Title: VIPER Collection Photos
Post by: JG on November 23, 2007, 04:28:53 pm
As if Black Friday doesn't get any better, I got my M3 package in from Japan today, too.  When I opened it up I was stunned to see how huge the box was (and how this might have hurt sales.)  In order to properly tell the story to the rest of you, I took a picture of all my VIPER stuff together.

Row 1: All four VIPER Illustrations artbooks, both Sogna Illustrations art books.
Row 2: GTB art book, RSR art book, F40 Fan Book, Evolution 1 (the other three are absurdly rare), all five V series doujinshi
Row 3: BTR (with CD single), Museum, F50 Limited Edition (with the Bravan CD soundtrack, poster, and paper mask), M1, M5 (including the deck of cards), M3 3.2 (with figurines)
Row 4: V6 (original Windows version), V8 (Classic Collection version), V10 (original Windows version), Island 1 & 3, VIPER Music Collection 1
Row 5: GTB demo, GT1 demo, Paradice demo, F50 demo

So what makes that M3 box so big?  A pair of 6 inch tall Kaoru and Rika figurines.

While I was at it I took a couple of other pictures...

Such as doujinshi made of GUNYAROCK and WIN:

I also got this in with my M3 today.  It came pretty cheap but I expected it to have some H factor.  It doesn't, and worse, its all black and white except the first page or two, the jacket and a nonremovable foldout poster of the cover.  Discounting the always fantastic Kimura character designs, I'm not a big fan of GaoGaiGar but I know alot of you are.  I might be interested in selling or auctioning this off.  PM me if you're interested. 182 pages, A4 sized; poster is A5.  If there's interest I'll scan a page or two for examples.

Just thought I'd post something that bothered me a lil bit, well not really bothered me, but something that seemed a lil off
recently bought the Viper RSR cd-rom boxset, and came with an art cell

The one on the left, is a screenshot of a frame from the game
The one on the right, is the cell art that came with the boxset.
The lighting from cell art is coming thru the window, while the frame the light is coming from the orb.

JG00 mine was Frame 744.

Come back to us when it's one of those 3d boob mouse pads.  Then again if it's Cala it'd probably lift your arm completely off the table and you'd be unable to use the mouse at all.

The Viper GT1 Album Disk

Why has this never shown up as an ISO anywhere?!  Heads will roll I tell you.

Given the packaging for it, it looks like it might have been a demo disc you could pick up at game stores.  The GTB, GT1, and Paradice Demo I own (see bottom of this picture (http://www.jonathandgriffith.com/images/forum/viper_collection/20071123.jpg)) all have the same style of packaging: a paperboard booklet that flips open at the top, with the inside folded into a sleeve glued on one side, while the other side has a tab that folds down so the CD doesn't fall, with a small cutout on the back right-hand side so you can tell if a CD is in the booklet or not.

Still, I wants.

You're absolutely right.  I tried it and it wanted me to put in an MS-DOS system disk to do the install.  Hory clap - I haven't seen one of those in 7 or 8 years.

So I used EditDisk to copy all the files to a 5MB bootable hard drive image instead.  Click here (http://www.jonathandgriffith.com/files/forum/Guyna-rock2.zip) to download.  The AUTOEXEC.BAT file is set to start the game automatically.

This calls for a new VIPER Thumbnail Theater thread.  Give me a day to mull over the possibilities and check back tomorrow evening.

Ugh.  I'm still missing six. (Evo 2-4 and all three of those LTDs)
Envy overwhelms me to the point of nearly strangling Guest.
But then I remember I whup you badly in the game collection and don't feel so hostile to the lurkers.

Viper Evolution 3, Its damn near impossible to find. >:(  GRRRR...\
It must be exceedingly rare.  It took me two years of off-and-on again Google searching just to find a single picture of it, which, as far as I know it to be, has this picture (http://www.hyperguy.net/h_gallery/displayimage.php?album=79&pos=1) of Cala on the cover.  Which brings up a question: Is that really the front cover of Evolution-II?  All the other pictures I've seen of it have Akira (the "beach babe" (http://www.hyperguy.net/h_gallery/displayimage.php?album=4&pos=66) cover.)  I can't be sure entirely sure from your picture but I think you might have photoed the back by mistake since it looks like the binding might be on the left and the leafs on the right, which is proper for English but backwards for most Japanese books. (The 10th Anniversery Fan Book is in English order though, as are all the game manuals and the Sogna Information periodicals, so its not unheard of for Sogna to do it.)

