Maple Story
« on: May 07, 2006, 04:05:05 pm »
Yeah, so after fiercely resisting playing this game for about 2 months, I finally gave in to my Gaia buddies and joined up for Maple Story. I'm a level 8 beginner with about 30-ish levels to go in order to catch up to them, and I don't have half the time they do.

Maple Story reminds me of Rayman with the level layouts for some reason. Bashing enemies is easy enough, and the quests are fairly straightforward. I imagine it'd be more fun with a party, but alas, I have no party.

Bravery is better than a faint heart for a man seeking to put his nose out of doors. My fate and the number of my days has already been decided.

Bah, parties are for sissies and/or Party Quest moments.

Heehee, trust me, those foes get trickier the farther along you go. I'm at level 45 and half the enemies I can fight that are worth a damn EXP-wise try to bust a magical cap in my ass every time I hit them now.

Civility is overrated, don't you think?

Hey, YTF, mind giving me a rundown on the classes? The main site, as expected, is only really telling me the strengths of classes.
Oh, little ice cream friends, Thog delay his boredom-driven rampage only for you.

Sorry about the summer schoolin', man.

Too bad you can't enjoy some Maple Gaming, though, it's a whole lotta fun.

I just got the first Atelier Iris game last week...it's pretty neat.

The thing i don't like about MMORPG's is they tend to be online only, and i can't tie up the phone line for hours by internetting, due to mom's medical condition.I'm lucky if i get to go online for an hour to update message board posts and such.Maybe once i get my own place,i could do it...

But,that's why i'm glad i have alot of offline RPG's like Phantasy Star Collection, Phantasy Star 4,PSO Plus,Star Wars KOTOR 2,DBZ Legacy of Goku 1 and 2,DBZ Buu's Fury,Ranma 1/2 Secret Treasure of the Red Cat Gang,Sailor Moon Another Story, and a ton of Final Fantasy games.

Don't forget Disgaea. That's an awesome time waster. My level 27 Motoko, Laharl and Kiinan all agree.

I wonder how long it'll take to get them all up to 9999... 0_o;

Hey, YTF, mind giving me a rundown on the classes? The main site, as expected, is only really telling me the strengths of classes.

I can't speak from experience on a lot of the classes, but here's what I do know.

Basics first:
-There's some stat builds on the GameFAQs boards that you pretty much have to follow if you want your little dude to fight at his maximum capabilities.

Other than that:

Warrior: Ironically, you're not gonna be doing as much damage as everybody else early on, and you're the only class that doesn't have an early on long-range attack. However, you have BY FAR the highest HP and defense (stuff that still deals about 100 damage to mages will likely deal half that or less to you). You do become MUCH, MUCH stronger later on, though. Plus, your attacks DO have longer ranges than just about every other classes' physical attacks.

Magician: Probably the easiest class to handle (although the beginning, if you're trying to stick to the builds, is hell), you START with long-range attacks, which is good because physically attacking enemies is suicide personified (on the EXTREME off-chance you actually hit, you WILL do 1 damage to all but the weakest enemies). You have to be VERY careful attacking enemies early on until you have MP Guard reasonably leveled. Why? Because MP Guard, although it causes up to 80% of your damage to be converted to MP damage, is about the only way you'll survive more than a couple of hits- sometimes even ONE hit from certain enemies. Also, because the class is so widely used, you have to pay out the ass for your class' equipment off other Maplers, who are the only source of Level 45+ equips you have (aside from drops, which don't happen often). You do have the most MP by FAR, though, and your attacks are extremely powerful compared to others for a long time. You can also take advantages of the elemental weaknesses of your chosen class' enemies once you're level 30. This is the class I picked. Oh, if you choose to be a Cleric at level 30, you are the only class that can heal without items, but if you don't like playing in parties, I'd pick an attack class instead, as they are the weakest attackers (using said heal against undead enemies notwithstanding.

Bowman: You ARE given a FEW short-range weapons you can use, but as you might suspect, they're for emergency use once you run out of arrows. And you guessed it, you have to shoot shoot shoot all your enemies with those bows. I'm guessing, but I believe you're the only class that can knock enemies backward WITHOUT hitting the damage threshold required to do so (sure, you won't even notice this on level 20 enemies, but trust me, it gets crazy later on). You have the highest DEX out of all the classes. Do not run out of arrows.

Thief: Another popular class. Their LUK is the highest and they get to dodge the most attacks as a result. They're allowed to use EITHER daggers OR throwing stars, and there are specific class advancements for those who prefer either type at level 30. Dagger-users get to be Hermits, and Star-users get to be Assassins. Assassins are EXTREMELY popular solely due to their ability to use "Haste", which causes you to move MUCH faster and jump MUCH higher once you level it up some, but their sole attacking skill until level 70 is Lucky Seven- the same skill they've used since LEVEL 8. Hermits get a few more options, including the severely damaging Savage Blow, and some more once level 70 comes around. If you are an Assassin, your throwing stars cost obscene amounts of money, being that you can ONLY purchase all but the very weakest (subis) from other Maplers. You can recharge them in item shops for next to nothing, though. The fact that they require relative lots of money to keep fighting early on is a definite minus, but it becomes less of an issue later on. I have a girl thief named "Komon" that I plan on having become an Assassin though, thanks to my luck at finding stars with my mage. My intermediary is none of your damn business.

Hope that helps some.

I've considered getting into it, but I'm too busy, with work, the band, working out, writing, work, Final Fantasy VII runs, Final Fantasy VIII runs, JAFAX, Cosplay preperations, fencing, etc.

That said, I do admit it looks fun.

I'm having decent fun with it, though the areas around Henesys are so cluttered it's hard to do quests.

Well I think I need an updated Install File, which is unfortunate, I'm on dial up, and it's impossible for me to pull that off, so I'll grab a install file next time I'm at my friends house with DSL
