZ fusions now, but i'm needing a bunch of the cyber dragon and ancient gear cards, as well as a few others...

I got out of Yugioh, the rules were wya too confusing for me,however i still have alot of Magic cards, but i need to make a new deck with them,it's been a bit since i played. My friends have introduced me to the Inuyasha game though,it was real easy for me to learn.I also have a ton of cards from the TMNT and Sailor Moon games.

i do agree that Yugioh's rules can get VERY complicated and annoying sometimes, and i also don't like the fact that some cards (such as D.D. Warrior Lady) are so broken that they can be thrown in practically ANY deck.  the numerous erratas that have been made are also quite frustrating (i had to take out the skull lairs in my chaos deck as a result).  i've also recently heard about how a lot of former duelists were complaining that the whole GX thing ruined the game as well.  i enjoy Yugioh, but it still has a LONG way to go before it gets as balanced as Magic is, although some of the new structure decks and expansions are slowly providing support for the various creature types.

if anyone still has any decks they want to post, or wants to brag/complain about their collection, i'm all ears.

Do video games based on card games count?

I could only really get into SNK vs Capcom: Card Fighters Clash on the NGPC.

Even though my old NGPC could only let me do one battle, I still say that one rocked.

eh, i was kinda thinking more along the lines of the actual trading card games, but i guess that's okay.  i was just wanting to know if there was anyone else on this forum who enjoys throwing their money away towards a huge card collection or building a new deck as much as i do, lol...

Well,i still have to make a decent deck,it's been awhile since i last played Magic...though i am getting a bigger collection of Star Wars minis, making armies with them and such. So,i can relate a bit to what you mean,Tetsaru....lol

The only card game-video games i got into were Metal Gear Acid (PSP) and Phantasy Star Online Episode 3- CARD Revolution (Gamecube)

The objection i have to that is when someone purposely makes an entire deck around defeating an opponent in one turn. When i first played Yugioh, someone did that to me on my first game. The person knew it was my first time playing and didn't care anyways. Then he laughed in my face afterwards.

I don't mind the power cards so much if you're playing a game, and it's been a few minutes, you've had a few turns and then it happens. It's when the whole deck is designed to wipe you out in the opening turn that makes it really unfair.

therein was the other problem, the rules for the game and on the cards were way too confusing for me.Even friends of mine who played in tournamnets alot and got in the top 20 said the rules became so confusing most of them quit and went to other card games.

i don't play to win my opponent's cards, if that's what you're saying - i leave that strictly to trading.  i can understand some cards being banned because they caused unfair advantages, but some of those involved in the dreaded 1-turn-KO decks have been banned now as well.  probably the newest legal 1-turn-KO setup that i know of involves 3 proto-cyber dragons, shining angel, inferno reckless summon, power bond, cyber end dragon, limiter removal, and some form of trample, like big-bang shot, but even so, it's relatively difficult to pull.  i guess if konami had some better card designers like the ones from Magic, this sort of thing could be avoided.  =/

btw, here's the current banned/restricted/semi-restricted for advanced format, if anyones's interested.  they'll probably update it again in october...

1. I never played to win anyone's cards.I left that for trading,also.

2. I gave all my cards to some friends who were still playing.I'm not sure if one of them still plays yet or not. Most of my friends started focusing on Magic and Inuyasha.Inuyasha was fairly easy for me to learn,i may be picking up some cards of my own for it soon.

too bad you can't email cards over the internet, lol...  i'd take em!  =3

yeah, most of my friends who played Yugioh have also quit, although not entirely for the same reasons.  sure, the introduction of the banned list kinda pissed us off originally, but most of us learned to accept it.  i think one thing that caused some of us to quit was the large amount of seemingly good monsters that were so unplayabe because they HAD to be summoned by tributing several specific cards.  my best friend, though...  he was an awesome card player, but at one point he just started having the longest bad luck streak, and he got so frustrated that he eventually quit both Yugioh AND Magic.   oh well...  he was nice enough to sell me all his good rares for $20.  =3  nowadays, he kinda helps "coach" one of my college buddies to build good decks and strategies because he gets a kick out of watching me lose to him, lol...

so... now that we know some of our resons for quiting... i have another question:

What was/is your favorite yugioh card(s)?

Mine are the almighty Jinzo and Yata Garatsu. Jinzo is the very first ultra rare that i pulled back in the day. Its also that card that got me into yugioh. My friend came over one day with a full box of the brand new Pharoe Servent Booster packs (1st edition). At first i thought that YuGIOH was a waste of time but then he convinced me to buy a pack of his for $3.50. I picked one at random and as i opened it i saw the 1st Edition Jinzo staring at me. i was like HELL YEA!!! I still have it up to this day. Not bad for paying $3.50 for a $30 card, eh? lol (sucks that Jinzo is banned now that the long awaited Amplifier is out -.-)
