I agree. It just doesn't stand out as much as I'd like it to.  I'll put it on the to do list.  In Firefox the carat and input box default to white and black.  Does it show up that way for you as well?

It is black on white since you fixed it on the 2nd.  On the 1st it was black on gray, with a standard windows gray carat.
