Damn near wrecked the pad though. Becuase it had to be tilted over about 4-5 degrees to avoid collision with the tower, exhaust created considerable damage. Caused two toxic chemical leaks, destroyed both elevators, severed communication lines to control, melted the megaphone system, and damaged the hinges on the rotating column. It's going to cost alot of money to repair 39B now.

Such is the way of things with experimental rockets. I'm really hoping they do more.

Not anytime soon.

Next Ares launch (I-Y) isn't scheduled until March 2014. There's no need to test the upper stages of the rocket until the electrical and command interface for the Orion CM is finalized in 2013. To shoot off another Ares I before then wouldn't prove anything.

And NASA can't construct any Ares V's until the Shuttle is retired. The company that builds the external fuel tanks for the shuttle would have to retool to build the fuel tanks for Ares Vs. Plus the pads need to be reconfigured for Ares V's height. The platforms and crawlers need to be upgraded too but those won't take as much time and aren't holding back the schedule. The V-Y launch isn't scheduled until 2018.

Very ho-hum over the next few years.

All very true. Hopefully NASA will get more funding soon so they can accelerate their program.
