zSNES

[ROMate]

So I got a PS2 controller converter for my computer, to aid me in playing ol SNES fighting games. However, I can't get zSNES to let me use the controller. Anyone know what to do?

zSNES was the first emulator I ever used (to play RnF), but when I found SNES9x I stuck with that. I got scared of that blasted  alien DOS interface, lol.

Perhaps you could get that controller working in SNES9x?

Where can I download it? And do I need to download new roms for the new emulator?

I have both emulators, but I also prefer SNES9x.  The roms should work the same for both(the only one I couldn't play on 9x was Star Fox 2).

2: Unless they sell an SNES/USB converter, it'd be useless to me even if I knew where it was.

3: The PS2 controller is the closest approximation to the SNES controller out there. It's not the same, but it's every bit as good.

You may be connecting the controller after launching zSNES.  It won't recognize your controller unless it was connected before launching it.

The first thing to do would be to connect the controller and verify that it's working.

Connect it to the computer and then go to Start>Control Panel>Game Controllers.  You click on your controller's properties to verify that all of the buttons and axis are working.  It's plug and play so there shouldn't be anything you have to set up.

Once you know you've got it working, launch zSNES and then go to the controller configuration menu.  It should work from there.

As I think it should work fine in SNES9x

BTW, I use normal PC game controller through the USB and it's working directily without problems.

I too, use a standard USB controller.

SNES9X is the better emulator of choice.

And you can get a decent PC Game Control Pad for 10-15 bux.

I went to game controllers and I'm not seeing it. There's an "add" button that lets me add controllers, but I'm not sure what the PS2 controller would count as, seeing as it has 8 buttons and 1 d-pad, and 2 control sticks.

After you get the program, go set up the controller in the joypad section, set your PS2 pad as follows.

D PAD L-R-D-U = Up Down Left Right respectivly, don't worry about diagonal.
Cross, Box, Triangle, Circle = Set these up for the primary buttons on the joypad, match them to SNES if you wish
L1-R1 = Shoulder buttons for SNES go here
Start and Select = Duh.
L2-R2 = Don't program
Analog Sticks = N/A, they're just gonna sit there.

Does this only happen in ZSNES? Like, are you able to get it working in other emulators? If not, it may just be a problem with the USB port. Otherwise, it might just be your version of ZSNES (my version works just fine).

Also, for a plug-and-play, you shouldn't ever have to add it into your control panel. As soon as you plug it in, it should say this (or something like it, depending on the port's name):

It happens no matter which emulator I'm on. It came with a driver/setup CD that I've run a million times trying to get it to work. I unplugged it, then plugged it back in and it said the device wasn't recognized and no drivers were installed, when I had just run the CD. I'm thinking I was sold a POS converter and I need to just get another one.
