Title: Megaman topic
Post by: importgamer13 on August 09, 2006, 09:22:15 pm
I'm guessing we have alot of various Megaman fans here.

What was the first Megaman game you ever played that made you a Megaman fan?

For me,it was Megaman 2 on the NES.My buddy rented it when it first came out.I had no idea what it was,but we beat it that night, and i've been a fan ever since.
I've also got Rockman 2 on my import game Rockman Mega World, and i like that version best.Althought I like alot of the Megaman games(Though i'm not into Legends or Zero series),Megaman 2/Rockman 2 will always be my fave.

The X series was amazing to me,way back on the SNES...though i have most of the X games,i like X1-3,X8,Xtreme 1 and 2,and Maverick Hunter X more than the others.

Battle Network reminds me alot of one of my fave movies,Tron.I think it's that aspect which made me a fan of Battle Network. It's hard to say which of the 3 i like more...the original,X series or Battle Network series...i don't really see fit to deem one series over the other, but then i'm like that about most game series i play.I could never pin down one series,or even one game that is my fave over all other games ever made,i have too many series that i enjoy.I guess i'm complicated...lol

Currently I have...

Original series:
Megaman Anniversary Collection (PS2) (Has MM1-8 and both arcade games)
Megaman and Bass (GBA)
Rockman and Forte (Import SNES)
Rockman Mega World (Import Genesis)
Wily and Light's RockBoard (Import NES) (It plays like Monopoly)
Megaman 1-5 (Gameboy)
Megaman Powered Up (PSP)

X series:
Megaman X Collection (Gamecube) (MMX1-6 and Megaman Battle and Chase)
Megaman Xtreme 1 and 2 (Gameboy Color)
Megaman Maverick Hunter X (PSP)
Rockman X3 (Import Saturn and PS1)
Megaman X7 and 8 (PS2)

Battle Network series:
Battle Network 1,2 (GBA)
Battle Network 3 Blue (GBA)
Battle Network 4 Blue Moon (GBA)
Battle Network 5 Protoman,Colonel (GBA) and Double Team (DS)
Battle Network 6 Gregar (GBA)
Battle Chip Challenge (GBA)

Megaman 3 made me a fan. I didn't like MM2. The first one was okay, and 4 was the beginning of charging.

My favorite's X2, and after that it's MM3, then 7/8/RnF, all tied.

NES:
Megaman 1 - 5

SNES:
X2

GEN:
Rockman World

PSX:
X5
X6

PS2:
X Collection

PSP:
Powered Up

with the PSP games...

Megaman Powered Up:
I liked playing as charcters like Iceman and Gutsman. That was a neat feature.I haven't tried the 'make your own levels' thing yet.

Megaman Maverick Hunter X:
The 20 minute anime movie 'Day of Sigma' rocked!Of course, being able to play the game as Vile was a huge bonus as well. ^_^

I'm just wondering how they're going to make the other games with unlockable characters.

X2: FOR THE FIRS TIME EVER! PLAY AS THE GREEN DUDE FROM THE X2 INTRO!
Or the X Hunters or something.

Well, there are always the others from Command Mission.

Actually,i wouldn't be surprised if they made the X-Hunters playable in the next one.According to interviews online(on various Megaman fansites),Megaman's creator wishes to do remakes of MM 2-6 and MMX2-6 as well.He only picked those ones becuase he said the later games 'lacked something special' and that the success of the PSP remakes will determine if he'll authorize MMX9 or even a MM9 (He has said many times Megaman and Bass/Rockman and Forte is NOT Megaman 9/Rockman 9,it's only a side story.),so if the PSP remakes don't sell well,we're not getting a Megaman 9 or a Megaman X9,from what Megaman's creator said.I feel that's kinda unfair for him to do that to the fans (alot of people polled on Gamefaqs said they don't even like PSP and have zero interest in it,so it's unfair to base Megaman and Megaman X's future on the PSP titles),but that's they way he wishes to do it,i guess...

Megaman character faves....

