Yeah that's one of the things easily discovered about the series in its first era.

I saw what you did there.

I mean in Asia you can't really get away with that since everybody knows about the monkey king story

That, and the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter/Kaguya-hime. Hell, just having a girl named "Kaguya" instantly sparks flags of reference to the story.

Well its the same with Western culture and Greek/Roman Myths. The minute someone's named Hercules.. you know he's going be a beefcake.

Excellent info Cashino.  I for one did not know that info.  My knowledge of myths only extends to the Western World not the East.  Perhaps I will go do some reading on it.

I beg to differ with the previous posts.  Hercules Klump from the Nutty Professor movie was not a beefcake.  Just beef.. and cake.

Don't tell me that we are going to a DBZ vs. Ranma show down.  Cause that would quite possibly be the most geeky (animewise) evar.

lol no anyway I don't think we can put Ranma and DBZ in the same boat.
Ranma is more a drama with lot of humour and some fight,DBZ is what I call the shonen tournement type.DBZ is the Father of those,Naruto,Yuyu Hakusho,Shaman King...(my opinion of course)

Well, I've always thought that Yu Yu Hakusho was far superior to DBZ but thats just me.

That's the first time I've heard this genre given a name-type, but I think it fits quite well.

I can't stand any of those shows, I'm sorry. I prefer my anime to full of complex romance storylines and lots of drama.

*looks at anime shelf*

Gravitation, Onegai! Sensei, Loveless, New Kimagure Orange Road, Evangelion, Rurouni Kenshin...

Yeah...my tastes are kinda off...

I petition that Akira Toriyama be kicked in the nuts for creating DBZ.

OBJECTION SUSTAINED

Humm I like those kind too.New Kimagure Orange Road? Is'nt that the title of the movie or there is a new season? DBZ was at first great, its the fact that fan were asking for MORE non-stop that made DBZ what it is now.
