SFA: Anthology
« on: May 29, 2006, 08:43:28 pm »
Anyone hear about this? Should I be getting this? Cause I don't have any Alpha games, but I'm not too into them either. I might get it cause they added a parry ISM though.

From what I've gathered on the game, the extra ISMs are only available on some special mode where you just battle against the characters, not in the actual games.

The Anthology also comes with Pocket Fighter, a fighter featuring SD/chibi versions of characters from SF, Vampire and Warzard.  No where near as technical as SFA, but a 1000x more fun.

Personally, I can think of other titles that I'd like to see get a collection, like an updated D&D collection minus the constant load times that plagued the Saturn version.

True,I have the import Saturn version of D and D Collection, and while the load times are a bit long,i don't mind them at all.I'm happy just being able to play them at home on my Saturn. It's kind like how people didn't like the way the transparencies didn't work so well in the import Saturn version of Akumajo Dracula X- Nocturne in the Moonlight (Castlevania- Symphony of the Night),but i didn't mind that at all either.I enjoyed playing the game, and i still do.I'm glad i bought both D and D Collection and Dracula X- Nocturne.I'm more about having fun with my games, despite their various flaws,or what have you.

ADDED: I didn't get D and D Collection until sometime after I got Resident Evil Outbreak for PS2.Since I don't have the PS2 Hard Drive,i became accostumed to long loading periods with Outbreak, and later Outbreak File 2,so maybe that's another reason why the load times in D and D Collection don't bother me as much as they bother everyone else.

I used to have SFA3 for Dreamcast. In my opinion, it was the best. I still don't know what happened to it though. Hopefully the Analogy version is just as good.

Wow, the extra ISMs are news to me!  Maybe I'll give the anthology a shot sooner than I expected.

I say rent it. Only buy it if you're going to play with your friends.

The extra ISMs are in Hyper Street Fighter Alpha, where you have every character from the Alpha series (except for the MAX characters: Maki, Eagle, Yun and Ingrid). You can select which game style you want them from (Alpha, Alpha 2, Alpha 2 Gold, Alpha 3) and also the fighting style (ISMs, Saikyo/Maki/Classic/Normal).

If you hold start at and hit left or right, you can get the secret ISM's depending on which of the styles you highlighted:

Normal - Green - Darkstalkers [Chain combos]
Saikyo - Blue - Street Fighter 3 [Parrying]
Maki - Red - Street Fighter 2 [Super Damage, one Super] *Not sure about this one, haven't touched it really...
Classic - Orange - "VS" [Characters have VS styles and their moves change [ie, Ken, Satsui no Ruy get air fireballs]

There's no ARC mode in HSFA. Just Versus, Training and Options. And in Versus, you can only select a CPU opponent if you have a controller plugged in the player 2 slot. Kinda lame.

I never was a fan of Alpha either, so that lowers my score.

6/10

6 + 0.1 for the "effort".

sadly if i did that i would not buy the game in the first place.

Though i have played VS stuff, and can do good at it,i'm much more of a co-op person than a VS person.Too many people try to make VS mode stuff into "I'm gonna pound you cause i'm much better than you",and then they get mad if they lose,so i quickly grew tired of VS mode stuff.

While i like Street Fighter in general,i like the Alpha series alot more. But then,i like odd games such as Wily and Light's RockBoard for import NES and Kunio no Oden for import SNES,so i'm used to liking some unusual games that not many other people like.

Me personally,i like the art style of SFA better, and i like the way the characters look. Bison actually looks powerful, compared to what he looked like in SF2.I played SF3 at a friend's house, and i actually liked it,i just don't have the game in my library yet.SF3 was definately fun, though,no arguement there. ^_^

Personally, I didn't care for SF2 until SSF 2.

As far as the roster goes, Chun-Li, Sagat and Bison (Dictator) were the only characters I liked from SF2 until Cammy, Dee Jay and Fei-Long came along.

I prefer the Alpha and SF3 characters for the most part over the overhyped classicses.

And as far as music goes, I don't have a problem with SF3's tunes or Alpha 3's tunes.
I, for one, am sick of hearing SF2 tunes getting remixed to infinite and beyond...

Apparently I'm the minority in that department.

Don't give a crap about competitive play either.  I play fighters for fun, something I seldom get when playing against others.  Least of all when SF's the fighter in question.

And put me on the list of people that prefer SF2 Bison over SFA Bison.  What a letdown!

Alpha Bison has Psycho Crusher as a super. Either way, it's damaging as fuck.

Priority sucks though.  Real bad!  I got knocked out of a lever 3 Psycho Crusher the other day by a standard attack.  Couldn't even finish Alpha 3 with Bison until I switched to X-ism.

Still pales to how he actually was in SSF2, but it's still better than the Alpha alternative.

Can you play as Shin Bison in Analogy as well as the previous versions? Cause frankly, Bison knows how to party in that form.

Yeah, HGIR, I know he had the Psycho Crusher super, but I'm talking about having PC as a special.

>>Psycho Crush whore in CvS2<

Uhm, import, the SF2 themes were remixed in one or two or the Alpha games.

LordRyunson:

Shin Vega's there all right... and in HSFA, you can set him to Classic if you want the SF2 Bison.

I agree that SFA3 is the best, or at least it's my personal favorite. My characters of choice are Rolento, Chun-Li, Adon, and...wait for it....Zangief. The reason I like the agile characters is simple enough, but Zangief requires a different playstyle than most characters. Also, few players are experienced as playing vs. someone who knows how to use Zangief, so sometimes I get the surprise factor when playing vs. friends. Close whiffed banishing fist into special/super throw is one of my favorite tricks with him, although there are many others.

Gem fighter is...actually, I'm not sure. I only rented it once, and the battle system seemed okay, but I prefer the more serious games.
