Title: Tomb Raider: Legend
Post by: scarab on May 29, 2006, 04:35:17 pm
i just beat TR:L today.  'twas quite excellent.  probably the best of the whole tomb raider series.  nifty gagets and ducati cycles.  has anyone else tried this one?

I played the third one. I think it failed.  :bigtran

Is Legend similar at all?

Legend is nothing like Angel of Darkness.  The controls are much better with this new one.  If you about miss a ledge, sometimes Lara will grab on and you have to hit Triangle to get a better grip, then you can pull yourself up.  You can swing on vines or your grappling hook and when you jump off of an enemy, everything slows down so you can blast three or four enemies in a row.  Plus, they made Lara look a hell of a lot better.

I've never been a big fan of the Tomb Raider series, but found this installment to be rather enjoyable.  I kind of wish that there had been more action, but there's plenty of puzzles for players who like that kind of gameplay.  Lara's decent eye-candy, too.

Ive played most of the series and legend is definetly the most fun - my only dissapointment is the length of the game (completed it in about 7-8 hours) and difficulty compared to the others - especially the end boss

The first and second games were easily the best of the TR series.  Though Legend wasn't that bad either.

Two qualms:  The "bad grip" system was a pain in the ass, not an interesting new feature.  Sometimes it happened unpredictably or just at very inopportune moments causing more pain and frustration than such a simple system was worth.  After a while you just get an itchy over the finger that presses whatever you mapped the button to.

And the combat.. wasn't much of an improvement over the past games.  Found targetting just as clumsy as usual.  And was anyone else having trouble just making sure they were equipping/using/picking up the right weapon?

But Lara definitely did get a massive, much-needed improvement in the looks department =)

I did like the sword, though.
