Anyone else get this yet? Circuit City's got it for only $27.99.
This game is kicking some ass so far. Its like a mad mix of Super Mario World 1 and SMB1 put together. Its SMB1 with alot of the same old things (including the flag at the end of the stage) and alot of the same music (remixed of course) but with later additions like doors, vertical stages, chainlink climbing fences, etc. No Yoshi, no suits, no flying. Just mushrooms and fire flowers. Also SMW-like in the ability to control which stage to play next (and to go back to previous stages), and alternate exits to some stages that create different paths through the game. The 3D graphics look modern but with the retro gaming style, its all confusing me. And I keep wanting to attack my enemies from the front instead of jumping on them... gotta work on that.

sounds cool...i may have to pick this up when i get my next paycheck.
-
yeah, i was wondering when that was gonna come out. i saw a may release on yahoo's video game page, but i kept hearing other stuff too... thanks for letting me know! =D
of course, knowing the wal-mart near where i live (and now work at), they probably won't get it in until sometime next month... >_<;
-
What was it released for? I've actually not heard anything about it.
-
You need to get out more, Roomy.

I actually saw a commercial for it about half an hour after I posted and went "Oh, that's it".
-
well, i guess i should have more faith in the place that i work, because i was wrong - my wal-mart (which ISN'T a supercenter, mind you) DOES have it, right after the release date, too. i may be able to buy a copy tomorrow...
-
I got my copy on tuesday at a gamestop here in TX., If thaat helps anyone. I beat it a day and a half later. And todday I'm still trying for 100%..
-
well, i've got it now, and i've beat it, and i haven't got 100% either. but it's fun, although i believe they should've added more levels (and a little more diversity in them, although they did a good job with what was on there) and power-ups (i didn't really like the blue-shell thing or the tiny mushroom), and the bosses could've been a lot more difficult imo (*rapidly throws fireballs at bowser jr., then uses a mega-mushroom and sits on him the next time, lol*). i also thought the new whack-a-mole-style minigame was cool, too.

I don't own a DS.
Yet.

Don't feel too bad,so far I only have 2 games for my DS...
Castlevania- Dawn of Sorrow
Megaman Battle Network 5 Double Team (It has both of the GBA version of MMBN5 on it,and when you beat one version,it lets you mix up the members of both teams (Such as having Shadowman take Gyroman's place on Team Protoman. So far,i'm still playing through Team Protoman version.)
I'm interested in New Super Mario Bros.,plus later this year they have another Castlevania game being released for it. ^_^

Wait about 2 and half weeks and get a DS Lite. Thinner and lighter, longer battery life, a dust cover for the GBA port, mic moved to a more reasonable position for playing, ability to change screen brightness and contrast, start and select moved to better places (according to some, I like them where they are myself), to name a few enhancements.
Would have been nice to build in the rumble pack though.
New SMB = ok. Super Princess Peach = better.
Bonus: L+R+A at file select screen.
-
Princess Peach is better?!
But yeah, NSMB kicks some ass. I've gotten to world 5 and would definitely say it feels like it should have simply been called Super Mario Bros 4.
I remember reading threads at GameFAQ's, people were saying this could be the start of a "New" Supre Mario Bros series. And since this one is obviously like the original SMB, maybe the next "New" SMB will be based off of SMB2. That'd be sweet.
-
Yeah, SPP is better. The touchscreen really adds a new dimension to gameplay - touchpad in NSMB is hardly useful other than minigames and pulling up your reserve item. Plus, once you beat it, the game expands from 40 to 64 levels, and the older 40 levels have new things to find. It definately holds your excitment for twice as long as NSMB and doesn't have impossibly difficult stages (such as 4-A). I also give NSMB a knock for its branched world travel. I'm cool with warp pipes/whistles/cannons, but if you don't warp, then you should go in sequential order. Makes no sense whatsoever to end up at world 5 before 4, or 7 before 6, as most players end up doing.

I got the game and to be honest its pretty good heres my review
New Super Mario Bros.
Ok the name sounds excatly like its spelled anyway the plot
starts off as Mario and Peach are walking then a fire starts at the castle.
Mario then runs over to check out then baby bowser popps out and trys to take
peach he then jumps on marios head and then runs off with her....but not that type
of run off(if you know what I mean).
Anyway the game play is simple yet if you played Super Mario 64 or Mario Sunshine you'll
find out he's pick up some moves anyway heres list of moves he's picked up:Triple jump,
butt stomp,Jump off walls and can throw shells(actually that came off of Super Mario World)
He also has his basic jump and shoot fire balls. In the came you have 5 items the common
Super Star,Mushroom and Fire Flower, then you got the new items the huge mushroom,
mini mushroom and the blue koopa shell. The game plays like the old super mario bros yet
with news moves.
Graphic are all around good and the sounds are pretty much fine if you heard them.
Overall this game isn't some rehash it actually worth buying my score is 9.4 but if your
and old school mario fan that hasn't seen a good 2d game in years then 9.7.

... and can throw shells(actually that came off of Super Mario World)
Actually, that came off of Super Mario Bros. 3.
-
oooh DS ftw :D , i got new super mario brothers when I bought DS lite, very entertaining and the game still hasnt lost its flavor XD
-
Actually, that came off of Super Mario Bros. 3.
Nope, SMB2 was the first to have thrown shells.
-
I don't remember koopas making an appearence in SMB2. All that's being tossed around there are various vegetables and Subcon enemies, none of which is shelled.

Koopa's per se,didn't appear in SMB.2 (USA version that is),but you could find a turtle shell in the ground and throw it...i think he means that.
I still have Mario All Stars SNES...lol
