Title: SF Alpha 3 Double Upper [PSP]
Post by: Snorlax.RAYZR on March 14, 2006, 10:27:40 pm
Has anyone had the chance to play this yet?

I hear it's a perfect port of the arc//home version, but the only problem is the PSP's D-pad. I dunno, I'm getting a PSP in a week or two so I was just wondering if I should save up for Double Upper or MGAC!D (I have every MG game, save for the PSP ones).

It's probably not worth it. I haven't played the game, but I have tested out the PSP d-pad. Terrible stuff.

I think the only handheld that I've ever had a comfortable time playing a fighting game on has been the NEO*GEO Pocket Color.

While the concept of being able to whip out a copy of Street Fighter Alpha and play on the go is solid, I just don't see the PSP as a good handheld for fighters.  I've played Darkstalkers on it and am usually only able to perform special moves half of the time.

But, that's also because you have to adjust to the PSP's d-pad to do them.  I'd imagine with some practice you could learn to be proficient with it, just like how it takes practice to be able to do special moves on other handhelds like the Gameboy.

I'd go with Metal Gear AC!D as a starter PSP title, and get Alpha after becoming accustomed to the PSP.

I see, thanks for the advice.

So what makes the PSP's D-Pad so horrible? It's not like the PS2's at all? To hard? Too soft?

Is it really impossible to play? Or would I -really-, like you say, get used to it after a while? I'm hella not modding the d-pad, haha. How's the analog? Lalz!

Or you could realise that portables are stupid and a waste of money.

I hate them all.

Seriously, if I wanna play a GBA game badly, I just emulate it :P

I heard Yun is playable in Double Upper. Is it true?

Yeah, just like in the SFA3 for GBA.

I'm not sure how he plays though, I think he plays like in New Generations.
eagle and Maki play like their CvS2 counterparts I'm guessing. Actually, I think Yun plays the same, too. Capcom's lazy, they wouldn't change anything with Yun.

I vote no for handhelds, but I could use a PSP. Cause of MGA.

It's rather difficult to perform diagonals on, so say you needed to do a dragon punch, you'd need to buffer in the motion a few extra times in order to do one.  It's also kind of hard, and not to mention, small.  It's okay for nonfighting games, but I wouldn't want to use it for competitive play.  I haven't used the analog stick add on, though I'd imagine it's better than the D-pad.

Yeah, so I played it. I think I see why people are having trouble playing, but I can perform the moves normally and it doesn't really bother me.

If I'm getting it, it's only to play against others. Does anyone know if the WiFi is any good? No lag, yo?

Capcom, where's your sense of true marketing? At least make it for the newer systems so we can enjoy the classics once more. I am STILL searching for my copy of SFA3 For dreamcast. That was a FUN RIDE!!

Here's another way to play GBA Games without using an emulator. A while back, there was a machine that attaches to your gamecube that allows you to play GBA games. All you need now, is a GBA game. Super fun.
