Title: The Congress of Awesome CCG
Post by: tetsaru arigashi on May 09, 2007, 11:38:36 pm
"So what we have a CCG based on the Congress of Awesome?  AWESOME!"

bfg00 gave me an interesting idea with his post in the "we have girlfriends" thread, sooo....

Go here:  http://magicseteditor.sourceforge.net/welcome (http://magicseteditor.sourceforge.net/welcome)

Then, make one of these:

I'm curious to see what we can come up with.  =D

Shhh! Don't usher in MTG style cards when I'm already working on an original prototype! D:

Well if you got something then give us a hint at least.

Heh, were it the real Magic game, you'd have no specific color and you couldn't cast yourself without a mana cost or alternate means of play!  So, to type mana symbols, use W for white, U for blue, B for black, R for red, G for green, and any digits for colorless mana costs (X, Y, and Z can be used for variable costs).  You can also use S for snow mana, and T for the tap symbol.  For hybrid mana (like the ones on my card), type a slash between the two different colors you want.  I believe you can also use the right-click menu to access most of these, including the half-mana symbols used in the Unhinged series.  And if you're still seeing just the capital letters, highlight them and click on the symbols button (it has a star on it).

Try looking at some authentic Magic cards to get an idea of how everything is set up.  I came up with some humorous twists on two mechanics used in the game (affinity and protection).

Sorry man, just using what I thought would work best!  >_<;  Would you rather me do a Yugioh format??  Enlighten us a bit here!

No Yu-Gi-Oh. No MtG. I don't want this place associated with either game.

Sooo... how exactly do we do that using this program??  Magic and Yugioh are the templates of the program - there's not much getting around that.  Without the use of these specific frames, the thread's theme becomes meaningless - it just turns into another "post pictures of yourself" thread.  Please elaborate.

I just finished a layout for a set of forum based joke cards.  Interestingly enough, based on what I know about forums and posting styles in general, I could probably make a set of mechanics for them so they actually worked like a real card game.  I've already got a bit of ideas for it already, but in the meantime, this is the layout I came up with:

I made the image window 120 by 120 so that I can fit in avatars and made the overall layout resemble a forum post.  I still haven't added texture or color because I'm still messing around with fonts and layout.

I guess this is a bad time to say that I've gotten into Yugioh again in the form of Yugioh World Championship 2007 for the Nintendo DS.  I've gotta say, the paper card game's a waste of money; buying a game that allows you to collect all of the cards, trade cards, and duel wirelessly makes much more sense.

Hyper has to hurry up and post details about this supposed prototype u.u

I'm still wondering how this initiative stuff works.

What I just posted are the details.  Initiative's just something I made up in that thread because I couldn't think up any other kind of posting advantage.  Initiative's used in D&D to determine who attacks first, so by parallel it'd determine who posts first.  I don't play or even like D&D very much, but like mechanics, so I threw it in there to sound witty.

Heh.  Any time communism is uttered, Bang Doll gets posting advantage. X_x

If that was an actual card, you could probably chain it into some sort of combo with communism themed cards. =o

God bless Photoshop, which HG has used to create a card for the forum.

True that.

Looks good so far.  I look forward to later developments.

Definitely. Rationality caught up to me when there were pretty much an unending series' of cards being pumped out. I think that was after the 3rd series of the Pokemon cards came out...

When all cards of a series have been collected, use 300 money counters and search deck for [Knowledge of the New Series] and [Pain in the Ass] cards. Play both immediately.

True, it IS hard on the wallet, but I still enjoy the hobby of collecting them, as well as deckbuilding (even though you can also do that on the video game).  Playing and trading in events is also a good social interaction for me.  =D

Sooo, I guess in order to make a card, I'd have to save your template .jpg image here, and then Photoshop it??  Perhaps there's a way to make a forum code for this, similar to that Nanako symbol you guys made...?  Might make it more convenient for those who don't have Photoshop.  =/

Nah, I'd at least provide a PSD file.  That's the thing though.  It's not even finished.  The gray boxes at most represent where everything's going to be layed out--It still lacks colors, graphics, etc.  I'll probably make it's color scheme resemble the forum's if I don't come up with something better.  To answer your question, yes, we could make them into emoticons.

Also, get Photoshop.  It's the best program ever made.

laid.

And fuck Photoshop.  Get the GIMP, unless you're a commie in which case NOBODY CARES WHAT YOU USE, YOU RED BASTARD.

I used to be into card games.  Card games in games is just silly.  Have the reason to get cards is the nifty artwork on them.  NIFTY.  Or not, whatever, like I said I was never into card games.

Though my Spike deck behind me from MTG Stronghold is still one of my faves.  Not counting this weird starter kit box filled with four random decks which I bought off some senior at my high school when I was a sophomore for like thirty bucks.

Thirty bucks!  And there were actually rares in there!  Gold cards!  I was like "wtf".

They were probably forged.  Neat art, though.
