Title: Memorable Topics of 2006 and beyond!
Post by: Hyperguy on February 22, 2007, 01:49:06 pm
I've got to say, my favorite thread of all time has got to be...

This one:

FUCKING VOLTRON THREAD OF ULTIMATE WIN (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/forum/index.php?topic=1047.0)

We've had some really awesome legitimate threads here at the Congress of Awesome, but this particular one where heirophant flew off the handle and incited HMD to turn it into a Voltron fan thread ranks high on my list of entertaining threads, so much so that if we were ever to make a 'Best of Congress of Awesome' threadlist, I'd be sure to include it.

ROMate's "Good Cosplay Only" was totally fappable, and a great thread.

I like An Epic Tale of Tragedy and Destruction as seen here:

So very epic.

I would nominate this thread (http://www.talkingarm.com/forum/index.php?topic=19.0) or this one (http://www.talkingarm.com/forum/index.php?topic=20.0), had they happened at this board. But they didn't, so I won't.

There's also the 2,582,468 (approximate figure) threads importgamer13 started. Sure, many of them were lacking in cohesion and content, but the sheer number should count for something.

also the thread where yuka takeuchi fan blamed the problems in his life on 4chan was the funniest thing ever and should win in a landslide

Hey, why is there only an award being given to the best thread? Why not ones for like, say:

Best Poster
Worst Poster
DEAR GOD I WANT TO RIP YOUR THROAT OUT Poster
Worst Thread
Best Quotable Line
Lamest Joke
Survivor (i.e a girl who can post more than five times without running away screaming)
Sweetest Avatar
Greatest Insult
Most Memorable Walk-Out Thread

and so forth.

"Good Cosplay Only" Like Will, I nearly Hydro Cannon'd*.

*Muhznote: "Hydrocannon" is an actual pokemon attack. You lose a turn to recharging like hyper beam, but it's a water-type attack. XD I wanted to post this in the thread, but by the time I checked it out, that fad was over and done with. Goddamn, this is a long note.

I have a severe feeling that this will bring up terrible feelings, harsh insults, horrific memories, and overall chaos.

I agree with HMD, let us do this thing.

I have been looking for that thread for so long.  Thank you for bringing it back.

I'm convinced the guy deserves a shrine of some sort to pay tribute to having way too much time on his hands.  I'd say we give out an 'IG13 award' to the next person whose post count spikes from inane dribble.  Seriously, if you look at the stats, there are people who have been on longer who still haven't caught up to IG13's post and threadcount.

also the thread where yuka takeuchi fan blamed the problems in his life on 4chan was the funniest thing ever and should win in a landslide
I regret that YTF himself deleted that awesome thread when no one was looking in an effort to save face.  I was disappointed with that, since there were some amazing rants in that thread.  It's a shame that it got killed off like that.  What a fucking cop-out.

Hey, why is there only an award being given to the best thread? Why not ones for like, say:

While I can't speak for everyone else, I can tell you whom I think fits each one of these.

Best Poster: Hands down, I'd have to say that JG00's the best poster on this forum. He posts intelligently and is informative, doesn't get into arguments often, and when he does, it's about the important things in life, like the proper romanization of character's names from Animahjong X.

Worst Poster:  Ringo, obviously.

DEAR GOD I WANT TO RIP YOUR THROAT OUT Poster: People who PM me asking for Viper games and gifs, but are too lazy to capitalize their 'i's or make coherent sentences.  Sorry guys, i kant' healp u .

Worst Thread: Anything in the fanfiction forum.  I'm not sure if any of that stuck.  Here, let me bold it, and add space for emphasis;

Anything in the fanfiction forum.

Best Quotable Line: There are too many to count.  Hell, even the glossary doesn't do all of the inside jokes we've made justice.  I couldn't name a best one.

Survivor (i.e a girl who can post more than five times without running away screaming): pt.  She's the only girl who's posted on here whom I remember.

Best single post on Congress of Awesome (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5.msg118#msg118)
This one easily wins the award for longest running inside joke.  Were I to make T-Shirts from the forum, they'd be based on this.

It's too late for me to take it back, especially since I threw the word 'anything' in there, and bolded it.  But if it really wasn't fan fiction than I don't think you have anything to worry about.  No offense to fan fiction writers, I just think that 'good fanfiction' is an oxymoron.  It's tough enough suspending disbelief when something's fictional.  When something's fictional and uncanon it's nearly impossible.

Edit: My gut feeling tells me I'm wrong about this.

Still, I wonder how many people will flip out. I think that's worth being wrong for every once in a while. =D

Awright, my turn to hand out awards.

Best Poster: Bill and HMD are by far the most fun to read. You guys tie.

Worst Poster: I won't name names, but his initials are YTF.

DEAR GOD I WANT TO RIP YOUR THROAT OUT Poster: IG13 is now gone, but he gets this one. When I would say "I wish my forum had more activity", I didn't mean I wanted it spammed full of nonsense topics about favorites and import games nobody will ever play.

Worst Thread: I nominate Community Chest in it's entirety, except for any threads started by the site's admin and moderators. For every worthy post, there's a million that aren't worth the time they took to type. At least the under-used fanfiction forum's never-read topics had some forethought go into them.

Best Quotable Line: "I don't think, I just fap to it."--Bill

Lamest Joke: We had a lame joke? Where?

Survivor (i.e a girl who can post more than five times without running away screaming): I miss pt. Bring her back, Bill! =(

Sweetest Avatar: You can count on Hyperguy, Bill, HMD, and myself to have fuckin' awesome avatars at any given point in time. Remember the pro wrestler avatars? Yeah, that rocked hardcore.

Greatest Insult: Pick a post in which somebody bashed Japan, anime, hentai, or weeaboo shit, and you have a winner.

Most Memorable Walk-Out Thread: The one that turned into Voltron discussion.

You may never know. There are some good fanfics out there, while some aren't even good. From my experience, I'd say only a select few works are made to remedy the faults of the actual canon.

That's right, the Fish Monster one.

There's been so many different types of avatars that they in and of themselves could have their own awards ceremony.