I got my copy of GT1 today and can confirm the Album Disk is something you had to send off for.  Mail in the bottom of this card and Sogna sends you the Album Disk a couple of weeks later.  I'm quite sure I can't use it now. :/

There doesn't seem to be any additional charge involved.

Something else that comes in the GT1 package:

The VIPER-GTB novelization?  Now what the hell happened to THIS?  They set a price, claim it'll be out by end of year, and even go so far as publishing advertisement flyers for it and including them in their games, but never get around to actually publishing the thing?  Very odd.

Also curious why we see V16-style Saki in this picture instead off GTB style.  At no time were Saki and Makoto employed at Anne Mitters at the same time (unless there was going to be a backstory in the novel that Sogna never told us), and this is the only image I know of with both of them in waitress outfits at the same time.

Satan has such a bad rep though, last time he shipped my succubus to 10 different places before he got the address right. Srsly. Try a different power. Satan's gone soft.

Note: the succubus was really really confused by the time she got to my house. Couldn't remember where she came from or anything. After she hit her head on the doorway while trying to FLY through the HOUSE because she's DUMB, she couldn't remember her own name.

Also she only speaks in Haiku.

Yet another reason why Satan isn't all that great. You know how annoying it is to talk dirty in haiku?

JG, how much would you say you must've spent on your whole Viper collection now?

I'd say somewhere between $900 and $1,200.  I'm not keeping a running total to know exactly how much.  Sounds like a lot I know but I've been at it so long now it works out to only $30 or $40 a month - that's pocket money to me.  But I haven't bought much this year as there's few things I'm still in the market for (CTR, Lingerie Violet, Evo 2-4, LTD3, and some of the audio books and novels.)

Neato frame set you got there, too.

2 (something) Art 2 ????

Do you really have it? or do you only have the image?
I don't recognize the scene, but it looks like it's part of the julietta and diablo Hscene
it doesn't seem to have a scene numbering on it.
Title: Re: VIPER Collection Photos
Post by: Sleepy_we on July 27, 2008, 11:07:05 pm
by "have it" i mean have the image in my possession.

the scene it self was not in RSR, thats for sure. I found this before RSR was even released (before the first published release date, before it got pushed back for so long).

I believe the "cell" (not "really" a cell i guess)  it self was given to a friend of one of the artists, who in turn scanned it and put it on his site. the guy also had a pre release of the game to preview on his site. the site has been lost over the years of bookmarks :/ probley not around anymore anyway.

The image just raises the question what else got cut. if there is this image that has to be others imo.
Title: Re: VIPER Collection Photos
Post by: 黒い灯影 on July 27, 2008, 11:54:58 pm
yeah, theres alot of stuff thats been cut from RSR,
every viper frame has a scene number on it(..well least the ones that were used in a game)
you can see that they skipped some numbers and letters in RSR, if you look at the ANM files in RSR's
Title: Re: VIPER Collection Photos
Post by: Sleepy_we on July 28, 2008, 12:15:41 am
ya, but where is this ones number? i doubt they would go to the trouble of drawing it with notes, without having some number in mind. and those missing numbers add up to be a LOT. if they drew this one without a number.. where are the concepts for the missing no# ? :P
Title: Re: VIPER Collection Photos

2 (something) Art 2 ????

As best I can tell the kanji you seek is 枚, which indicates a counter for number of sheets.
I've tried as hard as I can but can't make out the kanji on the second line.
But in conjunction with the upside down 1->4 near the back of her head and shoulderblade I think the whole bit means the animation is "2 frames forward and 2 frames back" - but I could be very wrong.  It might be indicating that the nearby sweat droplet only appears for 2 frames and not the other two.

