I whole hardedly agree with you on this. Final Fantasy 6, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, and Crono Trigger... They just don't make them like they used too. This is pretty much the reason I fell maddly in love with DQ8. Old school game with current technology. I really hope that with DQ8's success, more games like this will be released in NA.
PS1 did have a few sleeper rpgs that were rather good, but considering I can't remember the name of most of them goes to show you. Grandia and Star Ocean ring a bell tho. Yeah, I waited a really long time for a game like DQ8 to reignite my passion for RPGs.
