Post your video game screenshots here!
« on: August 22, 2006, 11:23:05 am »
Originally, this was going to be a thread aimed at the Sailor Jupiter fans who wanted to see her in the video games, but then i thought it'd be fairer if it was a topic in general where all members could post some of their own screenshots,to display a high score, point out something odd/neat in a game,or whatever.

Well,as some of you know,i'm a big fan of Sailor Jupiter,so i thought i'd discuss how she operates in some of the video games. That being said, here's 4 shots.

In this shot,Jupiter is about to fight Queen Metallia on the Sega Genesis game.
Metallia is only accessible on Hard difficulty. In Sailor Moon for Genesis/SNES and Sailor Moon R for SNES,Jupiter is the heavy hitter, doing the most damage of all characters.
She has uppercuts, throw moves, and can even use a rose petal storm/spinning kick as a desperation move. She also can shoot lightning projectiles. In Sailor Moon R,if a 2nd player throws her at an enemy,Jupiter can do a flying body slam move, and she has sparkling wide pressure in 1 player mode as a massive attack that hits everyone on screen.

Here,Sapphire and Jupiter prepare to do battle in Sailor Moon R for Gameboy. The game has segments which are plot driven, where you talk to characters and investigate your surroundings to move the story along. At a certain point,it becomes an action game, where you dodge obsticles and shoot magic at Dark Moon Droids and bosses.Jupiter investigates Prince Diamond's base on Nemesis and ends up fighting Sapphire in the room where the Dark Droids are created.Jupiter throws her 'shining dragon head' magic attacks in this game.Normally,Moon fights Catzi in level 1,Mercury fights Rubeus in level 2,Mars fights Emerald in level 3,Jupiter fights Sapphire in level 4, and Venus fights Prince Diamond in the final level...however there's an action mode where you can pick one of the five Soldiers, and you use that character to play all the action and boss levels, without the story/exploration elements.

In Sailor Moon S for Gamegear, you only play as Sailor Moon or Mini-Moon.However other Soldiers and Tuxedo Mask explain the mini-game rules. In this pic,Jupiter is explaining the rules for one of the mini-games for Mini-Moon.Generally,the Outer Soldiers/Tuxedo Mask explain rules to Sailor Moon, while the Inner Soldiers explain rules to Mini-Moon.

In the fighting games for Sailor MoonS and Sailor Moon SuperS,you play as an Inner Soldier or Mini-Moon,and you battle the other Soldiers to see if you should be the new leader. The Outer Soldiers serve as the game's bosses.Sailor Saturn wasn't included until the SuperS fighting games. Here,Jupiter fights Saturn in the SNES version of SuperS.Jupiter is still a heavy hitter, with many punches, kicks and throws,as well as magic attacks like Jupiter Coconut Cyclone (a lightning attack that goes upwards on the screen),and Jupiter Oak Evolution (she spins and throws lightning 'darts' across the screen).

Anyone else have any screenshots they want to share?

And now, some Nexus, prbably my favorite tactical space combat game.

Here's one of my destroyers firing one of its many lasers. Lasers are not shipkilling guns, as they only do miniscule damage to the hulls of enemy ships. They can, however, disable anything a ship is equipped with. Anything.

Now the battle has been joined, and I've knocked out the shields of a battleship, I've given my heavy cruiser in the background free license to pound it with torpedoes. Those, by the way, are shipkiller weapons.

I naturally had to resize the screenshots.

Is this where that Sephiroth cruiser came from?

Nope. That came from Freespace 2, which is a Wing Commander-ish game rather than a tactical combat game.

One of the features i liked most about River City Ransom EX was putting your own crew together. Some were hidden characters you just had to find, while others were bosses like Mojo and Tex that you could only get if your reputation was high enough.
The Custom Self item, which lets you create your own character, was a great addition as well.I've been a long time RCR/Kunio fan since the original NES River City Ransom.

The SNES Ranma Hard Battle game was what got me into Ranma 1/2 big time,as well as anime in general.(When i was little,i didn't know that Voltron,Transformers and Robotech were anime). The ad and review for Hard Battle in an issue of EGM prompted me to pick up the game the day it came out. After playing the game,i then began picking up the manga and soon the anime that had just began coming out on VHS.It was while picking up Ranma 1/2 anime that i noticed an odd title on the shelf, which was only available in subtitled VHS back then...Bubblegum Crisis,i picked that up also,it looked interesting.I give the SNES Hard Battle game credit for starting me off on Ranma 1/2,Bubblegum Crisis and anime in general.

Nexus, hmm... is that anything like the Homeworld games??  i was able to play the first Homeworld on my crappy computer, but it couldn't handle the second one...  i enjoyed playing that game, i heard rumors that there might be plans for a third one.

Aside from the Full-3D aspect, I wouldn't say it's all that much like Homeworld. Each ship you get is practically its own unique hull, which you can outfit with whatever combination of equipment that's available for it and it can carry. For example, I could've simply ripped all of the lasers out of that tactical destroyer, and stuffed it with torps or railguns to make it an opportunity shipkiller once I'd defeated an enemy ship's shields.

I need something better than my webcam to take screenshots with. Better still, I wish I could actually record myself playing fighting games for you guys to see.

Ah... yeah, I have replays for SF3, but I don't have a capture card. I was on an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, and now I'm on a BFG Nvidia 6800 GT OC. Can I capture or something with it?

More Nexus for y'all.

This hurts as much as it looks like it does. Some battleships carry a weapon called a Siege laser, which is so powerful that a battleship alone can't fire it. It requires the assistance of at least two other vessels, which divert power to the Seige laser equipped ship. The bam does massive damage, and ignores all kinds of shields. However, since the ship has to be pointed directly at the target, it's only useful on slow or stationary vessels or targets.

And this, as they say, is the end. That battleship finally got what it deserved, and note how heavily damaged the ship looks: Vessels look more and more decrepit as they take more hull damage.

Next will probably be detail shots rather than battle shots.

Crappy screenshot of a glitch in Sonic 3. Rather than come down off Super Sonic at the end of the 2nd Zone, the time and rings freeze and you remain as Super Sonic until the start of Zone 3.