I've had this image for a couple of years.  And its the only one form RSR that I've ever come across.

Alright, i'll scan the rest of them and post them up tomorrow.
they are just sketches, no game, :(  I aquired them quite a while ago, and I couldn't get scanned because my computer was broken, then I fixed it, scanned two pages (and then it just broke again yesterday...GRRRRR!!!! (i think i may have pinned it down to a failing faulty power supply, doesn't give enough power to run all my harddrives plugged in anymore, need more WATTAGE!!!!)

But i'll scan them using my laptop tonight, i counted 16 yesterday.

You know, there's not a noncorrupt ISO of Gunyarock on the web.

Is there any chance you could share an ISO of that? O-o

I've got Gunyarock, too ya know.

Envious of that V10 RS though.  You didn't tell me you'd got that 黒い灯影.  Think you can give me a scan of (at least) that package's front side?  The thumbnail on SDM is from a source image that's only 171x237 pixels with a lot of image artifacts. A good clean image would make a better thumbnail.

I've also always been curious what's on the spine and back side of that classic collection box...

Remember that one time I had Viper LTD 4 and had had it for like 8 months and just casually told you that I did and how you felt at the time?

Yeah, that's how I feel now. O_o

No problem, i'm uploading those Viper M1 sketches right now, and a re-scan of AnimajongX too,
I just bought a new multi-purpose printer, that you can stack pages and scans them automatically one at a time,
so no more repeats. still can't fit in those framesets thou, which kinda sucks.

What the hell format are these zip files in?  I've tried three different decoders and none of them can read the file.  (Winzip, Winrar, and Peazip)

Sogna Store double-sided shopping bag (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/gallery/collections/jg/bag.jpg)
That thing leaning in the middle is a 12"/30cm ruler to give a sense of scale.

I have some oddities from Japan, too.  Nothing eidble though (and some would argue if SoyJoy is.)
Any of these are for sale or trade, as they were throw-ins by the seller or extraneous pieces of lots.  If something catches your eye in these sets, let me know.  Pay for shipping and you can have it (except one.)
Promos (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/gallery/collections/jg/extra1.jpg), lots of posters, a One Piece order form of some kind.  I don't recognize most of these animes or games.  But I can tell that Hyperguy is drooling over the Love Fetish poster.  This is the only one that I'll want something back for giving it up.
Software (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/gallery/collections/jg/extra2.jpg), lots of demos and audio-only discs. I don't recognize any of them.

So, who has the greater collection?

Oh, and I have Typing VIPER on the way, too.

I got it from the Japan auctions site,
yeah I was surprised it was available from japan also,
Very expensive though, cost me over $200 just to get it. It was quite the bidding war.
but it was fun, these bidding wars can give one quite a rush.

Just received some new additions also, the Viper Digital Illustrations R G and B, and the Viper F40 novel.

New stuff.  This makes 76 unique Sogna- & VIPER-related items (http://www.jonathandgriffith.com/files/forum/vipercollection.txt) for me.

(http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/gallery/collections/jg/new20090608_small.jpg) (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/gallery/collections/jg/new20090608_large.jpg)
VIPER-CTR (Windows)
Miyabi (Hime Club)
Sontoku (Maruarai)*
Typing VIPER
VIPER-GTS OVA (the uncensored Region 1 version)
PIPER GTS (Studio Huan)
V-MAX (J's Style)

* This is actually the second copy of Sontoku I've got my hands on.  It was cheap and added almost nothing to the shipping cost, so this copy was purchased solely for resale states-side.  PM me if you're interested in purchasing this fine RSR doujin.  It's practially flawless, some minor dents in the white cover, barely noticable except in the right light and at the right angle.  If it wasn't pure white you probably couldn't even tell they were there.  My other copy has the same imperfections so I'd qualify this as "in as good of condition as possible."

