Title: Viper F40 question
Post by: Snorlax.RAYZR on September 24, 2007, 01:32:09 pm
Hey, I found a CD with F40 in it and I started to play it again.

I wanted to know: At some point, Raika's boss shows up with a briefcase with money in it (after her assistant [Shira?] gets kidnapped). What's it for?

And I don't get the ending. Shira's doctor was some freaky scientist dude who stuck a bunch of bald dudes in a dark room? If someone could explain the story I'd appreciate, thanks.

F40 is a very good story but its a ten-fold tragedy.

... is F40 in english version possible?
Not at present or for the foreseeable future.  F40 has a lot of text (maybe the most of all VIPER games) so it would be very difficult to translate compared to the shorter V series games.

I see. Thanks for the info dude.

One more, what happens to that Mark dude? Or what's his role?

He breaks up with Lilia after they're raped, which definately does not help her state of mind.  She seems to recover quite a bit by the end though.

I've not yet translated the part where he breaks up with her though, so I'm not sure of his reasoning why.  I suspect it has something to do with seeing her as "unfit" now - as she's not a virgin anymore.

What an ass. xD
And what's the gunshot for? I just thought he quit or something.

Didn't he commit suicide?  It's been at least 3 years since I've played F40 so I don't remember clearly. :O

I always thought someone died in that scene cause of the gunshot sfx. After playing through it again though I noticed he dropped his gun holster (along with the gun in it) on the ground.

Maybe he did.  Its been at least 6 or 7 years since I've played F40 all the way through.  Seems like something I would have remembered though.

Wow, this sure has been years since the last reply.

Nonetheless, I just played through this and thought I'd share in case someone was curious. Mark (Lilia's BF) was indeed dead, killed by Lilia herself (which is why near the end scene Raika confronted her). The reason is because Mark said he didn't actually love her and apologized for failing to protect her (might have something to do with him being a spy - she might have just been intended as part of his cover). He left, which caused Lilia to snap and shot him.

So I recently got to play this game but since I don't know much Japanese, I was wondering if anyone know some plot related translation works out there for this title. Anyone?

Did Hyperguy ever do a plot summary for this game? Those were really funny.

There is no translation effort underway for F40.  Its a very long game with lots of text so its difficult to trranslate, and the game is linear so a translation is not needed to follow the major plot lines.

You could grab the text from here (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/forum/index.php?topic=3132.0) and run it through a translator program (like Google Translate (http://translate.google.com/)) to get rough translations.  Might also find some answers here (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/forum/index.php?topic=3004.0).

Hyperguy's "summary" was an inside joke.  Maybe he's still got the HTML and images and can share it with us again.

Thanks Guys, and thanks for the script JG.

I tired the google translation and, sure enough, it cannot be relied upon! Seems like it translate word for word but can't do phrases very well. Therefore I hardly got anything useful from the stuff I put in it. Should've took more Japanese courses when I had the chance lol

Actually one thing I really wanted to know, if what happened to Saki. What's her background and how did she get tossed into the dungeon? I read on the other thread JG mentioned here, by guessing, shes the kidnapper gang's leader and that by crossing Fauzen and indirectly killing her daughter she got put away for good. So then what's the relationship between Saki and Fauzen, and possible Raika if related to the former two? Anyone care to give a brief explanation if possible?

I've never translated it enough to be sure of the exact reasons, but you're on the right track that Saki's "carelessness" in how she abducted test subjects did her in.

As I understand it, Fauzen has got either his money or his reputation (or both) tied up in the whole abduction scam that's being run by the doctor, and can't get himself out of it, so he uses his role as head of RUF to cover it up.  The doctor needs test specimens, so he hires some thugs (Saki & crew) to find people that no one will miss.  Lilia's investigation starts with three of the missing persons.  Saki and her cohorts start to get out of control (maybe not getting the money they thought they were due?) and punish Fauzen by raping his daughter.  When Lilia's investigation gets too close, they get her, too.  Raika finally comes across the truth, finds out Fauzen's connection, and he has her put in the dungeon and raped by test specimens before Loid finds her.

Fauzen is head of RiskyUnitedFixer (RUF), a special detective task force within the police department.  Lilia and Loid still work for RUF, but Raika quit sometime back after a disagreement with Fauzen.  Seela wants to work for RUF but Fauzen won't let her (either to protect her safety, is too young, or her heart condition makes her unsuitable in his eyes), so she goes to work for Raika instead.

Thanks for explaining that boss! I have a better general idea now. So then, did Saki get punished for targeting the wrong people by being sent to the dungeon and gets raped?

Didn't know there were characters that shared a name in the Viper universe (speaking of Saki here).

Any others?

You didn't know that already?

Well I'm gonna blow you're mind and tell you there's three of them.

(http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/images/thumbnails/characters/rise/saki_active.jpg) (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/images/thumbnails/characters/f40/saki_active.jpg) (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/images/thumbnails/characters/rear_under/saki_active.jpg)
Saki, Saki, or Saki?

Also...

(http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/images/thumbnails/characters/guynarock/meg_active.jpg) (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/images/thumbnails/characters/m5/meg_active.jpg)
Meg, or Meg?

And...

(http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/images/thumbnails/characters/childrens_play/yuki_active.jpg) (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/images/thumbnails/characters/m3/yuki_active.jpg)
Yuki, or Yuki?

As well as...

There's a Ryu in Demon's Night and a Ryuu in F40. They're spelled the same in Japanese version (リュウ), but differently in English material.

There's also a Boss in Rear Under and a Boss in Komachikawa.  And Seed was also Boss in V16, before they gave him a name in GTB.

There's an announcer in both GTB and Alien War.

Reserve and M5 also share alot of creature names (like Cyclops and Doppelganger)

Likewise, both Rear Under and GT1 have a Tentacle Plant.

There's a Koumori (bat) in Reserve and Koumori-donar in F50.

And as a non-canon stretch there's an Akira in a Northern Lights story in one of the V series doujinshi that isn't the same Akira we know from V16.

Not to mention all the generic names (like Classmate, Boy, Girl, etc) that multiple characters share, even within the same game.
