sogna url can be acquired!
« on: August 20, 2005, 09:33:07 pm »
The renewal for www.sogna.com expired on July 27, 2005. It doesn't seen like the company will be making a comeback. Anyone can purchase the url now.

hmmm that's a hard proposition. If anyone were to take that URL they may be hit hard by rabid Viper fans demanding more Viper porn.

I saw what you did there.

...And from all parts of the globe.  Hey, kind of like this site!  The only difference is that we're not linked to by 1,000s of old Japanese sites.

Well cat's out of the bag I guess. ^_^

I noticed this a few weeks back myself, and already registered for the bidding when it opens up for acquistion on Sept 1.  Those of you that have seen what I'm working on in my spare time know I'd put the domain to good use.

Bad news folks. The bidding has gotten way out of reach now, so it looks like sogna.com will not be in under our administration.  It's at $525, with about 18 hours to go as of this post.  I was tempted to go as high as $250 or $300, but this is far higher than I'm willing to pay, and with so many needy people to the south, I'm not going to go out and ask for donations like the people at 4chan.

Yowsers. I wonder how many of the bidders are planning on using it for legitimate reasons and how many are just domain snatching companies willing to make a profit off of reselling it.

I wish this was an indication of Sogna coming back, but since they could have just renewed it on their own that idea's sunk.

It'll be exciting to see what new kind of Sogna comes from this acquisition.

Sogna has last right to match the $592 final bid price and reclaim it within 15 days, but I hardly find that possible, when they could have done it for no more than $60 a few weeks ago.

I don't think it'll be resold.  I think someone bought it because its a goldmine for ad space.  Thousands of pages link to that url already.  Even if I had won it I was thinking of putting an ad on the page (only 1 though!) to help finance the site and recover the cost of domain acquisition, but it went for two to three times as much as I was willing to pay.  So the guy that got it likely going to cash in on other people's outdated links, while my poor site is relegated to a second tier url :-/