Gokuraku VIPER Lanjerie Violet
Oversized Asuka Mouse pad
Oversized GTB Mouse Pad (says Not for Sale, but I wonder what this was packaged with to make it so... Any ideas, 黒い灯影?)
VIPER Anniversary Coffee Mug (the one where Asuk and Miki are giving the peace sign) The box has some cute art on it (http://www.jonathandgriffith.com/images/forum/coffee_mug_art.jpg)
1995 Calendar (I had no idea how tiny it is!)
Dual-sided M1/Guynarock deskmat.
Guruguru Sentou by NARUHO Dou
Kimutaka 3 by Takahiro Kimura - all the sketches and character designs of one of my favorite works of his, ON AIR
Megablade, illustrated by Takahiro Kimura (I was a fan of his before VIPER, and being a fan led me to V16, which led me to becoming a VIPER fan)

(http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/6381/viperjuly2009.th.jpg) (http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/6381/viperjuly2009.jpg)

-Both versions of Viper V16 for PC98, one is 3.5' disk, the other is 5' disk.
-Viper R, G, B
-Viper Limited
-Viper RSR boxset - Unopened, Factory wrapped!
-Viper RSR demodisk
-Viper F40 novel
And a whole bunch of demo disks on the side, of various hentai games.

As for your GTB mousepad, probably a second-hand store, or something, I've received items that looked like they were wrapped, like new almost.
but you could tell they were used, i.e. crack in the case, obi missing..etc

Ah! that's where that VIPER Lanjerie Violet went... hah. from Yahoo Japan Auctions, eh?
Well you gotta let me know when there's another Violet version floating around on the Japan auctions.

Awesome stuff. Would love to have the PC98 V16s. I can tell we may compete over those PC98 copies of GTS and V10 and the X68000 copy of V6 thats on there now.  We may need to come to some agreement so we don't bid against other and keep our costs low.  Personally I'd like the X68k V6 Turbo the most of those three, so if you're wild about obtaining the original V10 to go with your RS copy then maybe we can agree to step aside for each other? (And don't you already have a PC98 GTS, anyway?)

As always, Sogna Digital Museum can use some information from your collection:
* The JAN codes, number of diskettes, and any additional items beyond manual, registration card and diskettes in each V16 version
* Confirmation on F40 Novel Edition info (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/products/novels/f40.html).  Pretty sure I have ISBN, price, and page count right, but I definately need a check on the paper size.  Looks like same size as other novels so I should have it right.
* Definately need an ISO of that RSR demo disk.  (MDS or CCD formats preferred since they don't lose subchannel data but I'll take any other format.) Willing to trade a disc image of Paradice, F50, GTB, or GT1 demos for it. (Any other demos you have? Not counting the ones on the Typing CD...)

And dude, you've gotta do something about your list at the now defunct http://sogna.biz/ViperCollection.html (http://sogna.biz/ViperCollection.html) so I can check what you have access to both for information gathering and to notify you when i see things I have that you don't.

Yeah, I'll try to do something with my list, so both you and I know what I have.
and I agree with your deplomatic solution of not competing with one another, keeps prices down.

AS for the other things. I'll get back to you soon...

I tell ya, days that new VIPER stuff comes in from Japan are better than Christmas.

What do we have here:

This makes my previous version of V8 Classic Collection (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/images/forsale/jg_v8cc_0908.jpg) expendable and it will soon go on Sogna Digital Museum's For Sale page (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/forsale.html). I also got cheap, but complete second copies of VIPER-M3 3.2 (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/images/forsale/jg_m3_0908.jpg) and VIPER Digital Illustrations 1 (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/images/forsale/jg_vdi1_0908.jpg) in today's set, so they'll be going on sale, too. If any of you are interested in these you can private message me now before they get listed on SDM.

As an aside, I must confess that I had expected telecas to be a little more sturdy. These are my first and they are surprisingly flexible, much thinner and flimsier than a credit card. (About as thick as a sheet of 20lb paper, but made of plastic so it doesn't tear as easily.)

Neato.  I don't quite understand why Cells were used for Viper.  Wasn't everything done digitally?

These cells were used for promotional reasons... like in magazines, books..etc
The games themselves were done in digitally,
if they used the materials from the game then it would appear pixellated on paper.

