Resident Evil: Outbreak series
« on: August 26, 2006, 05:24:02 am »
I borrowed my friend's Outbreak. It's one of the RE's I haven't beaten yet. Here's the thing... those load times between switching rooms are HORRIBLE. No wonder I stopped playing it after the 2nd scenario. So is File#2 worth getting? I heard they cut down the load times alot plus it's just Outbreak 1 with better load times and new extras.

1. The load times are about the same.

2. There's a move and shoot ability with handguns and shotguns(It works better with the handguns). You can also heal when you're wounded on the floor. There's a data transfer to bring your Outbreak characters to File 2 and vice versa. You can unlock an ability to make an offline team entirely out of NPC characters. Also,in File 2 you can pick who your two partners are, unlike Outbreak 1.

3. The RPD is one of the levels in File 2,plus Marvin Branaugh and Ben Bertolucci are unlockable characters. You also fight the Mr.X Tyrant (From RE2) in the final scenario.

Myself i like the Outbreak series alot. Here's why:

1. The 8 main characters had interesting backgrounds and special abilities.David's homemade weapon skills rock!Making a homemeade spear or flamethrower was great!Yoko's backpack lets beginners carry more items/weapons,so they don't have to backtrack for important items too much.Kevin failed the STARS exam twice...lol

2. The sheer number of unlockable characters was awesome. It was fun playing as cops, doctors, and of course,Umbrella soldiers and techs.

3. Melee weapons!Grab a pipe or a wooden plank and smash some zombies and Hunters.Finding the butcher knife was nice as well, plus throwing explosive chemical bottles and molotov cocktails was great!

4. The levels: Birkin's lab from RE2 and the hospital from RE3 (In the first Outbreak) were fun,and the RPD (in File 2) was cool. Also, the final scenario in both games was a delightful romp.

5. The team aspect: I always wanted to see a multiplayer Res Evil game, and playing with two AI partners (I only play offline) always is fun for me.In File 2 i like to run an offline team made up of Umbrella soldiers.

So far,Outbreak is the only 'spin-off' that i liked for Res Evil.(I didn't care much for Survivor,Dead Aim or Gaiden).I end up playing the Outbreak games more often than almost of the other Res Evil games, even though i have RE4 Premium Edition PS2 as well.

The 5 RE games i play the most are...

1. Resident Evil 2 (N64/Gamecube)
2. Outbreak File 2 (PS2)
3. Outbreak 1 (PS2)
4. Resident Evil (Gamecube)
5. Resident Evil (Saturn, mostly for the Battle Mode...lol)

Thanks for the input and RE2 is the one I played alot too. I grew up along with it and IMO it had the best setting and mad scientist villain among the other REs. Even though I've gotten the Tofu scenario, I'd still do speedruns for fun. I guess I'll try the first Outbreak a little bit longer before getting File#2.

BTW, did they improve RE2 port on the GC or is it just the same as the one on PSX and N64?

The Gamecube version is the PS1 version, but with better graphics resolution.

I have both the Cube version and the N64 version, because i really like N64's blood options (red, blue or green!),and the 16 EX files. Those features are ONLY on the N64 version.

Damn, I might considered getting a old N64 just for that. I kinda miss RE2 now after going back to the UG labs in Outbreak 1. BTW, I got a couple of questions.

1. How to hell do I kill that leech-guy on the Hive scenario?

2. Is it possible to lockpick that door on the area where there's a timer on Outbreak scenario. I tried all 4 lockpicks but just can't get it to open.

1. The Leechman, you have to lure him into a certain room, usually with a blood pack, and leave the room.He slurps on the blood pack for a bit,and you use a console in the next room to turn up the heat and kill him. (i made sure i bought the player's guides for both Outbreak games...lol)

2. When the timer is on in Outbreak scenario and you're trying to get out of the building there is one room (next to the elevator) that doesn't open no matter what. This room is not accessable at all.
