Title: Downtime
Post by: Hyperguy on April 17, 2006, 05:56:39 pm
Sorry for the temporary confusion.

Today we moved from one server to another.  Normally when something like this happens I try to keep it as transparent and gradual as possible, but if you were one of the unfortunates( poor Khris :( ) who didn't know what the hell was going on because random code started popping up in random places, take heart.  Most of the move's finished.  Things should start working again by the time you read this.  Things were going batshit insane for maybe 3 hours at most.  If you were posting during this time, your posts were overwritten when I reloaded a backup of the forum's database.

I hope this answers some questions some may have had.

Yeah, it was weird when posts of mine from a few days ago dissappeared. I thought I was going crazy or something.

Speaking of things being broken, did anyone have any problems posting yesterday?  I caught word that the database was disabled temporarily to alleviate some bottle necking that was going on on the new server.  It looks as though everything's back to normal now.

Edit: I think I spoke too soon.  I'm still getting lag when I post something.

It wasn't your database. hyperguy.net had no dns from at least 7pm to past 11pm est.

You're still having connection issues, too. Things will be fine for a minute or two, then gradually get worse for a few minutes until the site is unnavigable.  Then after a minute or too of timeouts, it'll be good again.

Just as an example, this is the third attempt at posting this message.

It wasn't me, I swear!

But on the bright side, it looks like things are finally back to normal. =D