Wily Robots: Metalman,Shadowman,Iceman,Brightman,Tenguman,Bass,Enker and Saturn

Japan Wily robots: Buster Rod.G

Elite Mavericks: Vile,Sigma,Agile,Bit,Zain and Berekana

General Mavericks: Magna Centipede,Chill Penguin,Gravity Beetle,Bamboo Pandamonium

Navi Operators: Mr.Gauss,Mayl/Maylu,Chaud,and Tamako

Navis: Magnetman,Roll,Protoman,Metalman,and Shadowman

Fave games:
Besides Megaman 2,I'm fond of Rockman Mega World as a whole.Besides having an upgraded version of Rockman 1-3,the Wily Tower game featuring Buster Rod.G,Mega Water.S and Hyper Storm.H makes Rockman Mega World my fave.

Another good one is Megaman 5 for Gameboy. The Stardroids left quite an impression on me,and if you've been reading my Wily Wars fic on this site, you'll recall i actually used some of them in my fics recently. It was also nice that this game brought back Enker,Quint,Punk and Ballade from Gameboy Megaman 1-4 as well!

I also like Wily and Light's RockBoard alot.I'm a big fan of Monopoly, and a Rockman game that played like Monopoly was too sweet for me to pass up!I've beaten two of the gameboards as Wily,so i saw his ending pic twice!(The game lets you play as Wily,Dr.Light,Roll,Dr.Cossack or Kalinka Cossack)

Megaman Xtreme 2 is another fave of mine.I liked the fact that not only can you play as Zero in this one,but they pulled some Mavericks from all 3 of the SNES Megaman X games for this title! The two new villians,Gareth and Berekana were cool, plus Sigma was as evil as ever.Plus you had Iris selling you upgrade parts as well! (This game takes place right before Megaman X4)

Megaman Battle Network 5 is the final entry on my faves list.I liked the 'team' aspect of the game,i just wish the Liberation Mission rules were more easier to work with.Playing the missions as Navis like Shadowman,Gyroman and Protoman was awesome!

I always loved the original Mega Man X, and X2

Other than that, Mega Man 2 was my favourite classic megaman game, though 3 left an impression as well.

Good series, my favourite mega man game as a whole? Megaman Legends. REPRESENT

Yeah import, don't worry. I breathed Megaman when I was a kid. I worked at Megaman XZTH, and Megaman Universe. I stuck around MEgaman Outpost and Network. I knew like... everything.

I vote no for X9//MM9. Just remakes with better elements that'll help link the original series with the X series.

Well, that's why fans want a Megaman 9.They want it to end leading directly up to Megaman X.

As far as X,I'd like to see a Megaman X9 to finish things off.Sigma's finally dead, and now Axl is infected possibly by Lumine.I hope Capcom doesn't leave us hanging after those developments.

I just read on Wikipedia...apparently the remakes of MM1 and MMX1 on PSP didn't do as well as Megaman's creator,Kejii Inafune had hoped,so now he's 'disinterested in keeping the PSP remakes going'.
This blows...

Classic>Legends>X>Battle Network.

Megaman 3 left such a lasting impression on me that I find I compare all Megaman games to it. It was fun, it was challenging, but not impossibly hard. The first 4 Megaman X games were suitable, but at 5 it started getting out of hand. Zero died for the gajillionth time and I just put the series down. Legends was spectacular. While it was far removed from the standard Megaman set, it was a good change of pace. Building new weapons out of spare parts was amazing, and it encouraged exploration without making it too tedious. Connecting every ruin on the island by building and using weapons was hella fun, as was getting hopelessly lost in it (I made 50,000 zenny once just by losing my way in there).

Megaman 3 was definately one of the great ones.If i had to rate which ones i liked most out of the original series,i'd probably say these are my top 5.

1. Rockman Mega World (Rockman 1-3 and Wily Tower as a whole,Import Genesis)
2. Megaman and Bass (GBA)/Rockman and Forte (Import SNES)....I have both...^_^()
3. Wily and Light's RockBoard (Import NES)
4. Megaman Battle and Chase (On Megaman X Collection,Gamecube)
5. Megaman 5 (Gameboy version)

I liked the fact that in the Gameboy Color Megaman Xtreme games, they put in the fireball/dragon punch.

In the first one it wasn't much help...it wasn't a 1 hit kill, and it only did small chunks of damage. But i liked the fact they put them in.

