Title: The YouTube Thread, proper
Post by: Hyperguy on September 19, 2006, 03:36:48 pm
Congraturation!  A YouTube thread has been born!

Please post all YouTube movies in this thread for easy reference.  We now have a bbc code tag that you can use to post YouTube movies directly into posts.

Basically what you do is take a youtube url(That stands for uniform resource locator, true believer.  Laymans call it an address), like this one:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=IzDVp1gLy6s

And chop off the end of it, the part that after the v=, like this:

IzDVp1gLy6s

Then you rap it with the board's brand new youtube tags, which are located on the edit menu(the button that says YouTube):

Code: [Select]

Finally, your YouTube video will come out like this:

If that Daigo 2k4 vid is him parrying through Chun-Li's SA2, I am going to abuse my mod powers and kill that video. That is the most played out piece of shit footage in the entire SF3 fighting game community. There is NOTHING impressive about it.

I'm fucking against showing that 50 second clip of him parrying the SAII. It's everywhere.

I posted the full match (6 rounds) because I always wondered what happened before or after, cause I told myself the rest of the math was probably boring. So those who wanna know what happens before//after, you can see it now.

Of course, if you wanna take it off just tell me to.

No. The entire match is acceptable. But just that footage of the parry...that thing's got a hit out on it.

Super Robot Taisen Alpha 2.

Part of the grand SRW series made by Banpresto.

Only the Original Generations series(which dont have any animes in them, only original characters/mechs and storyline made by Banpresto)

And Turn A Gundam was only featured in Alpha Gaiden, i believe

No.

Like i said, only Original Generation 1 so far(with 2 coming in November)

And as i also stated, the OG games only have Banpresto Originals

But SRW has a lot more than the standard gundam series, with classic Super Robot ones like Mazinger Z, Combattler V, etc

Well, have you fought the Secret Final Battle vs Granzon/Neo Granzon?

I figured that since the vid shows Zengar one-hitting one of your guys, it would be obvious that I was joking. I don't doubt that Alpha Gaiden is hard. I haven't played any of the disc SRW games, since I'm not big on importing things. However, from what I have played on the Snes and GBA, I have discovered that reports of Alpha Gaiden's difficulty have probably not been exaggerated.

Oh.Sorry bout that. But RR"s like YF-20 dont have that much HP in the first place

Anyway, i havent fought it but i do know that you first fight Granzon and then Neo Granzon in the secret final battle.

Whats more is that, at every certain % of HP(70, 50, and 30, i think.Could be more, though) Shuu triggers a Seishin Skill barrage, mostly always including Full Heal, Kiai(+10 Morale) and Hot Blood(and even Move Again later on)

And Neo Granzon already has a hell of a lot of HP

As much as I'd like to keep talking about it, maybe we should make a SRW thread instead of cluttering up the YouTube thread. Just to keep it on topic, here's the vid I talked about in the "Games that must come to the U.S." thread.

Once again, gameplay is at 2:11 and 7:35.

This first one's a pretty good AMV of Evangelion's Asuka set to Rammstein's "Engel":

Akuma vs. Ryu
That match played out beautifully.  Watching it almost made it feel like a canon Akuma vs. Ryu battle the way Akuma was always one step ahead of Ryu.  And that parry into a Raging Demon at end was priceless.

That Dudley player had the most bizarre fighting style I've ever seen.

I'll stray briefly off topic to deliver my opinion on something. Dudley's machine gun blow should be used in only one circumstance: after a standing HK connects. And then it should always be an EX machinegun blow. It should not be used in air juggles like it was used here; the damage is awful. And it should NEVER EVER be used on its own.

