Post the clean versions of your desktops. Nobody wants to see your icons.

He did say post your desktop, rather than your desktop wallpaper.  Otherwise how can we start flame wars about what software and operating system everyone is running without anyone having to specifically ask?  Here's my wallpaper, made with my awesome lasso and slider skills in Photoshop.

My desktop (http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/8397/desktopvl1.jpg).  Image is split as I have two backgrounds for the dual-screen setup.

But if we don't have the clean version how can you expect others to use the images for their desktops? I'd use that one you posted if the lime green in the background wasn't so eye-killing.

Here, heres the WALLPAPER I use on my DESKTOP. If I recall theres a wallpaper thread somewhere on the board, so this one was different, but I guess we can just have two because obviously any protest made towards you will wind up with a deleted post. Not hard to say "Requesting wallpaper please!"

So heres my wallpaper, I fully expect the rest of the post to be wiped because someone gets butthurt.

The green isn't as bad as it looks once it's actually on the desktop, though I mostly did that because that's what the picture's default background was, and I didn't feel like taking the time to dig the girls out of it.  When I'm feeling ambitious I might make it in a different color.

This is my desktop:

Those icons on the left are shortcuts for Schoolmate, Artificial Girl 3, and a few other things.  There's also my Projects folder there, which is where I put all of the projects I'm working on like the website and such.

Oh Bill,  you're so silly. If people post the clean versions of their wallpapers right away, it saves me the trouble of having to type stuff like:

Hyperguy, clean version of the Windows 2K-tan wallpaper please.

Besides, who cares about icons on the desktop? I don't give a shit what shortcuts you people use daily. To me, it's a sin to put icons on a desktop. You put the wallpaper on it so you'll have something awesome to look at; why spoil it with icons that just get in the way?
Title: Re: Desktops
Post by: Hyperguy on January 03, 2008, 01:38:11 am
Because binding everything to a shortcut is just not an option.

I mean, when I wanna open up CDisplay I'll be all like CTRL + ALT + D because I've got it setup to do that in it's properties tab, but for something like a 'flavor of the month' program it's much easier to just put it on the desktop.

And icons really are the meat of desktop thread discussions aside from the wallpapers themselves.  It's the same concept as looking into someone's room; icons reveal people's interests as much as a shelf full of action figures do.

Here's the WP from my desktoop:

I'm gonna go with HG here- this is a Desktop thread not a wallpaper thread, and thus the point is to post your desktop - with taskbar, icons, systray, and wallpaper intact.  It's fun to see how different people work.  Do you keep a desktop with 2 icons and most of the systray hidden, or do you let every program pour icons onto the desktop and never clean them off?  What music player do you use?  What OS?

What can I say, I'm easily amused.  Jingle car keys in front of me and I start jumping up and down.  It's a fact!

My desktop is identical to my wallpaper. The taskbar stays hidden until I want it, the icons stay hidden forever. I already explained my point of view on this; I didn't get the image because I wanted to see how it'd look with lots of tiny icons stacked on top of it.

HAH!  You haven't seen my desktop yet.

I go through phases.  I let it pile up to fill 2/3 of the screen, and then I clean up 99% of them.  Usually by dragging them into a folder marked something like "Desktop 2" "Desktop 007" or "Desktop <n>" etc.

sometimes I mark the folder names angrily "PLEASE CLEAN UP THIS FOLDER DAMNIT" I have like three of those in My Documents somewhere....

Anyways, am I the only one on this forum that has a real life chick on his desktop? @.@  I feel so... estranged... so... so lonely @.@

And ROMmate, you got a desktop image because you wanted a picture to ornament and decorate your functional tool, the desktop.  The desktop is a computer utility, it serves a purpose beyond decoration.  The fact that it can also be decorated is a secondary feature, not its purpose.  Just because you use it for something other than what it's made for, does not mean the rest of the world follows suit.

also I have lots of porn files littered across my desktop.  I should probably hide those in case somebody walks by and sees the folder "INVASION OF THE BOOBY SNATCHERS" et. al.

Elisha Cuthbert was on my desktop for 3 months, and the SCIENCE! image was too funny to ignore.

And the rest of the world SHOULD follow my lead, seeing as I'm simply too awesome to ignore.

I have the default XP "Bliss" wallpaper and have no real intent to change.

I find PC wallpapers to be near useless, just pretty pictures to look at when the computer first boots or during lock mode before the screen saver kicks in.  Real computer users will lose sight of the desktop once they kick off their email client, web browser, or productivity app of choice.

Here's mine:

As you can see, the programs I use most often are at the top, and I usually put important documents I edit or access often to the side.  I also like to keep my taskbar hidden.

I tend to just take pictures I like and use them as Wallpapers rather than using ones that are the correct size, if you wish to resize and/or make a proper wallpaper out of it feel free.  Here is a .rar file with all my Wallpapers in it (including the one above).  Feel free to dl it.  It's kinda big though.

All lies.  The desktop is rediscovered by the real real computer users when they have their epiphany and become born-again Windows key users.  Specifically the Windows key + D key combination.  Who needs the start menu when a single keystroke combination brings me all my most frequently used documents and programs squeezed between Matsugane-sama's wonderful breasts.

Yes, I place the icons in her cleavage.  For warmth.

PROTIP: click for full size

EVEN MORE LIES!  That wasn't a protip, perhaps an amateurtip.  At best an intermediatetip.  Although really I shall call it a contip.

One of my favorite things is to screencap a person's desktop, save it as an image, load it up as the desktop, then hide the icons. Otherwise, altering the original image in some subtle way, then leaving it there for the user to later discover is somwhat tamer fun.
