I don't know why, I always thought Shine's brother was her younger brother... Too much incest hentai I guess =P

Same here. Probably because he seems younger than Shine, even in the flashback. When Gel transforms into him to rape Shine, she keeps saying "oneesan", which can mean both "older sister" and "miss", as far as I know. So I still get it mixed up every time.

I'm 90% certain he was her boyfriend, not a brother.

Plus it makes for a better story that way.