Okay, that's out of the way. That Dudley player looked like he had some okay knowledge of fighting games in general but he (she?) still has quite a bit to learn about Dudley in particular. His use of movement and normal moves seemed solid overall, with a couple of exceptions. The f+HP to super was impressive but he was a bit too fond of Dud's low jabs, among other things. Learning how to hit confirm effectively would help him out a lot too. If I ever have the werewithal to put together a vid of my own gameplay I'd like to think that I could do better. The Ryu player on the other hand was very impressive and deserved a more skillful opponent.
Title: Re: The YouTube Thread, proper
Post by: Regdren on October 09, 2006, 08:24:21 pm
Now, I've talked a lot about how much I like Dudley as a character in SF3:3S and how he should be played. However, there aren't many good Dudley players on YouTube. Here's one.

I particularly like how well he stands up to Genei-Jin. Most players just collapse when Yun activates SA III but this guys fights back pretty well, I think. The only thing I don't like is that he tries to stick Machine Gun Blow in some of his juggles. From the looks of what he tried, it probably worked better in training mode.

Edit: Necro doesn't get enough respect.

Wow Tetsaru, that's awesome! I didn't know it had it in you!

Thanks!  I was surprised to see my band on Youtube, but our director said that someone had posted our performance there.  Hopefully I'll be able to see some more of my band, or even the drumline, there in the future.

I was REALLY hoping that someone had gotten some coverage of the last football game between us and University of Memphis - it was an AWESOME game.  Our team was in a bad situation:  we were down by 3 points, and we had less than a minute or so on our last offensive run, so the team was having to make hasty plays to try to run the ball.  The last play of the game we had 6 seconds left, and we where nowhere near the endzone.  So, in desperation, our quarterback throws a HUGE 60+ yard "Hail Mary" towards the goal, and a huge group of receivers from both teams jumps up to try to catch it - all you could see was a bunch of arms go up.  After the refs reviewed the play, it turned out that we had actually caught it - touchdown ASU!  Simply AMAZING.  I'll have to check ESPN or ask some of my friends if they saw any footage of it...

Sorry if I got off-topic there - I guess being a band nerd also slowly converts you into a die-hard football lover too, at least for your home team anyway.  =3

Kou is too wussy for a next-gen system. He'd probably buy a Tiger Handheld game instead.

Neither.

Be Attitude for Gains!

No Refuge! Incoming: DANMAKU HELL!!!
Danmaku=curtain fire; aka manic or bullet hell

[it might be just be me, but these appear to be harder than Ikaruga or Radiant Silvergun; then again, Treasure's treasured shmups don't give mass-bullet-deleting bombs]

(this part is rumored to be the hardest danmaku sequence ever made; gotta admit, the arrogant/bitch woman laugh really fits)

Japanese lesson:
億千万 = the number 1 followed by 15 zeroes; ie, a million billion.

*gets out can of semi-useful, mostly useless facts*

A follow-up lesson on the big number system:

million = 10^6

billion = 10^9

trillion = 10^12

quadrillion = 10^15

therefore, one million billion is one quadrillion (10^6 x 10^9 = 10^15)

The only thing I can imagine to improve this is some kind of lightning effect in the background that reveals a previously unseeable Robo in the back (or some of the lights brightening the back-parts of the stage at least). Choice times would be when the camera zooms off Isao Sasaki at 1:45, and zooms up to him at 1:42 with the camera zoomed right at the head of the Robo after that.

That video just made me watch all the available episodes of Gurren Lagann (9).  Aside from the sometimes horrible subtitling (I got the AiA I-Z version, which I thought was the only available ones at this moment), it's shaping up to be an awesome series.  Couldn't stop watching, and I have a habit of waiting until something has released close to 80% of all the episodes before starting into it :P

I'v watched up until Episode 10, and have yet to get the subbed one of 11, but Episode 9 and 10 might have SImon acting emo-esque and moping around, but Episode 11 is pure fucking bad-assery, with Simon finally transforming to GARlock

I'v ben using the Nyoron subs, since the site i get my anime from only has those

Famicoms and some Super Famicoms are notorious for survivability.  My N64 is also quite sturdy.  I've stepped on it quite a few times.  Once even kicked it across the floor.  And I'm a fat son of a bitch, so you know when i step on something it oughta break.

