Title: Nintendo Consoles + Bitchin' Games for Them
Post by: HMD on February 12, 2007, 03:39:00 pm
You should all shut up and buy a real video game system (i.e a DS, a 360, a Saturn or a Dreamcast; maybe a Neo Geo Pocket Color if you can find one).

Sorry HMD, but I'd have to say either SNES, N64, or PS2 so far.  The Gamecube had a few good games (Super Smash Bros. Melee, Wind Waker, etc.), but not near as many as its previous consoles, imo.  Hopefully the Wii will change that...

Animal Crossing IS a pretty fun-ass game - another Gamecube classic.  =D  Haven't played the DS one yet; I heard it was pretty similar...

I have not played the GC AC yet, but the DS version is fucking spectacular, and is recommended for anyone with a soul.

I'm thinking of buying a Gamecube just for Resident Evil 4 and Killer7, even though I own the PS2 versions of both.

And I'm just now starting to get into the SNES. Earthbound is pretty cool, actually.

*whispers* Twinkle Star Sprites. Craziest-ass shooter I've ever seen that's more addictive than crack, MMO's, and sex combined (well...more addictive than the first two anyhow, last one is too good to pass up). Riduculously overly cute colors that would otherwise repulse a guy if he didn't know its gameplay. Gameplay is insane like hell...

The ultimate shmup masters play TSS.

Heh...I'm still playing stuff like the original TA, Radiant Silvergun, Thunder Force series, Super Metroid; stuff like that (mostly on emulators and ROM's, cause I don't want to screw up my already ancient systems)

Indeed. All conversations pertaining to Not-the-Wii have been moved into this separate thread for talk of older Nintendo gaming consoles and why they rock house.

Thank god for someone who looks past the "Cute & cuddly exterior". I myself am a hardcore pokemon gamer. Seriously, I know the formula to calulate their stats. (As of RSE gen, that is. Not sure about D/P....)

Wow, that's pretty hard-core.  Back in the day, I'd list all the different specs of my team and their moves, just to see what they could take out the easiest.  That, and some of the mean-ass combo set-ups: Steelix with Sandstorm + Toxic + Bind, Crobat with Mean Look + Toxic + Confuse Ray + Bite holding a King's Rock/Bright Powder, Cacturne with Ingrain + Leech Seed + Giga Drain holding Leftovers... some pretty mean shit if you can pull it off.  >=D

If I have enough time to devote, I'd like to get some raised-from-egg species and start my old team back again on these new games... IF I can actually GET them all without either hacking or going to some bullshit promo event...

Btw, I heard that there might be even more new species to tinker around with on Diamond/Pearl.  Any idea what they'll be like?

I think if someone mentions Elite Beat Agents or Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin for the Nintendo DS or Secret of Mana or Chrono Trigger for the SNES I'll be happy.  And if not, I might start throwing rocks at cars.

I lied.  I feel no different! D:

Has anyone had a chance to play the more girly yet wrought with gameplay DS titles, like Cooking Mama, Super Princess Peach, or Harvest Moon DS?  I'm a bit curious as to how good they are.

I've been talking about Elite Beat Agents since November. Remember that thread I started? NEED I REMIND YOU OF THESE:

Portrait of Ruin is pretty good. Nothing mindblowing, but better than the GBA games.

I've played a few levels of Super Princess Peach and thought it was alright. The emotion control felt tacked on, but otherwise I found it perfectly acceptable.

Insert Credit did a great review (http://www.insertcredit.com/reviews/cookingmama/) of Cooking Mama's instruction manual, and then there's always that one Gamelife review of the game (I forget which episode it was, so no link for you).

serebii.net is your friend. A bunch of Previous-Gen pokemon get new evolutions (O_O @ Likitung's) , we get a bunch of new ghosts (Yay, a Dark/Ghost type that DOESN'T suck!) Some attaccks are now physical instead of special and vice-versa, and some have turned neutral.