The games were done partially by hand. An ink or pencil drawing is developed, which is input to a computer by either a primitive scanner or plotter, producing a low color (probably just 2) image.  The colors are then added digitally, usually in great big fill patterns.

It would take much, much too long to develop a game entirely digitally.  This method is faster, produces better quality, and still doesn't show signs of pixelation unless it was intended to create the impression of more color depth.  Sogna didin't pixelate becuase it would greatly increase the size of thier ANM files, but most other companies did.

And now, the motherlode. This actually came as four different shipments over the course of the last 2 or 3 weeks, but I'm taking photos of it as if it were a single shipment. In fact it's so much stuff I couldn't get it all into one picture. (This is all the unique stuff - new duplicates I'm putting up for sale aren't in any of these pictures.)

(http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/gallery/collections/jg/new_20090910_game_small.jpg) (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/gallery/collections/jg/new_20090910_game_large.jpg)
HORY CLAP!!  That's alot of PC98 and FM-TOWNS games (and an X68000 one in there too.)
From left-to-right, top-to-bottom, that's Animahjong V3 (3.5"), Animahjong X (5"), Animahjong X Perfect File (5"), VIPER-V6 (3.5"), VIPER-V6 RS (3.5" and 5"), VIPER-V6 Turbo (X68000), VIPER-V6 Turbo RS (FM-TOWNS), VIPER-V8 (3.5" and 5"), VIPER-V8 RS (5"), VIPER-V8 Turbo RS (FM-TOWNS), VIPER-V10 RS (3.5" and 5"), VIPER-V10 Turbo RS (FM-TOWNS), VIPER-GTS (3.5" and 5"), VIPER-GTS RS (3.5"), VIPER-V12 (3.5" and 5"), VIPER-V12 (FM-TOWNS), and VIPER-V16 (5" and 3.5")

(http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/gallery/collections/jg/new_20090910_nongame_small.jpg) (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/gallery/collections/jg/new_20090910_nongame_large.jpg)
* Double-sided Sogna store bag. I had the vinyl, now I've got the paper & rope, too.  It's got VIPER-GT1 on the opposite side.
* VIPER-GTS mouse pad
* VIPER-F40 demo
* VIPER-GTB/Osaka Pro-Wrestling fan
* VIPER-V8 Twin Turbo manual (the V6 Turbo came with its own instruction manual plus this one.  I guess a previous owner misplaced this.)
* Sogna Information Vol. 2.  I also got in copies of 3 and 6 but I put them in with their respective games (VIPER-CTR and V16) which were missing them.
* VIPER Evolution III
* A pair of inexpensive VIPER doujinshi - DEAD END and Drastic Mermaid.
* VIPER-GTS OVA DVD Box Set

And becuase you guys would never forgive me if I didn't try it, just this once:

I am not doing this again becuase it was extremely dangerous, due both to the compressive forces on the boxes at the bottom and the teetering effect at the top.  Needless to say, I made it all the way to the top of the 8 foot (2.44 m) ceiling in my office, and still had the anniversary coffee mug left. If I had a taller ceiling (and a step stool) this would reach a fraction of an inch above 100" (2.54 m)

How the hell do you learn something like that?  Is it in one of those many art books you've collected?
Title: Re: VIPER Collection Photos
Post by: JG on September 17, 2009, 09:51:40 pm
I've seen enough game art books to tell that this is how its done.  My Lakers and Harlem Blade books are the best examples as they show pencil drawings, psuedo-colored drawings, and early digital pictures which can be compared to the final game pictures.

So ultimately you're guessing and/or doing a clean-room examination of the input and the output huh?

So no one has explicitly informed you of this but there is enough evidence to support your hypothesis?

Indeed... *ponders*
Title: Re: VIPER Collection Photos
Post by: JG on September 20, 2009, 09:28:22 am
Evidence? You got it.  Why don't you be the judge:

From the Harlem Blade art book. The original hand-colored image is on the right and the game image is on the left. Note that some details, such as the streaks in the mirror reflection, were added digitally but the majority of the image is a perfect reproduction reduced to 16 colors.