I recall reading in Nintendo Power magazines, in the reader letters section way back, stories about NES's being thrown out of four story buildings and barely being dented.  And NES's left inside houses when the house burns down, then blowing off the Mario 3 cartridge and sticking it in and it working perfectly other than a funny noise before the coin appears on-screen.

Or some such.

I'm paraphasing here; and badly.  My memory is crap.

Meanwhile I accidentally tap my PS2 and the cd holder and laser lense are immediately fucked out of alignment -_-

Wow.  Very close indeed.  I can definately see Sogna getting inspiration from the Denjiman logo, but they didn't copy it exactly.  Its got the 3d effect and the 45 degree angles just right, but I think if they really wanted to copy the Denjiman style, they would have included a very distinctive jagged mark on the upper right of the kanjis (circled).  Also, the Bravan form puts the semi voiced mark (look like double quotes in English) so far on the right its on top of the re after bu, and hangs over the n after ba; Denjiman's logo doesn't do that.

It's still damned interesting though so I'm going to file this away under "Obscure VIPER Trivia".  After I've killed everyone that's read these last three posts.

Intro to the best RTS I've ever played

TOTALLY BLASPHEMOUS LINE ALERT!!!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Total Annihilation
Released on 1997 by the now defunct Cavedog. Spiritual prequal to Supreme Commander.
[trivia1: TA was released one year before Starcraft, and yet a lot of people call TA a Starcraft-wannabe]
[trivia2: Music by Jeremy Soule. Totally. Epic. Music. And that's a given, but it also fits the style and scale of the game.]

What the hell is so blasphemous about saying TA >>>>>>>>>>> SC?

Starcraft was fucking crap.  Okay, it was a decent RTT.  Decent.

Total Annihilation, on the other hand.  Is amazing.  Always has been amazing.  I THOUGHT THIS WAS COMMON KNOWLEDGE BY NOW ARE YOU SAYING PEOPLE STILL HAVEN'T COME TO TERMS WITH THIS UNIVERSAL TRUTH!?

Anyways SupCom, the spiritual successor to TA... not as good as TA, but not bad.  It needs a lot of rebalancing and I think GPG are still reworking the game balance.

doesn't matter though, all I need is me TA.  Playing a game offline right now actualy, just alt+tabbed to look at the boards.  TIME FOR BIG BERTHA SPAM

What the hell is so blasphemous about saying TA >>>>>>>>>>> SC?

It's more along the lines for people that think SC is the greatest RTS of all time and that've (probably) never played/heard of TA before. Thus, to those people, someone saying TA>SC would be blasphemous. Example: I remember reading the posts of this one CnC chauvanist, saying CnC beat all other RTS's on the market and even sparked a few flame wars in the process (how someone thinks CnC is the best RTS is beyond me; maybe when it first came out yes, but now...)

Quote
I THOUGHT THIS WAS COMMON KNOWLEDGE BY NOW ARE YOU SAYING PEOPLE STILL HAVEN'T COME TO TERMS WITH THIS UNIVERSAL TRUTH!?

Yes.

Proof: If TA got the proper advertisement/recognition when it was released ten years ago and became more widely known in the gaming community, TA would've swept the market clean of RTS's for at least a year. Instead of having millions of Starcraft fanatics worldwide, we'd have millions of TA fanatics. The modding community for TA would've exploded, with a freaking market full of mods that consist of everything from alternate races to ultimate weapons of mass destruction (not nukes; units like the Krogoth, Karganeth and Cyberoth designed to strike phear in the hearts of your enemies) and battlerooms around the clock. Hell, there probably would've been a team of ultimate daredevil modders that, after 5 years of demonic pacts, heavenly miracles, and thousands of wars, broken the unit and weapon ID caps and made stable versions of them [unit/weapons ID's are different than units; the engine can only support so many unit ID's before crashing due to limits; this effectively means there could be several different races at once with hundreds upon hundreds of units per race with custom weapons per unit] and resulted in a gigantic evolution in TA.