There's now a Normal-Type Legendary. Its stats are higher than Mewtwo's. Being the highest-leveled wild pokemon AND the ability to have different typing at the user's will, AND for learning a move called "Judgement" pebble, this new guy "Aruseus" is now being thought of as the poke-god.

There's a CHIA PET for a legendary. I'm serious. Look for "Shemi" in the D/P dex. IT'S A FREAKIN' CHIA PET. I'm going to name mine Chia-Chan when I catch it.

The "cover legends" are part dragon. There's a Steel/Dragon, Water/Dragon, and my favorite, a Ghost/Dragon. Really, the pokemon designs have gotten more intense and somewhat darker-themed. I'm tempted to import, but I'll wait in anticipation.

P.S. Cradily pulls off that last combo MUCH better-it gets Confuse Ray too. >:D

I have it.  Best DS game yet.   Better than New Super Mario Bros, if you care to beleive me.   If you don't, go buy/borrow/rent it and prove me wrong.

-1 rep for comparing it to Cooking Mama and Harvest Moon.  More blasphemous words have never been spoken.

That doesn't make it less worthy of mention though.

Seriously though, congraturations.  After seeing your high score on it I went on a marathon session and hours later, finally beat EBA's last stage(on medium difficulty. D:)

I lumped them together, because, let's face it, they're girlfriend pleasing games.  I'm guessing Peaches' floating jump makes a comeback in this game?

Trust me, you'll please more than just your girlfriend with that game.

My Nintendo 64 got sucked into a doom maelstorm of 'hey can I borrow this' and haven't been heard from since.  My younger sister was using it last I checked.  How it ended up at my Mom's sans cables is still a mystery to me. D:

And I never knew what happened to my copy of Super Smash Bros.  Someone borrowed it and never returned it.  Fucker.

Played more hours on Ikaruga than I can bother to remember. Ridiculously simple concepts, good and hard gameplay.

Mmm...I wanna say Puzzle Bobble (aka Bust-a-move, not the dance one), but that hasn't been released in the US yet (on the DS). I swear, that series is worse than crack in terms of addictive properties and god knows why something so frustrating is so addictive.

Name a Bomberman of your choice with multiplayer (preferably the vanilla deathmatch).

Super Metroid for SNES rocked.

Hey so uh, hey. I got myself a Nintendo Revolution a few weeks back. I only have one game that I didn't download so far (Trauma Center: Second Opinion, which is AWESOME).

Send me your shitty Miis at this number: 0075-3693-0768-4748

And while I'm on the subject of Nintendo, I also picked up and subsequently became addicted to Pokemon Diamond. My goal is to collect every water-type Pokemon and win all the contest ribbons.

Since I'm quite sure there's a few of you who'd like to kick my ass, 2062 5670 3611 (name: James).

I picked up Pokemon Diamond and have played it a grand total of 40 minutes.

I just don't have time for it right now, considering earlier in the week I picked up Yugioh World Championship 2007, and just picked up Jump Ultimate Stars.

All in all I'm pretty tired of Pokemon.  I don't even know why I bought it.  I got tired of it after I collected all 150 on the original gameboy blue version.

Eh?!?  Does this mean you still have somewhat of an interest in the game??  I thought you said way back that you stopped playing Yugioh (like everyone else except me, it seems now...).  Even if you no longer play the actual card game, you'd still have to know how to play it for the video game version, and like it somewhat...  =O

A coworker convinced me to pick it up.  He said that we should both get a copy of the game so we could play each other.  Needless to say I love the DS'es wifi capabilities, so I picked up a copy, and not to mention, I liked how Yugioh's paper card game was built from the ground up to be compatible with the video games.  I guess that isn't too surprising since it was made by Konami.  Collecting the cards within the game's a lot more merciful on the wallet than buying booster packs, that's for sure.

Though I don't play it regularly, I do know a lot about the card game, since I've taught a few people how to play it.  It's weird.  Sometimes on my days off my coworker'll even call me up with questions about different card effects when he's playing his friends(in the paper version).

