I came across this amazing tool for enhancing gifs. You can also save it as single frames, and use a separate tool to upscale.

It had a few problems but here is how I got around artifacts.

Method 1

1. Use X2
2. Once it is saved, take that saved file and X2 it again

Method 2

Save the gif as a MP4 video

Convert to gif and save.

Re-apply X2/X4/X6 etc... and artifacts will almost always be gone

Sorry, must separate posts due to file size. Can add more AI frames to it, but too much and it starts to mess up. This is also limited to fit the forum, have a better version.

I tried this out on one of my own gifs which have very barebones frames.
It automatically fills in frames to make the animation drastically improved.
