how can I get sound files from the viper games? I was just wondering if anyone knew how to do this or have done it before
-
well.. first you gotta extract the PCM files from the SGS.DAT archive
then either convert or open the PCM files in an audio editor such as Adobe Audtion
Its a raw audio format
Settings:
22050Hz, 16-bit, Mono
Byte Order: Intel
Above is from ViperRSR, might be different from previous versions
-
Give this (http://www.jonathandgriffith.com/files/forum/sgspcme.zip) a try. It'll convert the compressed .PCM files into standard .WAV files
-
I tried everything today.
The converter, which managed some games to convert. Audacity and Audition which totally failed to convert, even when I tried to recreate the ones that the converter did.
Allway only shrieking sounds, and even the converted ones have this shrieking some times in it as well.
No success today.
Does anybody still have the audio files or can help me convert them?
I have all the .pcm files.
-
Just use CamStudio to record audio directly from the game, well, your computer's processor to be more precise.
-
I will try that, thanks.
But there is mostly a background sound which I can't mute.
If I try to lower it, it also lowers the voice.
Is there a way to work around it?
I only want the voice sounds, without the background music.
-
There should be an option in the top menu bar, usually denoted by S (sound), V (voice), and M (music).
-
Yes, with newer games you can seperatly change them
The older ones have Voice and Mix
SO basicly you can switch off voice or tune down both.
-
You could delete the background music files (or better yet replace with 1 second silent wav files so it doesn't complain about missing files)
-
I got the games from this post:
http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/forum/index.php?topic=3338.msg32160#msg32160
They often start direct from the image file.
Well I try to install them and use your advice with the empty wave files and just try to record them off the screen.
It would just be easier and less work if I could just convert the pcm files correctly into wave files.
There are the voices seperated from everything else and are split for each scene.
But even with the SGSPCMe converter, a lot of files have high pitched noises in it. Only a few older games are able to convert, but still have some of the noises in it. All the other games only convert the pcm into pure high pitched noises, like you go over a blackboard with your fingernails.

Try DecomposeSGS from the other thread (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/forum/index.php?topic=263.msg32787#msg32787).

All sounds are extracted perfectly.
Only BTR and M3 3.2 are missing, but there aren't any SGS files and decomposeSGS don't have a field for them anyway.
Now I have to assign the voice samples to the characters, which will take some time xD but after that, the fun begins!

For M3, you might be able to get somewhere with AGSDAT (http://www.jonathandgriffith.com/files/forum/agsdat.zip). They switched to a newer engine for M3, which was later used by Erogos for their games (like the Love Fetish and IN series)
There's also a tool called ANIPlayer for AGS type files, but it seems the homepage may be down. Let me know if AGSDAT doesn't work to extract the sound files, and I'll zip up my copy of ANIPlayer.
BTR is PC98 only, and (with exception of CTR) they all use a pre-SGS system. No ones cracked the file formats for these yet. Would be excellent if someone did though so we could finally port BTR to Windows.
