An appaulogy and a new beginning
« on: August 03, 2007, 09:14:23 pm »
First of, one apaulogy to Hyperguy for disappearing off the face of the planet after trying to start a visual novel project with him. Things ended up hitting a rocky snag with the writer, who for some reason decided to become a hermit for 2 months and leave me with a half-finished script and a severe case of concept artist rage. Sorry it wasn't cool for me to just leave you out dry like that and I feel like I should apologize.

That aside, I return to the hyperguy forums to share a little story and a new project of mine.

A while back DLsite.com decided to start accepting submissions from artists outside of Japan, having been a long-time fan of DLsite I was one of the first to register as a creator. However since that time, I've not bothered to create anything for them for a variety of lame reasons.

This Otakon though, I met the very people behind DLsite.com and that got my gears working towards creating something new. I wanted to create something of quality and something that could help the non-Japanese creators on the website gain a better reputation.

After a little brainstorming, I've decided to create a series of 50 illustrations, one for each state in the USA, featuring cute, exotic, and sexy women representing the unique themes and cultures found around the country. It's a pretty tall order to try and distill such a melting pot of cultures into a mere 50 illustrations. So to that end, I'd like to get people's opinions on what they think really sets 'their' state apart from the other 49. Oh, and for those of you who might be visiting from around the world, what qualities do you think are essential to your vision of women from the USA?

I live just outside of New York City.  In there, th ere is no "unique theme" or culture.  At least not any I could put my mind on.  Also, wilkommen bacquez, i guess.

For big metropolitan places I'm going with things that are emblematic of the state, things like the Statue of Liberty for New York are emblems not only for the state, but the country as well.

Sounds like an interesting project.

For Washington you may want to consider a lumberjack.  As for Minnesota you could try someone in a canoe (lots of lakes around here).  I will try to think of other options for those states (I used to live in Washington and I currently live in Minnesota).

Well, if you're looking for sexy women from Arkansas, you're gonna have a hard time.  Nothing but rednecks, white trash, and other stereotypes up here...  I guess you could put Bill Clinton surrounded by a lot of bitches, since he's from Arkansas...  >_<

Still, I think it's an interesting idea, and I wish you good luck with it.

I'm just glad you said something.  I was really looking forward to working on that project, but all the same am glad to get some closure on it.  I was pretty fired up to that one finished for Nanoren.  Apology accepted.

Theoretically we could still do work on it, but the original script writer has simply gone MIA and we'd have to adjust it/add to it ourselves. I'm honestly a little befuddled as to why he dropped he end of the line as well, but I guess college life must have gotten to him.

For Washington you may want to consider a lumberjack.

Or one that's high tech, since Microsoft and Boeing are there too.

Missouri: the Southwest (where I lived) had the absolute worst of any state weather-wise. Thunderstorms in the summer, occasional floods from the river, even more occasional earthquakes (yes, earthquakes!), sometimes a tornado (rare, but has happened), sometimes snow storms in the Winter. Oh yeah, at least 70*F every summer and humidity at least 60% daily (from what I've heard, they're getting about 90*+ nowadays, not including effects of humidity); Winters usually 40* or below daily. Hell, the only thing NOT to happen is hurricanes and tsunamis. Culture is nonexistant, since almost every town is a long ways from each other. As for women...not a clue. For some reason, there is no dominant personality type. Just a weird mix of almost every type of personality there is.

I like that suggestion.

Yeah, college life can be pretty stressful.  At the moment though, I've got my own project to consider.  You can count on me for Nanoren next year though.

Amen.  Trying to find a major you like is one thing, but having shitty teachers is another.  Also, I don't really see the point of re-learning basic gen-eds, seeing how they've already been drilled into your brain from high school...  =/

...and that's why I decided to quit, for now at least.  If all goes well, I should have a job back at Wal-Mart again soon, and I can start making some money of my own...

...Say, that gives me an idea for your project, Snow Puma.  Wal-Mart originated in Arkansas... maybe you could use that in some way.

Bollocks.  College is easy as pie.

Of course it's odd when they give you a bachelor in the ARTS for a CompSci major.

It's also even more odd when you can't get a fucking job after graduating.  Thinking about going for a Master's.  College is easy as crap so how hard could a Master's be then hunh?

Well I'm working towards my Ph.D. in Astronomy and it hasn't exactly been easy.  Sure in my undergrad days classes outside my major (which was Physics) were pretty easy (minus Math of course) but usually interesting.  On the other hand Statistical Mechanics, Solid State and freaking Differential Equations kicked my ass.  So yeah, it really depends on what you are doing.  I also have a friend who did AA (Aeronautical Astronautical Engineering) and he lost his soul do the department for about 2 years.

PHDS DON'T COUNT YOU SILLY silly man going for silly phd

also differential equations are liek totally easy.

I always thought about taking Calc 3 but my degree track requirements stopped at calc 2.  But... it would have been nice.... calculus was actually quite hard at first, then you realized all the "this course is going to kick your ass" stuff was all just bollocks and then you were all like "lulz"

Granted it's been several years since I was in a real honest to goodness math class so by now I think I'd be lucky to solve a long division problem.

I once took a cryptography class as an elective.

Now that... yeah, that totally kicked my ass.  The only reason I got a B- in that class was because everybody else did so poorly the professor just decided to give us all B-'s.
I still think it was because the professor thought he was teaching a graduate level course and not an undergraduate, intro level course, though -_-

He would always go "you can't solve this?  really?  because my graduate class solved this in 0.001234 seconds last year."

and we were always like "WE ARE ALL GODDAMN SOPHOMORES...... 'cept Joe he's a Junior"
