Hardcore gaming vs. Casuals
« on: October 29, 2007, 07:06:44 pm »
Which one are you?

Definition:

Hardcore - always face the toughest challenges and come out on top, sooner or later. Total mastery of games.

Casual - play games for fun.

Mixed - play games for fun and tries the difficult stuff, but will give up if they're too difficult.

I'm a combination of hardcore and mixed. As long as the game doesn't turn into a massive grind (*coughNipponIchicough*), I'll try/will beat the toughest challenge and some degree of completionism (not the "max level, full stats, absolutely everything attainable" completion, but at least beating so-called "hardest bosses" and unlocking secrets/extras).

[Extra: thought of putting this in the versus thread, but not really much of a despute or comparison]

I usually just play for fun

Though sometimes, in fighting games, i like to set the difficulty highest to see how well i do
Concentrate your mind
Mutter the spell to Mini-Hakkero tenderly
Aim at someone you don't like
Now unleash your annihilation of love!
!MASTER SPARK!

Please don't say that a casual gamer is playing for fun and a hardcore gamer is not playing for fun. Both of these people are playing for fun, but their definitions of fun are radically different.

For the casual gamer, it's enough to simply play the game, winning, losing, completion be damned. For the hardcore gamer, the fun is reaching the highest peak of skill possible. It's why we have all these crazy people playing in fighting game tournaments and then the folks at home just mashing buttons and shooting the breeze.

Depends on the game for me, but I probably sit in the middle of the mix. If I play it's to see and do almost everything I can in the game. If it doesn't interest me, I skip it.

I agree with ROMate on this one.  Both are playing for fun its just that what makes a game fun is different for each of them. I find myself in the mixed category, it really depends on the game.  If I really enjoy a game and play it multiple times then I will try to make each sucessive attempt more difficult.

This is truth, I will admit. I guess I skewed things a bit too much into a black and white category when I was typing this.

Mixed. I only go hardcore if I really like the game and the challenge gives me something worth. Like Samus' hot pix.
I like big bOObs and I can not lie!

I like his definitions actually.

Because you know anybody who calls themselves hardcore is way too far up their own ass to even bother communicating with.  *cough*

I play games for fun.

Mixed here.  I love video games with a passion, and I love being competitive in them; but there's a point where studying all the extreme details becomes too much like work and not enough like play, lol.  :3

Or maybe you're just busy/disinterested in console games?

Those of us who play MMOs would fall under "Hardcore Gamer" automatically, I think.

Just a thought,I mean we sit and play these games for countless hours a week just grinding up to that next big advancement or whatever, hardcore gaming? Try the grind from 1-40 to get your mount in WoW. Or even worse, the grind between 30-70 in MapleStory to get your third job!

MMO players = Hardcore.
