Title: the Pokemon thread
Post by: tetsaru arigashi on February 15, 2007, 01:47:20 pm
After recent discussion about the upcoming Diamond/Pearl games in one of the other gaming threads, I was surprised to see that no one had yet created a thread devoted to the Pokemon series (other than Will's great mockery of the Poke-rap, lol...).  So, lo and behold, I have created one.  =D  Hopefully this will give everyone a place to post whatever about the games, their "ultimate" team lineups, the new species coming out, tips and strategies, etc.  I may post some of my old species later on.

Yeah, Red and Blue for Life.

150 was enough for me. I didn't need no 300 somethin odd monsters.

Fuckin' mudkips >=(

Ah, Tetsaru. I had a feeling you were behind this. I thank you.

Assuming that most people have the energy to look at an advanced training guide at GameFAQs, I think I'll show off one I'm proud of:

Wow, I didn't think Gengar's speed and special attack could get that high...  O_O;

I've got a question - is there any rhyme or reason behind how Hidden Power works?

I'm gonna have to disagree on that.  More monsters = more variety in stats, move lists, and types = MORE CUSTOMIZATION, and THAT'S why I've enjoyed the Pokemon games so much - to be able (to a good extent) to form a team that best suits your style of fighting.  One beef I had with the original group of Pokemon was the fact that Grass was never a solitary type (save for Tangela) - they always had Poison or something paired with it.  It was like pure Grass didn't even exist, and what Grass-types were available at the time suffered because of it (Grass is NOT weak to Psychic, lol).  That, and I loved the new Steel-types, since I like something that can last a while in battle (go Steelix!  =D)  Besides, the newer games allowed you to explore more areas, equip items, use abilities...  it was just better overall, imo.

And I say fucking Pidgeys and Rattatas.  Those damn things are EVERYWHERE, and they SUCK ASS...  thank God for Max Repel, lol.

Well, i had enough with 150 too.
I didnt need 300 more half-assed and badly-designed mutations

My loyalty lies with Red and Blue, now and always

1. Yeah, it's the product of hardcore training and breeding. I've put more effort onto him than a entire team of 6.
2. It requires A LOT of careful calculation and luck it's really based on the pokemon's stats: http://db.gamefaqs.com/portable/gbadvance/file/pokemon_emerald_battling.txt

Go to "Individual Values" and look at "Hidden Power". You know you're a bit too into the game when you're fiddling with the calculations for stats.

......and enough with the ****ing mudkips. If I hear one more thing about mudkips, I'm going to get my Jynx and Hyper Beam the crap out of one. Hell I'll get out Magikarp and do it. FEAR THE KARP!:

It's Pokemon Netbattle, available at http://tvsian.info/netbattle/, but unfortunately, it's gone half-dead as of late. All we have left now are replays and battle logs.... and it is possible to get a magikarp with hyper beam. One of my friends with an Action Replay made an Exploding one.
