Title: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Post by: ROMate on November 01, 2006, 07:24:40 pm
GAME ROCKS. Twenty characters to choose from, all of them excellent Marvel classics, each with a unique role to play in the story and the party. Stats level up all on their own, so all you need worry yourself over are your skills. Costumes are for more than just appearances this time, too: Rather than spend money acquired on extra equipment, you spend it to upgrade your hero's costume and increase their powers further than ever. Each hero has 4 unique costumes from various eras of the Marvel continuity. You can also create your own unique team of heroes with their own special bonuses.

The combat system has been improved and streamlined to make combat a breeze. Heroes can now block and dodge-roll in fights for added survivability. Heroes with flying can do so without having to spend skill points. Also, flying heroes can now use their powers in the air. X-Treme powers return, this time with a new mechanic: Momentum! Build momentum in combat with combos and powers, then unleash your character's attack when the time is right! X-Treme powers now activate all at once, too, so you can easily combo them together to wreak unimaginable havoc.

And this is just the start. So far I've made it into the beginning of Act 2, and I've experienced more Marvel ownage than in any other Marvel game previous to it. My whole dorm room has banded together to make a killer party out of Spider-Man, Iron Man, Silver Surfer, and Captain America. I also have my own personal team going in a separate save game consisting of Spider-Man, The Thing, Ms. Marvel, and Spider-Woman. I've got plenty of characters to unlock still, but it's going to be awesome getting to them. The game is so worth the 50 dollars I paid for it.

Cool bro. I cant wait to play it at greater length. I dunno who my bias will shine upon in this game...

After I get Superman Returns, this is probably going to be the second game I'll be picking up for my Xbox 360.

The world owns. There's no such thing as a shitty character in this one. Also; today Claver came up to UWG and we played the training missions for a while. Had fun stealing weapons from enemies and clobbering 'em with their own stuff. Even though my gigantic positive bias for Spider-Man has had me playing him the whole time, I also really like The Thing and Luke Cage.

Spaceworlder: Let me know how Moon Knight is. I got it on PS2, and he's next-gen exclusive.

Who are the playable characters again?  This isn't coming to Wii/PS3 is it?

are there any current-gen exclusives?

Ultimate Alliance is being ported to Wii as well. No idea about a PS3 version.

I dont' know if it's on PS3. Right now, it's relased for Wii, X-Box 360, PS2, and PSP. The only current system to get exclusives is the PSP version, which got Hawkeye and Black Widow. Maybe one or two others, but those two are the only ones I know right off the top of my head. Moon Knight and Colossus are the only next-gen exclusives. Otherwise, everyone else on this list is playable:

Captain America
Spider-Man
Thor
Iron Man
Luke Cage
Spider-Woman
Blade
Black Panther
Daredevil
Elektra
Ms. Marvel
Deadpool
Mr. Fantastic
Invisible Woman
The Thing
The Human Torch
Storm
Wolverine
Iceman
Nick Fury
Ghost Rider
Dr. Strange

Also, something I found out: If you start a new game, and you have another save file on the memory card, it imports all the things you've unlocked in the other save. I started up a new game today to screw with some other characters, and had so much crap open already it was stupid. The only things that didn't carry over are the stat upgrades I found, character action figures, and training simulator discs.

Dr. Strange?!

I'm buying this.

Strange rocks hardcore. He's got a power that either:
A) Does obscene damage
B) Turns the enemy into a box

And either way, it owns. My friend who plays him always says incantations and stuff when he does it, like "By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth, I transmute your form into that of a box!" Then throws the box at another guy, stunning that enemy, then transmutes THAT one into a box, and...well, you get the idea. XD

Recently unlocked Black Panther and Ghost Rider. Those two own so hardcore. Black Panther's made a decent substitute for Moon Knight (still wish I could play him though) and Ghost Rider's such awesome crowd control it's putting my Spidey to shame.

I got the PSP version. Hawkeye, Black Widow, and two others (I forgot, don't have them either) are exclusive to it.

I'm not far yet, I've been playing in the car and it's the first game that actually gave me a headache. It doesn't help that the framerate's lower than the consol version.

But I like. I played Gradius Collection a lot more, though.

I wanted Hawkeye and Widow on the console version. I just hate that there are playable X-Men, since they got 2 games all to themselves.

Damn them putting both Hawkeye on Black Widow on the shitty PSP.

I can't even see the fu cking screen.  God I hate that fucking system.  Bah!  I'll just have to make do with Moon Knight.

No, bu the gigantic flash from the blaring screen no matter what lighting condition you're in can sometimes make you that way.

Spider-Man has one of the hardest training sim missions ever, but his unlockable costume is SO worth it.

Man Bat > Man Spider

It's his Stark Armor from Civil War.

yeah that's pretty cool but Man Spider so much cooler >o>

Stark Armor is awesome for melee. And since Spidey's all web damage and melee damage, the suit you stick with should depend on which one you'd rather rely on. Go Classic for webs, Stark for melee.

