KFC makes Fortune's list of dumbest moments in business for first half of 2009

In case you didn't catch it, Oprah's free offer caused many KFCs to completely run out of chicken earlier this year, earning them the 15th spot on the list of dumbest moments in business for the first half of the year.

The bright side of this news of course is that former owner PepsiCo ranked even higher.  Thier ill-advised redesign of the Tropicana brand earned them spot #2.  Perpetually mismanaged GM ranked first.

I didn't even think it was possible for KFC to run out of chicken but there you are.

I would have jumped the counter and started making more chicken myself!

...Only to find out that there was no chicken left in the freezer, I'd assault a chicken truck and start plucking feathers myself.