And here is the actual game image. Load it into your image editor and you'll see it's 16 colors. (FYI, game was released April 1996.)

Note the level of detail, especially evident in the mirror frame and the translucent parts of Russe's dress. Most of the digital work done was to half-tone areas where shading was needed, not to do the complete drawing or coloring.

Now you tell me. Was this completely digitally reproduced or hard-drawn, scanned in and touched up digitally like I said?

I'd like to know the process behind reproducing those images in 16-bit.

Shame no ones give a flip anymore of doing things the old way.
Title: Re: VIPER Collection Photos
Post by: JG on September 22, 2009, 08:37:19 pm
I beleive you mean 8-bit.  16-bit images don't have a palette, they just downscale the channels to 5 bits for red and blue and 6 for green (human eyes are most sensitive to changes in green which is why it gets the extra bit) or when transparency is needed, 1 bit for alpha and 5 each for the three color channels.

But 8-bit images usually have a palette, which is a lookup table of colors. The colors themselves may be more than 8 bits in color depth.  For example, a bitmap stored as 8-bit can have 256 colors, but those colors may be any in the spectrum, as they're stored as 24 bit colors (3 channels of 8 bits each.)  So the challenge is to get from your true color image (such as one scanned in) to 256 colors (or less) without losing alot of that color depth.

Step 1 is reducing the palette to N colors:
* You could pick N predefined colors.  MS Paint does this and that's why it produces such crappy looking reductions when you save something to GIF. Grayscale also works in this manner but tends to work very well except when N is very small.
* You could pick the N most common colors.  This generally works best when you have large swathes of the same color.
* You could pick the N most differentiating colors, ie the colors most unlike any other colors.  This tends to be the best for reducing true color to a small colors, but the colors chosen may not be colors used in the actual image, or are used very infrequently so some hues may be off.
* Use a combination of most common and most different. It really depends on the image, but at least 75% of the colors should come from the most different algorihtm for best results (unless there's many large areas of different colors, upwards of 100% differenciating works best.) If you're creating several images in an animation, you need to make sure the algorithm takes into account all images in the series or you get minute color changes in one frame to the next.

Step 2 is applying that palette to the image by translating your old colors into new colors.
* You could translate colors in a nearest match algorithm. This is usually how its done as it produces smaller images (due to compression factors) and has better looking large patches but sacrifices some of the "blending" that occurs at edges or over the course of a gradient.
* You could half-tone the area. This looks bad in large areas of the same color, as they adopt the "polkadot" pattern, but does a good job giving the appearence of blending from one color to another. This method doesn't compress as well though as the "polkadots" interfere with runs of solid color. This also works poorly in animations as the half-toning may occur at different spots and may present the "dancing dots" phenomenon.
* Use a combination. Advanced algorithms can locate areas of similar colors for nearest match, and areas of dissimilar colors for half-toning.

Depending on the game, different algorithms from above may be used. But if you want my opinion on how I think they did really old games like Harlem Blade and made them look decent at only 16 colors, was they had a palette of 16 predefined colors consisting of black, white, and 14 colors of various hues of flesh, hair, eyes, lips and a few others that don't fit human features. The original hand-drawn image was purposely colored to match the 16 colors in the palette. They then scanned in this image and applied the palette with an advanced half-toning algorithm. Then they cleaned it up manually.

VIPER games, by comparison, appear to have been reduced to about the 240 most common colors and then translated in a nearest match algorithm.

Yeah, thats the reason I used to use flash for my early work. It made putting two different gifs together look exceptionally clean and seamless. I had planned on still using it for my original animations for CCR, but it was just so difficult for me to trace everything I already drew over using vector tools. I'd rather just digitize my cels.

