Where my Mega Man fans at? Original series or the more dark and awesome X?
I enjoy X, personally. Because you're basically killing metallic furries. How awesome is that?
Anyway, I'm going to be recording some runs this week and putting them on YouTube, maybe we could all sort of compare strategies or whatever?
Also because this is Mega Man, a moment of tribute to IG13.
1. Mega Man

AAHAHAHAHAHAHA XD
I liked MegaMan better than X. Granted the X-series allowed me to basically break the game by grabbing power-ups then intentionally flinging X into pits and things to make him ungodly powerful before ever completing a boss stage...but yeah. I liked regular MegaMan better because
1: All the plot is in the instruction manual
2: No emo X
3: Ridiculous boss names and weaknesses (Metal Man)
4: Ride a flying dog skateboard
5: Is Roll loli? =\
6: A stwange meteow has fawwen to Eawf just a whiwe ago.
7: Protoman/Blues.
8: Wily's Manly Eyebrow Wiggle.

comparison tiems:
X had:
1. awesome powers
2. walljump ftw?
3. the ability (as posted above) to become re-fuckulously powerful before fighting any bosses.
4. awesome soundtrack
Original had:
1. the completely wierd powers. (leaf shield wtf? srsly)
2. the awesome helmet
3. those dissapearing platforms that screwed me over sooo many times.
EDIT: for me X wins, because that's how I made about all of my friends 1st through 5th grade, by playing X1 with them.
and you all forgettings mega man soccer??!?!!
so dumb it was awesome.
4. the random sakugarne thing, which was liek "all jackhammer/pogostick of dooom" thing.
5. all those health refills you REALLY needed, but on the other side of giant spikes.

Original Mega Man for the block and the win.
I find the whole Mega Man I backstory fascinating. Scientist creates a series of service droids (and keeps a pair as household maids), humanity hails him as genius, assistant feels he's not getting the credit he deserves, assistant reprograms droids to do his bidding, one of the household bots chooses to do good, puts on a helmet, and busts out the door to save the world. X gives you, well.. "malfunctioning" robots that mutiny. No comparison story-wise.
Plus, Mega Man I was absolutely amazing for its time, and challenging without being overly so. And II was hands down the best game on the NES until SMB3 came along. (Quickly went downhill beginning at III though.) MM1 and MM2 pushed the technical barriers of the NES, and added alot of innovative game elements not present at the time. X didn't add anything new to the genre.

What was with that random "da-da" noise the old games made when mega man came down after jumping? Anyone know what I's talking about?
-
His feet hitting the ground.
-
Well I know that, but why does his feet go "da-da"? Does he have musical socks?
(he would get +10 rep if he did)
-
Not just the old games. X does it, too.
Alot of the old characters have audible jumps (remember, Mario has a spring in a step, too.)
-
so the old games were in cahoots with the makers of musical socks, eh? sounds a little bit too red for my liking. Eh, COMRADE?
-
Loved the X-series up to X4, after that it just became a joke.
-
I didn't think X5 was especially bad, just a little copy and paste, and X8 was pretty good.
3: Ridiculous boss names and weaknesses (Metal Man)
The X series had some pretty silly names too, like Overdrive Ostrich and Cyber Peacock
-
Classic and X series for me. BTW has anyone found a link to DL the ISO of the Japanese Rockman 8 game for Saturn? Been looking forever and couldn't find anything :(

In case you haven't heard, Capcom announced Mega Man 9 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mega_Man_9) as a downloadable game for all three current generation consoles. Its got the classic graphics (thank goodness) and eight robot masters with names were used to seeing (like Concrete Man.) Capcom's also finally made it to the 21st century and introduced the first female-oriented robot master: Splash Woman. (Don't ask what would happen if she and Wave Man got together.)
That's my plug, man.
-
Good news! Been waiting for a long time, man.
-
That's cool to see Capcom offering up MM9 for download. Anybody know what the X series is up to? I haven't paid attention since X7.

Weeping softly in a corner about the death of zero-again. That and naming bosses awkward things. Like "Abortion man". (whoooo gets it?)

It's up to X8, which was alot better than X7..... alot better.
-
Anybody played MM9 yet? It's utterly refreshing to play a bare bones MM game without the BS (complex story, NPCs, hub).
-
Played the demo. It's refreshing to see a game that's actually difficult.

its beyond difficult
its omfg..... i know i have not played an 8bit megaman in probley 5 years but...how the sam fucking hell did I die 4 times in the first 1/4th of the first level?!
-
True. The game is very difficult, but there's enough to pad the game's difficulty. The four easiest bosses are on the four corners, so i recommend taking them down first.
-
I couldn't even get to the boss in the demo.
and like... hey i feel you guys... you know, you pro-mm players that used to beat Mega Man 2 and 3 in like 30 minutes and gloat over guys like me who couldn't even get past Bubble Man's level... but this is taking it too far.
You say padding like "story" and other BS but... I mean... is that all mega man is? Hardcore grinding difficulty and a complete lack of anything else?
Granted I will admit that every single Mega Man game that came out after Mega Man X3 (did Rockman and Forte come out after X3 or before I don't recall?... I think before) is complete and utter shit but that's not because of lack of difficulty and "too much" story!
It's because the levels are poorly designed, neither difficult or easy, simply boring and unintuitive, and the story is a gnarly piece of shit!
We can't go back to the NES days... I mean maybe for the graphics i'll admit fucking Mega Man 9 (which replaces R&F unfortunately in storyline canon =/) is a fucking gorgeous diamond I just wanna have sex with the MM sprites deamn.
but NES days developers created levels and games with archaic tools! We should expect and demand utmost in level design!! not just say "make it hard who cares about the level itself" bah...
bah whatever... i know nobody else ever agrees with me that's why MM9 is selling on the VLC/XBL/PS Store like hotcakes... I remember when i was a kid I used to want to be a game developer... fuck if I ever did my games would all tank I'm always so out of touch with the real gamers...

X8 was better than X7 in my opinion..though I had to endure playing X8 using a keyboard =P.
