Gurren Lagann Licensed by Bandai
« on: April 21, 2008, 09:32:25 am »
This was quite a surprise.  I thought ADV would hold onto this series but alas it falls into the hands of Bandai.  The series will be released in a set of 3 comprised of 9 episodes each set and the first set will be released this July (subs only with the english dub version stated to be released in the start of 2009)  Personally I am glad that the set will only be 3 (since I'm running out of dvd space and will save money buying less dvds) however, I like ADV releases more than Bandai.

This really is an odd turn of events.  I wonder if this has anything to do with the rumor I heard of ADV gradually losing money.

ADV's been having problems since the start of the year.  It initially looked like they were going under but then they turned it around.  They still aren't stable yet but they are sure trying to be.

Forgot to add that all three sets will be released this year: July, August, September.  Pretty much this series is going to get a rapid release treatment.  I am hoping the price is not too high such as the ridiculous price for another Bandai series Shigofumi which was scheduled for release in May for $40 for 2 episodes only.  (Of course that all changed and right now Bandai is considering a new price for Shigofumi).  I am excited for Gurren Lagann but at the same time I hope ADV does not lose anymore of it's licenses and I hope it can release their DVDs and Mangas on time (Kanon Vol 4 was delayed a month to May and Yotsuba 6 is delayed with no release date, btw I am currently collecting these for those wondering why I mentioned them)