I know it was two weeks ago, but just got around to finishing up photo-taking and posting the pictures of all the new stuff from Japan:

FOR ME:
* Animahjong X Perfect File 3.5" diskettes (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/gallery/collections/jg/amxpf3.jpg)
* CTR-if doujinshi (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/gallery/collections/jg/doujinshi_ctr-if.jpg) - the best VIPER doujinshi to come out of Comiket 80. And it's 100% Miki, folks.  And I got an extra one for sale, too.
* Strong Girl Cala doujinshisoft (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/gallery/collections/jg/doujinsoft_strong_girl_cala.jpg) - from the artist who brought us the Kemonomichi games
* A new style of Sogna Store bag (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/gallery/collections/jg/bag6.jpg) - probably an earlier version than the others
* Asuka character poster (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/gallery/collections/jg/character_poster_asuka.jpg) - got one of these for sale, too.
* Akira Character poster (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/gallery/collections/jg/character_poster_akira.jpg) - hawt.  Also got one of these for sale as well

If you ever want to sell them. Please let me know.

If you ever want to sell them. Please let me know.
All VIPER items for sale are now listed on the site's For Sale page (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/forsale.html).

I may occasionally list non-VIPER stuff like these Anime posters (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/forum/index.php?topic=3735.0) on the forum though.

Just thought this was funny..
How they spelled Viper RSR at the bottom   :D
One of the magazines I bought from Japan.

How much RSR preview content is in that? I've never seen that particular edition listed in any of my magazine searches for VIPER material (probably due to the misspelling)

I dont know yet.. but just bought a bunch of retro mags, i'll let you know once they come in
There are some magazines that don't advertise Viper content on the front cover, but you can see, on the table of contents,
if you're lucky enough if those pics are even included

Also got this one, that said something about Strength and future of Sogna (or Sonia).. but i will find out when i get it.
The mags I'm buying are from around the years SOGNA was active,
a lot of the mags also don't explicitly say anything on the cover of any Viper content, but i'm hoping to find some when i dig into them.
but here are some that do mention a viper game on the cover

as i also found a community of retro mag enthusiasts who are missing a bunch of japanese retro mags
I'll probably scan them to preserve them in digital format

I have the May 1996 and June 1998 E-login mags. I will have to hunt for the other three now that I know.

August 1997 is the most prominent one as it has the Raika folder out poster. (http://www.sognadigitalmuseum.com/gallery/collections/jg/e-login_1997-08.jpg)
I also have October and December 1997 editions, which also have VIPER content in them.

Honestly it would be a big help for you to maintain a list of the mags you've got that have VIPER content in them so I can seek them out as well. I've already got my mags listed on my collection page (but haven't taken photos of most of them yet)

Interesting page in Tech Gian Oct 1998 - pages ripped from archive.org

Fantastic insight. I have that magazine and forgot about that stuff. Especially how messy P-Warrior's deskspace is ;D

I don't remember noticing it before, but "P-Warrior Car Collection Vol. 4" catches my eye - I've got several other Tech Gian mags and don't recall ever seeing volumes 1-3. (Possibly in July, August, and September 1998 editions, which I don't own.)

you're correct on that,
pages were ripped from archive.org

So the first batch of books came in,
Books on the left, didn't see any Viper content
Books on the right, at least some Viper content in it.

I'll try to scan the pages soon.

How much RSR preview content is in that? I've never seen that particular edition listed in any of my magazine searches for VIPER material (probably due to the misspelling)
there's 3 pages, 4 if you include the ad.
Also has a double sided folded poster of Cala and Iota,
with the other side being the Viper RSR's game cover

My magazine collection is growing, i still have to catalog and check a lot of them for Viper content..
But the Tech Gian magazines were awesome for Viper Content, as it had a lot of interviews or promo content from Sogna

Trying to find when the Maker: The Gathering section stopped including Sogna, but they had it in a lot of issues.

I thought they dumped the Maker: The Gathering section early to mid-2000s. I don't think the 2012 or 2017 mags I have include this section, in favor of more full or double page previews. I think Maker: The Gathering was great for pre- and early-internet, but once all these companies got webpages the magazines couldn't cover any newsworthy items except the previews/reviews.

Still, I appreciate the list and, perhaps someday, can hunt for the same ones.

Okay, I found the range of when they included Sogna in their Maker The Gathering section.
1998 July through to 2001 October.
