Title: Requesting RSR translation.
Post by: white33 on May 16, 2007, 01:31:24 pm
Hi there.

A while ago in the old RSR thread there were a few posts on translated RSR sex scenes, but then it sort of died out...

I´m still interested in seeing the translations for all RSR scenes, so, as unfortunately i can´t yet speak japanese, i´m requesting it; Can someone please post the translations here?(not the crappy babelfish stuff though...)

Thanks!!!

There's way too much text in RSR for any of us here to attempt it.  We'd need a natural Japanese speaker here to do that amount of effort.

Where could i at least get a full scripted japanese text of RSR?

Hey guys... just thought i'd let you guys know.. how far i am on the translation right now.....    im still VERY, VERY, VERY FAR from the end!!! .... there

lol

Here's a patcher i made... it changes a few things in the game.
Download Patch (http://www.ninjahanzo.com/ViperFiles/uploads/ViperRSR-EngPatch.exe)

-Changes most of the names (had to abbreavate some names thou, like Elder=Eldr; King=Kg, Skeleton Bird=SklBrd, Maranello=Maranelo)
-Some dialogue changed, 2 lines at new game, 3 lines at H-scene01 , Line 03 of H-Scene 09
-Changed first 2 audio lines [start new game]   (I think it sounds kinda funny)

Note: This patch changes the SGS.DAT file... so you have to copy the game on to your harddrive.. for now
And you need a No-DVD patcher for Viper RSR

Screenshot... The image might be too big...

Does this mean that you have solved the format of .WIN files?  If so, please share your notes and insight.  Being able to decode the .WIN file format, modify it, and encode it back to a workable state would do much to make translations of all VIPER games possible.

lol... oh.. I thought i wasn't the only one who knew this
But.. i would gladly share any info i have, to see these whole series in english..
The WIN files are in the Japanese Shift-JIS encoding....
Just open them up Wordpad or Notepad through AppLocale ! And just open any of the WIN files
You need to install the Japanese Languages on your computer and AppLocale (if your computer is english, like mine)
As far as i can tell.. there's no encoding of any kind, other than Character Encoding

I wouldnt suggest changing the texts in the Word Editors itself..
since a Shift-JIS character takes up 2 bits (2 Hex Bytes)
and an English letter takes up 1 bit (1 Hex Byte)
this would change the file size of the whole WIN file
Right now, just hex edit the english characters into the SGS.DAT

in hex workshop you can see the quote as ".u"  and ".v"  in that screenshot above
thats Shift-JIS Encoding for the open and close quotes, respectively

".u" = 「
".v" = 」
".y" = 【
".z" = 】

Im just hex editing the SGS.DAT directly
If you edit something wrong.. the game will just close

Im also looking for a good program to extract and repack files into SGS.DAT
I found one... but when i repacked it... it added an extra byte or something.. it changed the filesize by a few bytes i think..
and it didnt work... i needed something like this that actually works.. so i can test if you add extra bytes.. if it would crash the game

On another note: I've translated 70% of the H-Scenes so far

Oh, I was under the impression you were doing more than simple character replacement, such as being able changing the length of strings, identifying marker bytes, etc.  I thought for sure I'd been looking for Shift-JIS before, but I may have been looking at the earlier games, maybe they use something else altogether whereas later games like RSR do use Shift-JIS.  (I went back and double checked - yep, the older ones are Shift-JIS too but seem to be encoded a little differently such that the text is harder to pick up in a text editor.  You can see a word or two then it loses the stream. Probably indicates spacing, punctuation and whatnot aren't encoded in regular Shift-JIS.)

My Unpack/Repack program from the Tools thread (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/forum/index.php?topic=263.0) is the best you're going to find for modifying the SGS file.  I am certain that if the file size increases, the SGS.DAT will still work, so long as the files themselves are not changed. (For example, you could stick an extra .ANM file somewhere in the SGS.DAT and it should still work, but if you modify a file it might not work, if you delete a file it'll only work up to the point that the file is used in the game, and obviously it also won't work if you have two files with the same name.)  My program's primary goal was to correct the extra-byte issue in the Guynarock SGS.DAT file so its frames could be extracted with Grapholic.  It was not designed with editing the files in mind but its not keeping you from doing so if you obey the laws.

If you do find anything more revealing in your research, please post it here.