huh?  are we talking about the same game?  have you seen the TA community in its f ullest? ^^

and I'm not just talking about Spring... though it seems like lately with SupCom and Spring all the new TA stuff iscoming out solely on spring =/

I mean I like what clan Sy has done with the 3d engine... but.... nothing beats classic TA.  the style is just amazing for something that doesn't even need a graphics card.
I get the feeling you've never heard of tauniverse or file universe or some of the old unit dbs (though in the past few years it's getting harder and harder to find unit db's =/) but... at least for half a decade, TA had a thriving community.  still does.  well except for Spring and SupCom taken a lot of attention, as I've said...

*shrug* maybe I'm just not understanding your point
i mean sure the community never got as big as blizzard but hey it's not like there's a lot of depth to blizzard games, that's now how they got where they are.  heh.

No, that one was the Black Getter. It's like the normal Getter 1, except in a black color and without the ability to switch to the Getter 2 and 3 forms.

It's from the OVA Shin Getter Robo:Armageddon

Star Light Angel. Shoujo story with suger and fluff levels reaching critical mass.

Deprive. Standard android-style action.

Tale of Two Robots. Meet the prototype Super Robos made in the late 19th century. Sure a long ways since then...

See also: the most horrible dubbing you have ever heard...done on purpose, jabbing at the bad dubbing at the old Kung-fu films [Ok, maybe not THE most horrible, since it's hard to compete with H-anime dubbing.]

...

And I'm STILL debating whether that's funny or sad (my sadistic side is saying funny and my compassionate side is saying sad). Kinda leaning more to the sadistic side, cause I like keeping my compassionate side under lock, key and bondage outfit.

Anyhow, follow up: the famous Wipe Club with Dives leading. Why famous?

This.

Once again the YouTube thread proves that while it's just another +1 thread it at least has some notable potential.

I wish they would make a Mario Paint for the Wii.  I mean come on.

Also - those Mike Bison music videos are awesome.

I presume most of you have seen the 1980 classic "Blues Brothers" with John Belushi and Dan Akroyd.
Well, here's the world of Blues Brothers from a new point of view.
My big brother Jontte stars as Elwood in this. I take my hat off for his great performance.
NOTE: Most of the language is in finnish, but some classic lines are introduced.

oh my god watching the otaku in japan just makes me want to cry... can only watch the first clip; the other two... no, i just can't
Watching the third one made me cry.  I thought it was hilarious that even Japan sees some US anime fans as unusual(Or at least, that was the spin that this particular broadcast used.)  I guess that if you're in your 40s and are singing theme songs to children's shows it doesn't matter what side of the pacific you're on: You're still going to be looked at as some kind of weirdo.

Ah, about the third one, Otaku no Video(Not to be confused with the awesome Japanese anime by Gainax.)  When one of the people on there said that 'anime fans compete to become the superlative otaku' it made me realize something.  I couldn't help but notice that computer users do this too.  All in all 'competing to become the superlative otaku' kind of feels like 'competing to be the biggest loser' or 'competing to be the most pathetic' since I don't see myself respecting someone who has the entire special edition DVD boxed set of Record of Lodoss War any more than your average Joe. :o

Person: "I've built the most powerful computer ever!  It's got 10 gigabytes of DDR8 RAM, 600 tetrabyte hard drives, and a quadruple core processor!"
HG: "Yeah?  What do you use it for?"
Person: "..."
HG: "..."
Person: "Internet Explorer and sometimes I'll watch videos on there..."
Ruri: "You're an idiot."
HG: "Thanks Ruri.  I was going to say that, but didn't want to be impolite."

I've heard of it, and have issue 1 of the manga.  I'm not denying it's a great series.

I'm just not giving owners of the special edition box set special treatment.