However,in Megaman Xtreme 2,they made them a bit more useful. They still weren't 1 hit kills, they only did small damage to Sigma, but where they shined was the rematch battles with the 8 Mavericks. One hit from either the punch or fireball brings a Maverick down to half health,a second hit from either one kills them off the rest of the way.

Still, they were better in the SNES games, but i just thought it was a nice extra that they snuck them into the 2 Xtreme games.

Getting Hadouken in X1 was rough. Getting Shoryuken in X2 was just ridiculous. I never could get past that one section with the spikes.

I think i only got the dragon punch in X2 once...it was too damn hard. It's actually much more do-able in Xtreme1.It uses the same level from X2,but it's more managable.

getting the moves in Xtreme 2 was hella hard for me.

X2's like, my favorite game. I can beat the game without any armor//tank and with only one life. It's like... so awesome.

So for the Shoryu, get up to those spikes and dash first, not Speed Burner. A lot of people make the mistake of Using the charged Speed Burner first, then dashing.

If you do dash first, only tap A to get the little boost in the air. Then as soon as you're past those horizontal spiked at the end of the platform, turn around and fire that charged Burner. The trick is to not air dash too long, and to know that X moves around fairly quickly when he's in the air.

Fuck Shoryuken dude. By the time you got it you barely got to use it.

After I got it so I could say "Bitch nigga I got shoryuken", I never got it again. Just because I found it pointless.

Say what!

SHORYU >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hado.

Shoryu has invincibility frames.
Shoryu travels forward and upwards.
Shoryu hurts.
Shoryu fire!

SHORYUKEN!

That's right, Ken's gonna sho Ryu! SHORYUKEN!

=]

But you're right... you only get it near the end. It's useful against Agile though (well fuck.. haha... Agile's second boss fight's cake anyway...). And against the Mav bosses.

Megaman 2 was the game that caught my attention for the series, as it was for most people, apparently. Sure, the music was kickass. Sure, the graphics blew away most others from the same time period. But what really got me hooked onto the game was the fact that you got to choose the stages you wanted to do AND get a new weapon out of it.

Speaking of weapons, the Metal Blade probably has to be my most favorite weapon in the series, EVAR. I used it ALL THE TIME, because it was capable of firing in eight directions, thus COMPLETELY RUINING THE SHIT out of everybody eight times as much as the Mega Buster. I was fucking up everybody left and right using it.

ALSO: It was energy efficient. You could fire it 112 times on a full bar of energy.

Megaman 2 is generally considered to be the last game where boss weapons were useful anywhere outside of fighting bosses. I have to disagree, though: I'd say that it would be X1.

Oh, Metal Blade, you lovable game-breaking gear. God, was there anything that wasn't weak to Metal Blade? Metal Man himself was weak to it! 2 hits, dead by his own weapon! We haven't had a weapon like it since, mostly because Capcom went "Oh damn, it's too good" and made sure to fix that problem later on. Now if they'd just do that with their fighting games...

It's downhill for X after X4 IMO. Noteworthy titles would be MM8 Jap version. The english dubbing blows. Megaman and Bass just for Bass being playable, and X4 my favorite among the X series. Grenade Man and Flash Bomb FTW!

Megaman and Bass was a side story after MM8.And unfortunately,it looks as though we will never see a Megaman 9 or a Megaman X9,due to reasons i listed elsewhere in this topic.

Metal Blade was awesome,a great all-purpose weapon.

The one that i thought of that can come close to it(but not quite) was the Parasitic Bomb in Megaman X3.

1. It works against Blizzard Buffalo.
2. ..and Vile's Goliath Ride Armor.
3. ...and Godkarmachine O Inary (Bit and Byte combined in Doppler's base).

Yes, Axl did debut in X7, even though it was slightly more frustrating than X6. I hopefully agree, the series after X4 started to go downhill.

There are different plot points that remained unanswered.

1. What happend to Dr. Cain? Why wasn't he featured in X5-Current?
2. What happened to Dynamo? He didn't die, that's for sure.
3. How did X and Zero go from working for themselves to doing Signa's dirty work?
As a Colonel ripoff, he has loads of questioning time.
4. Why wasn't there a Megaman X4.5 game? You know, the story where it answers all the questions in between X4 and X5, how X met Alia and her friends, and so forth. There's just alot of debate going on in that field....
