George Leonard says in his book "The Way of Aikido" that many times, people choose to be right over being happy.
While life doesn't always put you in a situation where you're limited to these two possible outcomes, if it did, which would you choose?
-
first of all, i think that each person has his/her own defenition of what happy is. second some people have no defenition of happy at all. while still others have no concept of happieness to begin with. therefore, without a unified defenition, it is fundamentally impossible to determine what happieness is to begin with.
-
I don't think someone would need a universal definition to consider what being happy means to them.
-
A balance of the two.
At times the mind can be extremely unstable, and when that happens, the mind will choose happiness:
"You're high on stress and low on health. Concentrate on yourself for now, then get back to the others."
I don't know if anyone gets what I mean, but yeah, that's my opinion. Both.
You need both.
-
I'd have to say it's a balance of both,also.
Say if i'm saving up some money to buy something...if i don't have enough money, i'm not exactly happy, but i really can't ask a friend or parent to bail me out all the time(and i try not to,i try to do it myself as often a spossible),so there's times when i have to do the right thing and wait longer until i have enough money.I may not be happy, but it's the 'right' thing to do.How will i learn how to get through life if everyone does everything for me?I have to do things for myself, that's how.
So,yeah,i think a balance of both is important.

Being right and being happy go hand-in-hand with me a lot of the time. Doing what's right feels good. It makes me happy. Though there will be times when I would be much happier not sticking my nose into stuff. So I don't, and I don't sweat it.
-
A mixture of the two. As long as I am right and happy, I can manage. However, there are instances that I am wrong and sometimes accept it. That's my opinion.
-
A balance is necessary for you can never always be right nor can you always be happy. But when push comes to shove being right is far more important in the end.

Being Right is based on perspective sometimes. But who cares, I like being happy regardless.
