We just have the ideas.Aint it true
They perfect them.
That's my two cents right there.
Well, they invented the SR-genre with old-school Mazinger Z, so i cant say i dont love em
Okay, this is where I draw the line. Anime, all right. Hentai, go for it, but cultural inferiority complex? Get over yourself.
Problems:
1. Japan has one of the highest rates of teen suicide in the industrialized world due to the tremendous social and academic pressures involved in the Japanese school system. Corporal punishment was outlawed only recently due to its almost arbitrary level of application. There are rising cases of kids simply going into their rooms and not coming out.
2. You think appearances mean a lot over here? Japan has us fucked on that regard. The number of social rituals required in daily interaction are staggering, and god help you if you mess up.
3. The crushing social pressures both in school and in daily adult life would be enough, but it has become so bad that a large number of men are simply put off approaching women for marriage, meaning that the population in the country is in a decline. It has gotten so bad that the Japanese government is offering bounties to women who have children.
4. The social stratification and entrenchment of gender roles has required monumental efforts to even budge, and even now politicans are still getting away with saying things like "women are birth-giving machines"* without substantial criticism from their colleagues in office.
I'm sure there's mure, but I'll put them up as I find them.
*Hakuo Yanagisawa, Minister of Welfare.
Plus, we made Exo-Squad. And: Robotech is better than Macross.
I wonder if animes like this is inspired by the darker side of Japanese culture....
Oh, and Exo Squad? That cartoon was well done, but for reasons unknown, didn't last too long. Either that, or I missed a few episodes.....

Seriously, this is a whole new level of fucked up that I wasn't even aware of. All my experiences with "Japan is fucked up" comes from seeing clips of their television shows, their commercials, and some of the absolutely bizarre porn they animate or put their porn stars through.
The other thing to consider is that for some time all the anime and manga licensed to the US and on the fansub circles have been pretty much the creme of the crop. This created an illusion of superiority that thankfully is being shattered as more and more anime and manga are being seen in fansub and licensed by companies.I couldn't have said it better myself. Just walk into any manga bookstore or open up any offbrand manga phonebook and it's not hard to find droves and droves of mindless, ugly, and crappy manga. A lot of crappy anime doesn't see release in the U.S. either, which I think is an advantage to living on this side of the pond. The majority of the horrible, time killing content has been filtered out, and thankfully, died off and stayed in Japan where it should have. There's no sense in importing 10 lbs of monkey crap.

Because of those problens they created Yatta (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9rWFZesV8s)
Are you sure? I thought Japan was troubled with overpopulation...Yatta was created as a counter/parody/satire of J-Pop music. It both succeeded wonderfully and failed miserably as the Japanese people, ignorant to the intended purpose of the group, loved it and more or less forced them to go on tour. Each concert was 2 hours of that same song, and all the lil crazy Japs loved it. The end.

i mean how could we ever beat them.WITH LASERS
So uh, we've got lots of space in America. Isn't that an advantage Japan doesn't have?
America's pretty fricken' sweet if you sit down and think about it.
Well, You know, the West has its own problems (The USA has lower social mobility than England of all places, the UK has the worst rich/poor disparity in the industrialized world, France's birthrate has been fucked since WWI, etc.), but I just feel the need to burst anyone's bubble when they say a particular culture is "superior". I'd go after anyone who said that France/Belgium/Russia/Egypt/Whatever is better than whoever else.
Lets be honest,i feel that the Japanese are better in every way
They make the best movies, best games, always ahead of us in Technology i mean how could we ever beat them.
I feel my blood boiling, so, for this boards' sake, I won't make any posts in this thread after this one.

The Japanese are better than us. True. But we still have more nukes!
Army of Darkness was called Kyaputien supamaketto: Shiryo no harawata III in Japan.
Apparently they think he is merely a supermarket guy :/
I think that supernatural horror movies, with ghosts etc, are way scarier than "I'm ugly and i have a chainsaw" movies. Jason = Shit. I've watched some of his movies and they are all fucking stupid. Jason X made me laugh instead of feel scared. And those movies with zombies are equally bad, they are more action movies than horror.
you guys forgot that they're better than us at music (http://www.talkingarm.com/music/Maher_DifferentDaylight_16.mp3), too.
You're forgetting about Michael Giacchino, the sonuvabitch who did the music for Medal of Honor and Call of Duty.
Hey, USA beats Japan at FPS!! Score one more and thank Duke Nukem!
I was talkin' 'bout Duke Nukem 3D, which is celebrating its 10-and-something birthday, and it still kicks so much ass! No, literally, it KICKS ASS! I mean, how many games do you know that have your FOOT, nay, your MIGHTY FOOT, available as a weapons, let alone a japanese game! And let's not even go to the DEVASTATOR and its awesome (In every sense of the word) power!
I LOVE Marty O'Donnell's work for the halo series. Some of the best video game music I EVER heard. Thats stricly of course opinionated. I hope some peopl can agree with me on this...

Which brings the question, is there a line of good and bad Fanboyism.
Which brings the question, is there a line of good and bad Fanboyism. and is fanboyism even a word?
I agreed with alot of that! but at the same time was scared by it =P I know Fanboyism can blind ya from reality. but he didnt really draw a line. He kinda made me feel any of slightest fandom is bad. I admit I Bought anime stuff Like statues to display on my desktop. But then again I also have statues of the gorillaz (from U.K.) master chief (an american based character) and other non Japanese items. But that article made me feel bad just having the little I do have =/I think the gist of it isn't that the slightest fandom as bad so much as irrationality caused by fandom is.
Which brings the question, is there a line of good and bad Fanboyism. and is fanboyism even a word?
You could say there is a fine line between the two states. A good sign of crossing that line is when you begin to demand entitlement rights and accusing the creators of not knowinf the right way a character should act, and that the relationships are all wrong.
Japan is FUCKED THE HELL UP. We will never match their bizarre perversity and willingness to exploit themselves for 5 seconds of fame
Like dis?BINGO.

Or, my favorite example has got to be...
When grown men wear Hello Kitty T-Shirts.
I mean honestly people, unless you were homosexual, unusual, or creator of the series, you wouldn't wear a T-Shirt with a picture of Rainbow Brite, Barbie, or My Little Pony on it, would you? It's an unstated fact that in the world of man, you get beaten up, berated, or disrespected for wearing something so girly. So why would you wear a Hello Kitty T-Shirt, which for the most part is a girl's cartoon character, notwithstanding its place of origin? That's irrationality in action, and I know I've seen men older than 30 years of age wearing them solely because it's Japanese.
I guess the big picture here is that if you want to be a fan of the anime, at least be a fan of the anime in a healthy fashion, and not one that has you doing demeaning things to yourself in an effort to look cool or be more accepted by irrationally thinking anime fans.