But yeah, what's badass about it?  That's right.  I'm urging you to hijack this thread with elaboration on why people should watch Lodoss War for more than Deedlit and Pirotase.  I couldn't possibly understand because I've only read the first few chapters of the manga.

All the characters are indeed awesome.  I truly wept when the dorf warrior Ghim died.  And I'm always the dorf-racist making fun of all the dorty dorf characters in DnD games.  Haha take that dorfs!... but not Ghim ;_;

It was also sad when that vile Karla possessed poor misunderstood Woodchuck.  It's a good thing she finally gets sealed away in the TV series.  I still don't know what happened to poor Woodchuck ;__;

WAS IT NOT BAD ENOUGH TO HAVE GHIM DIE!?  *sob*

Re: Wario Codec conversation.

I remember a while back someone made a particularly large fuss over the fact that Wario eats garlic. Apparently, the dude felt that it was completely and totally racist towards Italians. And then he proceeded to go on about Mario being the most racist character ever made and my brain seized up and uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. But it was pretty funny, though, because he was completely and totally fucking earnest in his outrage.

Oh yeah and the conversation about Luigi is totally rad. Gosh this game is great.

Yeah, playing fast with a ton of effects makes you really awesome.

DragonForce was a nice fad for about a week. I own the whole discography, and I can play that song. Not on Guitar Hero, but on a real guitar. It literally took me a week to learn that song.

Also, drumming is simplistic speed drumming, lets see Mackintosh play a different kind of beat! OH WAIT HE CANT BECAUSE HES BEEN PLAYING THOSE SAME BEATS SINCE HE WAS IN BAL SAGOTH!

Fuck that shit. Have some real music.

I'm planning on finishing part 2 this week, and will be including a bonus reel of my 6-2 death extravaganza. Unless by some act of God I get it on the first try.

I'll be doing a review of Quest for Glory I : So You Want to Be A Hero, for the PC soon as well, and probably going to do a music video for my album eventually.

The piece is a T8 90mm anti-tank gun, and the owner pays a special "destructive equipment" tax on it amounting to about an extra $200 a year.

Anybody know when YouTube is going to update their JavaScript to support Adobe Flash Player 10?  It's driving me nuts that arguably the biggest user of Flash software still hasn't adapted after 2+ weeks.

In the meantime, enjoy something from their competitor:

Title: Re: The YouTube Thread, proper
Post by: JG on March 21, 2009, 08:10:04 am
No its in their Javascript.  It should be a singular fix.

The problem stems from a typical CompSci problem - comparing strings against comparing numbers.  Now that Flash is at version 10, its being treated as lower version number than 9 in poorly written scripts like the one in use at YouTube.

"10" < "9"

but

10 > 9

So the dumbasses just need to update their script to do parseInt().  It amazes me that they still haven't as their site is absolutely non-functional with out it.

What's worse is, if you don't have Flash at all (common for new PCs) or have a much older version, YouTube directs you to the Adobe download site... which of course installs version 10. *shakes head*

I'd like to but I run Windows in Japanese preferred language mode so games work right every time.  The only places that backfire doing this are Apple's software updater (which sucks for many worse reasons) and on YouTube's site.  YouTube has a language selector at the top of the screen but it doesn't seem to work (indicating more Javascript problems.)   So I haven't found the "Help / Contact Us" link yet.

speaking about battery powered devices...
hairs a joke a found on the enternet a few weeks ago.
-----------------------

Pocket Tazer Stun Gun, a great gift for the wife. A guy who purchased his lovely wife a pocket Tazer for their anniversary submitted this:

Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for a
little something extra for my wife Julie. What I came across was a 100,000-volt, pocket/purse- sized tazer. The effects of the tazer were supposed to be short lived, with no long-term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety....??

WAY TOO COOL! Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home. I loaded two AAA batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button. Nothing! I was disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed the button and pressed it against a metal surface at the same time; I'd get the blue arc of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs.

AWESOME!!!

Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Julie what that burn spot is on the face of her microwave.

Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only two triple-A batteries, right? There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target. I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second) and thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised. Am I wrong?

So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and tazer in another. The directions said that a one-second burst would shock and disorient your assailant; a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; a three-second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water.
Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries.

All the while I'm looking at this little device measuring about 5" long, less than 3/4 inch in circumference; pretty cute really and (loaded with two itsy, bitsy triple-A batteries) thinking to myself, 'no possible way!' What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my best.. .?

I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side as to say, 'don't do it *******,' reasoning that a one second burst from such a tiny little ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad. I decided to give myself a one second burst just for heck of it. I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and . .HOLY MOTHER OF GOD . . WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION . . . WHAT THE HELL!!!

I'm pretty sure Jessie Ventura ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner, then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and
over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs? The cat was making meowing sounds I had never heard before, clinging to a picture frame hanging above the fireplace, obviously in an attempt to avoid getting slammed by my body flopping all over the living room.

Note: If you ever feel compelled to 'mug' yourself with a tazer, one note of caution: there is no such thing as a one second burst when you zap yourself!
You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor.. A three second burst would be considered conservative?

IT HURT LIKE HELL!!!

A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed
the landscape. My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace.
The recliner was upside down and about 8 feet or so from where it originally was. My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. My face
felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs. I had no control over the drooling. Apparently I pooped on myself, but was too numb to know for sure, and my sense of smell was gone. I saw a faint smoke cloud above my head which I believe came from my hair. I'm still looking for my nuts and I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return!

P.s... My wife, can't stop laughing about my experience, loved the gift, and now regularly threatens me with it!

Well it all depends on what type of headphones they are.  What if they are for interstellar communications?  I'm sure those require some beefy power.
Title: Re: The YouTube Thread, proper
Post by: JG on September 12, 2009, 05:18:55 pm
See, that's the problem with headphones.  More often than not, they're plugged into the reciever, not stand alone. While the receiver could be dangerous to drop in the tub, the headphones wouldn't do a thing but fizzle, flood, and then sink.

And I don't know where you come from but my interstellar communicator streams audio directly into my mind. I don't need any fancy headwear apparatus.

Looks like Youtube wiped out the video but you're absolutely right.  And remember how the governator uses the bolt to punch through that dude's neck? Awesome.

All i can remember about Total Recall was punching midgets in the NES game.

I really should rewatch the movie again one of these days.

Damn near wrecked the pad though. Becuase it had to be tilted over about 4-5 degrees to avoid collision with the tower, exhaust created considerable damage.  Caused two toxic chemical leaks, destroyed both elevators, severed communication lines to control, melted the megaphone system, and damaged the hinges on the rotating column. It's going to cost alot of money to repair 39B now.

Such is the way of things with experimental rockets.  I'm really hoping they do more.

Not anytime soon.

Next Ares launch (I-Y) isn't scheduled until March 2014. There's no need to test the upper stages of the rocket until the electrical and command interface for the Orion CM is finalized in 2013. To shoot off another Ares I before then wouldn't prove anything.

And NASA can't construct any Ares V's until the Shuttle is retired. The company that builds the external fuel tanks for the shuttle would have to retool to build the fuel tanks for Ares Vs. Plus the pads need to be reconfigured for Ares V's height. The platforms and crawlers need to be upgraded too but those won't take as much time and aren't holding back the schedule. The V-Y launch isn't scheduled until 2018.

Very ho-hum over the next few years.

All very true.  Hopefully NASA will get more funding soon so they can accelerate their program.

That's classic - he totally gets it.

Moon-Mars-and-Beyond never would have been cut if we had a real science advisor for President Obama, instead of an environmental policy expert (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Holdren).  Not that I have anything against environmentalists, but they are almost entirely against the space program due to how much water vapor is added to the upper atmosphere during a rocket launch.

W's advisor at least had the right idea, he just couldn't convince his boss to put any money into it.