So yeah.  I got to level 2 on the DS version, and need a few more power cards to get to the next level.  I mostly use monsters with high attack and cards that give card advantage.  Also, the Dark Magician Girl is teh sex.

Except for not having lolis (unless you buy the Japanese version which has an unlockable stage with Lip) and story mode, the rest is the same with some updates here and there, items for vs battles and some new modes of puzzle. I, Kiinan Yamasu, have returned. And I must say this...

SUPER PAPER FUCKIN' MARIO. Funniest damn game ever for one reason: Francis the chameleon.

Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Awesome game with unique powerups (Spinner, Double Clawshot, Dominion Rod and Ball and Chain come to mind), but the flipping for the Wii version annoys my eyes. But at least the controls are more fun now. =3

Cooking Mama: Cook Off. Come on, this game actually gets you MOVING.

Wii Sports. Five words. Hobo Mii in Wii Boxing.

That whole Francis chapter is a load of laughs.  It's great that only Princess Peach qualifies to get into his room for being a "super hot babe"

Bowser was funnier though.  He's cynical the whole game through and has a number of great one-liners, especially if you lead him into one of the battles against O'Chunks.

Yes, I am pretty hyped about SSB on Wii.  Trying not to get too hyped up though, don't want to be disappointed >.>

Not sure about how I feel about the pocket monsters trainer though... just so... random.  Maybe if it kind of had a random trainer appear everytime, or a least if each of the five colors were different entirely instead of just recolors...  I actually would have less of a hard time accepting it if it was one of the trainers from the games, like Ash or whoever else was the main character in the 50 other Pokemon games i never bothered to buy wtf 400+ pokemon now wtfux.

ZOMG PETEY PIRANHA!?  BOSS?  NUUU MUST BE PLAYABLE MUST BE PLAYABLE @$%^#$^#$^#$

I have a DS, and I love it,

I've currently beaten Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (Great game), Phoenix Wright 1 and 2, I am stuck on "Without a Fight" in EBA on Sweatin'! mode, and due to my arm being fudged up haven't been able to play any of Children of Mana, Cooking Mama would be the other game I own.

Currently I am looking to pick up Lifesigns, Phoenix Wright 3, Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy IV (It's coming, trust me), and possibly Resident Evil Deadly Silence for the sheer hell of it.

Sooo yeah.

You'll need one for Phantom Hourglass (http://www.zelda.com/universe/game/phantomhourglass/), too.  (Shipping October 1 according to EBGames (http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=180162).)

I still don't know what to make of it as a sequel to Wind Waker though...

I enjoyed Wind Waker.  As good as the rest of Zelda?  Perhaps no....

you know I still don't think I've beaten Wind Waker like all games I play I think I stopped playing at the last dungeon @.@  where's my GCN discs....

Yah, I have a tendency to do that myself.  I still need to beat FFXII, as well as get 100% completion on Kingdom Hearts II.  Guitar Hero 2/Encore, Twilight Princess, and PSU have kept me busy lately, lol...

Don't forget, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is also out on the 27th.

This will be one of the next games I plan to get.  I hope it's as good as everyone says.

Btw, I posted my Wii Code in the DS/Wii Code thread I made a while back.  Share your codes with me!  >_<

Prime 3 is fantastic.  On par with MP1 and much better than MP2.  Suprisingly easy to play with the Wii remote and nunchuk.  The new gear (especially grapple lasso) really adds a new element of gameplay to the series.  Ripping the shields and armor off of Pirate Troopers might be the coolest thing to hit first person shoot'em ups in a while.

On the other hand its not as deep as 1 or 2.  It's a lot more linear (not as much going back and forth to areas already visited), tough to die (unless you jump in a fuel gel pit) and you've got to be lazy or stupid to not top a 90% item pickup rate, so it doesn't have as much replayability as the others.  It's also noticably shorter: I'm about to head into the final battle at about 16 hours.  I remember MP1 and MP2 taking well into the 20s the first time around.

