Almost all original Sogna content was censored to comply with Japanese law.

You misunderstand. I'm asking (Viper-san) why the new content for the Viper CCR game (on the yahoo group page) is censored. I meant original in the sense that it's novel work. I'm under the assumption that it's not being produced in Japan.

What's the problem with putting both versions in the game and then providing an option to turn it on and off?

We're not Japanese. We can do what we want.  Unless putting both versions in the same game radically delays the project, I'd be for it.

After all, it's trivial.  We can have an menu option somewhere and use a register to store the value.  We've got plenty of registers to work with.  Take for example the option in CTR that allows you to turn on or off Captain's voice - it would work in a similar way.  We'd just wrap an IF statement around the displaying opcodes, choosing to display one set of frames if censored and one set if uncensored.  Thus, both censored and uncensored frames can occupy the same ANM file.  We don't need separate ANM files or a separate SGS.DAT file.

Actually, I think that a censored version would be great - it would be a nice "nod" to the original games themselves.

I'm personally not bothered by censorship, and I've always agreed with the position there is a certain eroticism in the unseen.  Overly aggressive censoring, that goes as far to censor almost the whole body (like that seen in many old H-Anime movies), can get a bit silly, though.

I agree that the censored parts don't necessarily need to be seen to get the idea across. Though my problem with the censorship isn't so much what's hidden, but what's doing the hiding. Mosaic filters, black bars and such sometimes stick out too much and throw me out of the illusion. I prefer uncensored because it makes for a more cohesive, attractive image. Incidentally some of my favorite Viper gifs are the ones where all the parts that would normally be censored are cropped out, or just outright invisible.

The optional censoring approach sounds like a good way to please everybody. Just hope it doesn't turn out to be more complicated than it sounds on paper.

Also, as far as digital work goes, I need a border like the kind from BTR, CTR, V6...ect only more CCRsy.

Why?  Are the animations not going to be 640x400 like later games?

I would like to see a sample of what the final product is supposed to look like.  Most of the stuff you mentioned sounds hypothetical at this point.

Inserting an animation into a Viper engine like a lot more work than concocting your own engine in Flash (or using an open-source japan novel engine), but if that's easier for you then go for it.

Thanks to others on the board we deciphered the ANM file format and how to compile and decompile WIN programs. And I've figured out the compression on SGS.DAT and the PCM file format, so nothing remains that would prevent us from producing games in the classic SGS format, which has all the features we'd desire except for cross-platform compatibility (as its Windows only)

yeah, That would be cool. I want the VIPER Logo to have that brushed look like CTR's but be blue instead. I dont know about the snake since it mainly only appeared in the V-series of games.

I was going to say that the P, Rs, and Cs should be rounded off at the outside edges, but now that I look at it, I kind of like the ridged look.