Hi, I decided to look at the WIN files of the game...
And i was quite surprised that what format it was in,
VIPER RSR is based entirely on the WIN Scripts, (not sure im explaining this right)
As the EXEs are very small and uncompressed
RSR.EXE - The Game Launcher - 240 KBs
SGS.EXE - The Game Engine - 104 KBs
usually game EXEs are about 1-4 MBs average
so it relies heavily on the WIN scripts, to tell it what to do

SGS.EXE - i'd say is a form of an Interpreter, without the scripts (WIN files), its nothing .. lol
WIN and PCM files are uncompressed.
Only compressed files i see are the ANM, and im trying to figure out what type of compression it uses...
SGS.EXE is the Brains, WIN is the Heart, PCM is the Mouth, and ANM is the eyes? and SGS.DAT is the Body (that holds it all)

I had about an hour or 2 to look over the START.WIN script file
And this is what I came up with so far..

I also made a Start.WIN that loads the Start Menu right away... skipping all the introduction screens (which annoyed the hell outta me)
This is just an early draft of my notes... when i can research it abit more... I'll refine my notes and post more later on

This is fantastic stuff BlackShadowz.  If I get the chance this weekend, I'd like to take some of this information and write a program to extract everything in a .WIN file to a text-based format, and then back into a .WIN file so we can edit these babies easier.

Yeah, that would be pretty cool...
I'll look more into the scripts tonight and see what other codes i can find
Just remember that these are my interpretations , and that some may be right, some may require a cleaning/fixing, and some may be dead wrong

Best way to find out is try to see if the same codes appear in other VIPER game's .WIN files where you expect them to be.

Post by: 黒い灯影 on July 12, 2007, 11:43:55 pm
yeah..thats a good idea.. i need to get a hold of the other Viper Games.. that would probably help alot
If they didnt change their Interpreter(which I think is highly unlikely)... i just compared two different SGS.EXE files
RSR's and GTS's...  they were the same size.. but relatively the same.. ASM programming-wise

Their Interpreter did change, I guess it would have to do with the developing of the scripting language
Not change, but more specifically updated, but i guess a few script codes could've changed

The RSR "SGS.EXE NoLauncher" patch should theoretically work with other SGS.EXE's
Works with most recent SGS.EXEs only
and must be 104 KBs

Question:
What format are the games on this site's store in?

i got the answer, now .. thanks HG

After the uncompressing the WIN files with Grapholic...

Wait whut?  WIN isn't an image type file, doesn't Grapholic bomb when it tries to process a WIN file?
Title: Re: Requesting RSR translation.

It uncompresses everything in the SGS.DAT, when you "explore" the SGS.DAT (when you open up the SGS.DAT)
If the Entry is listed as a compressed file, within the DAT's Filelist...

anyways, Did you get that PM i sent ya?

then I realized i was clicking on a picture..  HAH!.. oh god, im a going crazy?.. im tired

Notes Updated
Anyways... Just posted the more updated version of my notes
They should be even more accurate now... BOOYAH!! Take that you japanese Sogna Programmers!!!

Hyperguy,
Do you mind if I move my notes to a new topic?
They are getting a bitch to edit each time... they are growing in size, and tend to overwrite my other notes i didnt want to...

Hyperguy,
Do you mind if I move my notes to a new topic?
They are getting a bitch to edit each time... they are growing in size, and tend to overwrite my other notes i didnt want to...
Go for it.  With notes so extensive, a new topic would be ideal.

Name Input Command?

I've never seen this before, which changes the name in the Registry Entry....
very weird,  has anyone see this before, while playing ViperRSR?

I had run across it before looking at the binary but I didn't think there was a way to access that code - I thought it was just leftover debug junk.

Post by: 黒い灯影 on July 16, 2007, 06:55:34 pm
As far as I know.. it serves no purpose other than to change the Name entry in the Registry....
then again.. I only just came across it.. and just made a note of it.. and the code..  not sure how long the code it... but I saved the file that activates it
I was gonna look into it after.... but i still have alot of decoding to do

RSR was all about RPG parody, and they likely wanted to include a "name the main character feature" like the quintessential RPGs. Voice acting probably put the kabosh on that idea.

Post by: 黒い灯影 on July 17, 2007, 09:47:00 pm
hmmm... Thou references to Name Input are evident in GTS, V6R, V8 and RSR... those are the only ones I checked that had references to it
V16Imagine.. however did not
So its not limited to RSR.... still got no idea