Prime 1 was better, but Prime 3 is definately worth a Grant.  Moreso if you don't have a 360 collecting dust while waiting for Halo 3.

If you don't have one of the more recent Wii models or controllers coming of the line, you can now get the controller jacket included with all new hardware for free.  Just go to http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/jacket/jacketrequest.jsp (http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/jacket/jacketrequest.jsp), enter your Wii's serial number and the number of gloves you want, and Nintendo will ship them to you at no charge.

Sooo... I'm guessing all this thing does is make the Wii Remote bulkier and (hopefully) more ergonomic??  Thanks, but no thanks.  The only Wii Controller that I find awkward to hold is the Classic Controller, probably since it's so flat.  If they shaped it more like the old Gamecube controller, and switched the D-Pad and left stick (sorta like the Xbox-360 controller), I would have liked it more.

In case anyone's curious, I got my controller jackets today.  They are plain, clear, uncolored plastic, with little grooves and raised areas to help grip the controller better (no jokes regarding other uses please.)
My only caveat is that they stink like fresh plastic sometimes does.  I need to let them air out a bit before I get near them again.

Shipping seems to be pretty quick.  Mine appears to have shipped from Atlanta on Friday.

I don't see how motion sensors would assist vaginal stimulation.

I've got some new games for my DS, thought I would share my opinion about them.

First, FFXII: Revenant Wings. Definitely not worth of having Final Fantasy in it's title. It is somewhat enjoyable, I liked the music a lot, but what bugs me is that it needs close to no strategy at all. In every mission you'll probably just summon all that is possible and charge, and you will either succeed or the boss will exterminate your whole party with a special attack. The story is "acceptable", although it has nothing to do with FFXII; at least it has some character development *evil stare at FFXII*.

Geometry Wars: Galaxies, played it for an hour and stopped due to my hand hurting. Trying to move your ship with the d-pad is no good. Apparently, the game consists of only shooting and dodging, and you are supposed to do the same thing in like, 30+ planets.

And last, Contra 4. Awesome game, go play it now. It has everything a good Contra should have, and the extras are very interesting. Challenge Mode should be in every Contra from now on, it really adds to the replay factor.

So much for talking about OLD Nintendo systems...

Try SNES with Donkey Kong Country 1 2 & 3 and Mega Man X (1)
THOSE were good games. Games that could make you go from laughing to raging to crying in five minutes. Except megaman. That one just made teh carplol tunnels happen.

Also some GCN titles people sort of missed: Baten Kaitos (and BK Origins). IMO stands right next to the FF series. Guillo ftw!

And let me get mad for a second: WTF is with the Donkey Kong bongo drumming games? I heard someone playing one. It's more annoying than getting to the boss room of a dungeon in Twilight Princess and forgetting the Big Key. (Which is at the other end of the dungeon)

Doft was right about Revenant Wings ..I was hoping for something more like FFTA, but it was not. It's a "pretty good" game, but nothing to shout about.

Yes.

I have the soundtracks to those games somewhere around here if anyone wants them, but it would take a little while to find + upload them.

Ok I'll look around, but it seriously may be a week or two (I have divorced parents and therefore two houses/computers worth of junk to look through)

I also have very little to no clue how to get them up here, because I'm a noob.

Also, what thread would I put them in, or start new threeeaddd....???@??#$OI$sgkjdg

Did somebody say something about old game soundtracks?  Are .spc and .nsf's acceptable?  Shit I'm going to have to dig them up.  Think most of them are on my macbook with the dead battery.

Anyways, DKC 1 and 2 were awesome... for some reason 3 didn't hit me as much as the first two.  Maybe I'm just misogynist against Dixie Kongs.

DKC3 went overboard on the hidden objects to collect. DK coins and Krem Coins were enough.

Will do (once I find them)

I had serious problems with the baby kong in DKC3... He couldn't jump or...do anything useful other than sit on things.