Okay, I just started playing this in earnest again today, and all I have to say is "Fuck Iceman". I've got his best outfit half-way maxed out, and he STILL can't survive the first wave of enemies in his simulator mission.

Son of a bitch.  I just realized Hawkeye is only available in the PSP version.

That means I have to buy it and not one of the versions that actually has a decent resolution -_-

I played a little bit of this game last week. It's great, but I have a feeling the sequel will be much better.

Now here's a question: who would you like to see as the villain in ultimate alliance 2? My personal vote is for Thanos.
Title: Re: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

I want the Green Goblin or Doctor Octopus to appear in some capacity.

That would be nice. And how about Venom as a playable character?
Title: Re: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Post by: ROMate on February 03, 2007, 09:12:26 pm
Maybe. It would depend entirely upon whether they use Eddie Brock or MacGargan.
Title: Re: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Post by: rygax on February 04, 2007, 11:59:06 am
They better use Brock. I know he's kind of dying of terminal cancer now, but Ultimate Alliance has a loose enough continuity to allow him to be in it. Plus with the movie coming out I wouldn't be surprise if Brock got the symbiote back sometime in the near future.
Title: Re: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Post by: ROMate on February 04, 2007, 06:13:45 pm
This month, Marvel is starting a "Back in Black" storyline in which Peter will be wearing the black costume. Whether it will merely be a costume or the symbiote is currently uniknown, but I really wouldn't be surprised if it ditched Gargan and went back to one of it's more familiar hosts.

Now, my thing with having Venom as a playable character is that Eddie rarely played the hero. Since he was a villain more often, I'd almost prefer to see him as a nemesis to Spider-Man and the rest of the team in the second game. If they make him a playable "hero", I'd tolerate Carnage acting as a villain in his stead. Then, if nothing happens to Gargan being Venom before the game's release, Venom had better be a villiain, there's just no other way to do it.

I've a feeling it's going to be the cloth black suit Black Cat made for him back in the day. No way is Pete dumb enough to risk the symbiote ever again. Plus I think it'll be a mourning thing. After all Mary Jane and Aunt May were in the sites of a sniper last issue of amazing: maybe one of 'em bites it.

I think Venom can still be a viable hero character. Sure in the main series he was a bad guy, but they always played up his anti-hero status. Then during his own series he certainly could be viewed in a heroic light, mental instability nonwithstanding.

If that happens, I'll be maaaaaad. But it'll be interesting all the same.

My only problem is how do they introduce him into the group? Is he an initial character, or unlockable? I'd think he wouldn't be available until later, having been talked into joining or forcing himself upon them. Hey, what'd be even more fun would be if there were other anti-hero or villain-turned-hero characters, to make a Thunderbolts team! =D

Today XBox 360 owners got a ton of new downloadable characters, including Cyclops, Nightcrawler, The Hulk, Dr. Doom, Magneto, Venom, and Sabretooth, amont others that I didn't remember because they're probably not as awesome as those 7. This makes me want 360 very badly, except I still kinda want the Wii for the upcoming NiGHTs and other stuff.

Does Raven or whoever is doing the updates have a good reason as to why they can't do this on Wii or even PS3 for that matter?
Title: Re: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Post by: Doctor_Raven on April 11, 2007, 01:21:02 pm
Wii is obvious, its got gamecube graphics, plus they'd probably charge you wii points per character, and demand mario in on the team.  Which may be interesting... As for PS3?  No clue :/

Yes, that's a very good and obvious reason.  It's the reason they never released the game on Wii or Gamecube.

Oh wait what's this sitting right next to me.  Wii MUA.  Oops.

Indeed XD

But they also released it on GCN I'm 99% sure.  I mean I don't own a copy of it on that but I could have sworn I heard it was released in the "current-gen" wave on GCN, so you know you'd assume with Wii at least as good graphics-wise as the GCN.

Wait what were we talking about?  I completely forget =/

Mouse wheel... scroll upwards..... NEVAH!

It wasn't released on Gamecube. I initially tried to buy M:UA for the Gamecube, only to have the EBGames employee ever so rudely yell "Gamecube is DEAD!", so I bought it for PS2. *shrug* I don't go to that EB anymore.
Title: Re: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

Yes, indeed it is not available on GCN.

I received a similar response from an employee at... what the hell was it called?  That place that existed after it bought out Software Etc. and thsoe other places... I guess only EB is left.  Anyways he was a bit nicer about it, when I asked him if the handlful of games on that single shelf was really all the GCN games they had, he said: "nobody buys gamecube games"

Gamestop.
Software Etc, EBGames, Funcoland: they're are all under the Gamestop umbrella now.  Thus, there isn't the competition in video games market right now like there used to be.
